This is an opportunity for both clubs to make history by reaching the second qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time. There are a few familiar faces in the Beckenham side so all is set fair. Any replay will take place on Tuesday, kick off Well,7.45pm.itwas a profitable Bank Holiday with our excellent 2-2 draw at Ashford followed by Monday's hard-earned but thoroughly deserved 2-1 win over Haywards Heath lifted us to sixth in the table, and represents one of our bests start to the season at Step 4 level. Our under-18s went out of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday, losing 1-0 to Eastbourne Borough despite a good performance. We are on the roads (well quite a few roads) to Wroxham in the FA Trophy next Saturday. Quite how we're heading to Norfolk at this stage of the competition is anyone's guess! Enjoy the game, and thanks for reading. East Grinstead Town FC is an unincorporated Community Amateur Sports Club.

MANAGER’S NOTES
DREW COONEY
All in all, its been a really good start to the season. Myself, Ian and Sarg planned for the two fixtures last weekend and had a target of four points minimum. We trained well last week and slightly tweaked the line up to suit both opponents as we were carrying a few niggles from the previous week. The lads are buying into the fact we have a good solid squad of 20 players and each one of these players will play a massive part over the course of the whole season. Ian held the fort whilst I was away over the Bank Holiday weekend so big thanks to him and Mike Gardener for their hard Wework.have a great set-up now in the managerial team with everyone playing a critical role in both training and on match days. The lads are very clear in how we want them to play and are starting to understand that we need to approach each session and game with a clear and positive outlook.

We welcome everyone back to the OHOB Community Stadium for the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.

On to today’s opponents Beckenham Town. They have had an impeccable start to the season so we are in for a very tough game. There will be a few familiar faces including Louis and Waldo who I played with under Leigh Dynan so will be good to see them both and we are really looking forward to the challenge. I hope we can progress further and be in the draw for the next round. Once again, on behalf of the staff and squad, I'd like to thank all the fans who attended Ashford away and were at the home game against Haywards Heath. We ask for your continued support for the rest of the season as we look to really kick on again. Goodlucktous!Drew

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to The OHOB Community Stadium for today’s Emirates FA Cup First Round Qualifying tie against Beckenham Town.
GibsonStuartofcourtesyPhoto
I would like to extend a warm welcome to the travelling players, management, officials and supporters from Beckenham Town on what for most will be their first ever visit to East Court. I trust you enjoy your brief stay and our hospitality. A special welcome as well to today’s referee Chris Williams and his assistants Declan Wyatt and Martyn Milligan.
CHAIRMAN’S NOTES EastGrinsteadTownFC @egtfcwaspswww.egtfc.co.uk 7
The winners of this First Round Qualifying tie will go into the draw for the Second Round Qualifying to be played in a fortnight on Saturday 17th September. If today’s match is level after 90 minutes, there will be a replay next Tuesday at Beckenham Town with a 7.45pm kick off which would then be played to a conclusion with extra time and penalties if required. Jason Huntley’s Beckenham Town have made a fantastic start in their first season in the Isthmian League and are the only team in the South East Division with a 100% record having beaten Lancing, Corinthian, Sheppey United and VCD Athletic, all by the odd goal. Their progress thus far in the FA Cup has been a 3-0 win over Horsham YMCA from the Southern Combination East League and a 3-2 win over K Sports from the Southern Counties East. Wasps fans will remember two of our former players who will no doubt be playing for the visitors this afternoonDanny Waldron and Louis Theophanous. Drew Cooney is back in charge for Wasps this afternoon after missing the last two matches and he will have been delighted with the 4 points from the two matches over the bank holiday weekend. A never say die draw at Ashford United after trailing 2-0 and an excellent performance all over the park on Monday against Haywards Heath which was more emphatic than the 2-1 scoreline would suggest. That has put us in 6th place after 4 matches with 7 Ourpoints.FACup run has seen us beat Hollands & Blair from the Southern Counties East Premier Division and an emphatic 4-1 win away at Lancing in the previous round. Today will be a tough match against an unbeaten Beckenham Town who will be full of confidence, but Drew’s Wasps are equally full of confidence and hard-working with a great togetherness so should make a for a truly entertaining cup tie. We are back in cup action next Saturday when we travel all the way to Wroxham in Norfolk, in the First Round Qualifying of the FA Trophy. Please see our website for details of coach Wetravel.are always looking for more volunteers in various areas at the club. Volunteers are the backbone of grassroots football across the country. Why not support your local community club, get active and meet new people. Areas where we could do with more support include bar, stewarding, turnstiles, media etc so if anyone wants to get involved, please speak to me or one of my colleagues. I would like to thank you all for coming along this afternoon and whatever the outcome of the match, I trust everyone enjoys their visit to The OHOB Community Stadium and I wish you all a safe journey home. Enjoy the match

It’s a little while since we had two FA Cup home matches in the same season. I’m going to take the opportunity to talk about the second FA Cup Final I went to see, having been to see the Bolton v Manchester United final in 1958. The programme I bought at the old Wembley stadium on the day of the Luton Town v Nottingham Forest Cup Final played on Saturday 2 May 1959 will help me. When I got the programme out of my files –perhaps for the first time in some 63 years – I was delighted to find it in excellent condition. No folds, no marks of any sort and no writing.
FROMPROGRAMMESTHEPAST
Both the finalists were division one clubs –division one was then our top tier – and Nottingham Forest nearly came a cropper in their round three match against non-league Tooting & Mitcham. Tooting had beaten league clubs in each of the first two rounds and at half-time it looked as if they would add Nottingham Forest to their list.
On their own frozen icy pitch – which these days would have seen the match postponed –Tooting scored two first-half goals.
I have to admit that I cannot remember too much about the day – did I go on my own, where did I stand, what time did I leave home in the morning and get back in the evening, were any goals scored at my end of the ground? The programme tells me who the finalists had beaten on their way to the final. Neither club was one of the big teams – though when Brian Clough took them over Nottingham Forest were for a time the best team in Europe. Since 1959 Nottingham Forest have reached just one more final – 1991 against Spurs – while Luton haven’t reached any more.

This was another serious injury that affected a lot of FA Cup Finals in the late 1950s/early 1960s when of course there were no substitutes (As an aside goalscorer Roy Dwight was born in 1933 and 14 years later in 1947 his father’s brother had a son – a son who is rather better known as Elton John.) With ten men Nottingham Forest came under more pressure and half way through the second half Dave Pacey pulled a goal back for ThenLuton.further problems for Nottingham Forest when with 10 minutes left another of their players had to hobble out onto the left wing after suffering from cramp. But they managed to hold on to the end. If you have any stories about FA Cup matches that you have seen then perhaps you’d like to tell me at lestermedcalf@btinternet.com.

have the same sort of problem and scored 14 goals in winning their first three matches – two of the matches against fellow division one teams. Round six and the semifinal required replays and both saw 1-0 wins after 1-1 draws - this included their semi-final win against Norwich, who were then a division three Norwichside.produced major surprises in earlier rounds by beating both Manchester United and NeitherSpurs.side had had a particularly good league season with Nottingham Forest finishing 13th and Luton four places below them. The league match in Nottingham had seen a 3-1 win for Nottingham Forest while the return fixture in Luton saw a decisive 5-1 win for the home team. Nottingham Forest dominated much of the early play at Wembley and they scored twice in the first 15 minutes - goals from Roy Dwight and Tommy Wilson. But after some 35 minutes Roy Dwight broke his leg in a tackle.
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 10 A goalie mistake gave Nottingham Forest hope early in the second half and a harsh penalty award gave them an equaliser. The replay was postponed twice but was eventually played two Saturdays after the visit to Tooting with Forest winning 3-0 - giant killers don’t normally get a second bite. As it happens I do have the programmes for both of these third round matches. Nottingham Forest also found round five a bit of a problem with two replays against Birmingham City being needed before they won Luton5-0.didn’t

The Isthmian League and all Member Clubs in the League are committed promoting equality by treating people fairly and with respect, by recognising that inequalities may exist, by taking steps to address them and providing access and opportunities for all members of the community. GRINSTEAD
The Isthmian Football League strongly supports the FA statement that there should be a zero tolerance approach against racism and all forms of discrimination. Accordingly any form of discriminatory abuse whether it by reason of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion and belief, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, sex and sexual orientation or any other form of abuse will be reported to The Football Association for action by that Association.” The FA 0800 085
