ongoing efforts with the city & county of honolulu S WAIMANALO GULCH SANITARY LANDFILL REPLACEMENT SITE RECONSIDERATION RESOLUTION 21-103 CD1 There are efforts to have the Zoning & Planning Committee of the Honolulu City Council to reconsider the current replacement sites for the Wamanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill. I submitted testimony which essentially places the Wai’anae Community low on the priority listing since we have carried the burden for quite some time already. The other considerations I proposed was that we may wish to remove any DHHL land swap options in the Kapolei area as it could compromise the trust corpus but also that it may interfere with urban development and is adversely proximal to the groundwater aquifer resource.

HONOLULU POLICE COMMISSION ADDRESSING HOMELESSNESS Leeward seems to be experiencing a disproportionate share of the homeless population and the complications which come when our resources are unable to ameliorate the situation. I submitted supportive testimony for the C&CH Core Response to homelessness regarding their “stored property ordinance” & the “Sit/Lie”restrictions in public lodging restrictions. We need to seriously address the multi-factorial causes of homeless/houselessness including mental illness, illicit drug use, lack of affordable housing, inadequate resources, etc.
