Good evening and a warm welcome to one and all, and we hope everyone who has made the trip from East Kent to support Sittingbourne has a safe trip home. It's been nearly six years since we last beat the Brickies. Our record, particularly in Sittingbourne, leaves much room for improvement. It would be great to claim a result against one of the sides destined at least for the play-offs. Most of our good results this season, the double over Ashford aside, have been against sides below us in the standings. On Saturday it's another Sussex derby - this time down at Chichester - before a home game against Horndean. There is still a decent gap between us and the bottom two, but both won on Saturday and play each other tonight. Rather than look over our shoulders, let's aim high and try and aim for mid-table! COME ON THE WASPS!

EAST GRINSTEAD TOWN F.C.
MANAGER’S NOTES Evening all and welcome to tonight’s tussle with Sittingbourne. Despite now going three unbeaten in the league I can’t help but be really disappointed after Saturday’s result.
Drew Cooney
of what can be done late on in games on and off the pitch so make some noise again tonight. Enjoy the game - Drew
I personally went to watch Broadbridge Heath last week when they drew 6-6 against Merstham and everything I told the boys about them came to fruition and individually we just didn’t do our jobs well enough to win the game. That said, to come away with something from the game despite being 1-0 down for 85 minutes and playing pretty much the whole of the second half with ten men might suggest to some that it was a good point, but not me. We can and must do better. To add to the disappointing result, we now look like we will be without captain marvel Glenn Wilson for at least four weeks with a suspected quad injury. It’s now down the other boys at the back to step up to the plate.

Today’s opponents were one of my favourites to go up this year and still look in a strong position to achieve this. They have a bit of everything in their side: experience from higher levels, size, pace and a manager that knows this level and several levels above very well. The lads as ever thank everyone for their support and ask you to yet again get behind us. Saturday was a fine example www.egtfc.co.uk

CHAIRMAN’S NOTES Good evening everyone and welcome to East Court for tonight’s Isthmian League South East Division match against Sittingbourne. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all Wasps supporters, the Brickies’ players, management, officials and supporters as well as tonight’s referee Gerry Heron and his assistants Robert King and Stephen Gorman. I trust everyone enjoys their brief stay and our hospitality. Ryan Maxwell’s Sittingbourne are currently fourth in the league with 42 points from 21 matches, one place below Lancing who have 44 points from 23 matches, and five points ahead of Three Bridges in fifth spot. In January, they have so far won three and lost two. They lost to league leaders Ramsgate on New Year’s Day and most recently beat Herne Bay 3-0 on Saturday. Their other two 2024 wins have come against Beckenham Town and Broadbridge Heath and they lost at Hythe last Tuesday.
second half. The visitors had taken the lead in the 24th minute through former Wasp Ben Aubrey on his first return to East Court, and Adonai Dacruz got our equaliser in the 86th minute. We travel to Chichester on Saturday and are back here again the following Saturday for the first ever visit by Horndean. Please note that our home fixture against Hythe Town on Tuesday 20th February has been rescheduled to Tuesday 19th March as Hythe are in the in the quarter-final of the Kent Senior Cup. Thank you all for coming along this evening and whatever the outcome of the match, I trust everyone enjoys their visit to East Court and I wish you all a safe journey home. Enjoy the match Richard Tramontin (Chairman)

Drew Cooney’s Wasps are 13th with 24 points after 21 matches. We have always seemed to struggle against the Brickies with our last win here all the way back in November 2018 when we came from behind to win 2-1. Drew and his team will be determined to buck that recent trend and record a long overdue victory this evening. After a good performance and a 1-0 win at Ashford United the week before, last Saturday’s performance here against Broadbridge Heath was very disappointing, not helped when Kiye Martin was shown a second yellow just at the start of the www.egtfc.co.uk

the programme. So we decided to add a fourpage update to go with that previous programme. Manager Matt Longhurst’s notes start by telling us “it has been a tough few weeks,” with a number of players moving on to other clubs plus some injuries and suspensions. Inevitably there were a number of new players which Matt introduced to us. The programme’s league table shows us in 20th place - there were 24 teams in the league - with Herne Bay doing well in third place with a recent 7-0 win over Peacehaven. We had played four games in January and had lost them all with another run of defeats in December, though we had won our Boxing Day match. We were finding it difficult to score goals. And we were to find scoring goals against Herne Bay difficult - but Herne Bay also found goals difficult as the match ended 0-0. (We then failed to score in our next three games.) If any of you have had your memories jogged by this piece, then I’d be happy to hear from you at lestermedcalf@btinternet.com.
A 10-2 win back in 2011 against Shoreham
With help from the programmes that we produced we’re going to have a look at a couple of games played in the past at the end of January. First up is a Sussex County League division one match East Grinstead v Shoreham on Saturday 29 January 2011. All of the articles appearing in the programme tell us that this will be our first home league match since the middle of November - though we had played a Sussex Senior Cup replay at home in the middle of January. In that time, we had managed to play three away matches. Our reserves in the Suburban League had played no games at all between November 13 and January 18 - though that didn’t seem to bother them too much as they had won all three of the games they had played in the last few days of January.. Richard Tramontin’s notes remind us that we had played our away match with Shoreham back in the middle of August - we had won 4-1 with two goals from Liam Baitup on top of goals from Ross Cable and Elstrom Die. Richard also needed to apologise for the leftover effects of burst water pipes in the clubhouse - we were hoping to have everything repaired in the next week. But more importantly he was able to tell us that we had applied to the FA for promotion at the end of the season, though he acknowledged that one or two things needed to be done if we were to meet the Ground Grading criteria in time. The programme’s league table shows us in tenth place though no great surprise to see that most of the teams in front of us had played a few more games than we had. Shoreham were fourth from bottom and were going through a bad run. We won by the rather embarrassing score of 10-2. In our second season in the Isthmian League we have East Grinstead v Herne Bay on Saturday 30 January 2016 and it was a rather unusual programme that we produced for the game. We had done a full programme for a recent home match against Sittingbourne but the game was postponed after we had printed

CLUB NOTICE Supporter Behaviour In the last few years the club’s supporter base has grown and Drew Cooney and the players truly appreciate the vocal backing they get home and away at every match. Unfortunately, we received isolated reports of bad behaviour and foul language at home games last season. Those complaints have grown significantly this season and at the fixture against Three Bridges earlier this season foul and abusive language was directed at match officials and opposition players and objects thrown onto the field of play.
Verbal warnings by committee members are not having any effect and if we allow this anti-social behaviour to continue there is every likelihood of a sanction from the league and or the FA. We appreciate the vocal support for the team, but we also have to protect our reputation as a familyfriendly, community club proud to represent East Grinstead. As a result, any under-16 attending home games will have to be accompanied by an adult, who will be responsible for their behaviour.

All hands to the pump as we defend a corner on Saturday.
Not only is this totally unacceptable, it is against the ground and league regulations and is forcing fair-minded supporters to stop coming to matches because their enjoyment is being spoiled by a small number.
Also, abuse of individuals and excessive foul language will not be tolerated. Offenders will be removed from the stadium and will receive a ban and, if applicable, season tickets will be rescinded with no refund offered. The club will not hesitate to call upon assistance from Sussex Police if required.

TODAY’s GUESTS
SITTINGBOURNE The club was started as Sittingbourne United back in 1881. In 1886 it became Sittingbourne FC and played at the Bull Ground in the centre of town. In 1892 the club gained senior status. The club won its first major title in 1897/98 when it won the Kent League. The Kent Senior Cup followed in 1902. After the First World War more senior cup and league titles followed with the club also enjoying the first of three spells in the Southern League. The club reached the first round of the FA Cup in 1962 but lost 3-0 at Hinckley Athletic. Back in the Kent League Sittingbourne were one of the strongest teams throughout the 1970s and 1980s - unlike the decade that followed, when what happened on the field got more attention than what went on off it. In February 1990, the club decided to sell its town centre Bull Ground (now Sainsbury’s supermarket) and buy a 23-acre site on the town’s Eurolink estate. A magnificent stadium with a 2,000-seat stand, restaurants, bars, sumptuous dressing rooms, greyhound track and training pitches was the envy of nonleague football. There was success on the pitch when, in their first season at Central Park, Sittingbourne won the Kent League without losing a game – the only senior football team throughout Europe to achieve that feat in the 1990/91 season. Promotion to the Southern League followed with the championship of the Southern Division secured in 1993 followed by promotion to highest level achieved by the club since it’s foundation. The ground record was broken five times during that one season with 5,951 spectators watching a friendly with Spurs and more than 3,000 at the match with local rivals Gravesend – a Beazer Homes Southern Division record. More money flowed in with the £21,000 sale of Neil Emblen and Mickey Harle to MilIwall before the bubble spectacularly burst. Debts of more than £1 million were revealed, the team got relegated, the ground was closed for a while despite the intervention of the local council and the club was wound up. Somehow Sittingbourne have survived it all and even got

back to the Southern Premier Division during this traumatic time (in Steve Lovell’s first spell as manager), finishing an equal highest ever eighth before the financial problems again began to bite and relegation followed. Because of the FA reconstruction of the pyramid Sittingbourne faced a brand-new challenge playing a number of “unknown” teams in the Ryman Isthmian League in season 2006-2007. The 2009/10 season was one of the best since the financial problems as Sittingbourne won the Kent Senior Cup for the first time in 50 years. For the 2013-2014 campaign, Sittingbourne decided to leave their home of ten years and accept an invitation to move to Woodstock Park a 14-acre area with superb social facilities. After a three-year reign as manager, Nick Davis resigned and coach Aslan Odev took over and after initially taking The Brickies to the play-offs he stood down, paving the way in January 2019 for Dover Athletic Academy development manager Chris Lynch, to take over. His assistant Darren Blackburn had a spell in charge during the Covid-affected 2019/20 season before Davis returned for a second spell. He resigned in early January 2023 after 12 games without a win and the club brought in Ryan Maxwell to take his place. The Brickies arrive today in fourth place with just one defeat in eight league games.
