Terlebih dahulu saya ucapkan Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri kepada Tetamu Kehormat dan para jemputan dan hadiran serta hadirat sekalian Syukur alhamdullilah kita dapat bersua pada hari ini untuk menyambut Hari Pengusaha Wanita sempena ulangtahun Majlis Perniagaan Wanita-Brunei Darussalam yang ke-18 tahun yang diselanjurkan dengan Sambutan Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Sejak Hari Pengusaha Wanita yang lepas hingga ke hari ini Majlis Perniagaan Wanita-Brunei Darussalam (wbc) Brunei telah mengungkayahkan beberapa kegiatan ke arah menyatukan dan menaikkan taraf para pengusaha wanita di negara ini melalui program nasional dan serantau. Dalam kesempatan ini saya mengucapkan setinggi-tinggi tahniah kepada tiga orang ahli yang akan menerima WBC Excellent Entrepreneur Award pada malam ini dan kepada penerima anugerah yang sudah supaya dapat sama-sama memperkasa pengusaha wanita yang lain untuk mencontohi mereka yang sudah berjaya. Kami masih perlukan ramai pengusaha wanita untuk sama-sama memikirkan masa depan WBC dan turut membuat sumbangan positif ke arah pembangunan ekonomi negara.

WBC EXCELLENT ENTREPRENEUR AWARD

This Award was first introduced in 2014 and is given to WBC members to honour and recognize their achievements in their own businesses and also their commitment to the community. The award is made up of a certificate and a trophy.

This later grew, while he was in charge the business side, I was responsible for operations and procurement. I recalled 1976-1999 was a sheer struggle that paid off. Eventually we managed to purchase a piece of land and built our and Sri Aman Complex in 1988-1992 and Halim Plaza Hotel in 1995-1999 both in Tutong Town. I now run our business with my son. Education: 1961- 1964-Sekolah Melayu Mohamad Alam 1965-1970-Anthony Abell College 1971-1972-St Andrew’s School Employment: 1973-1974-National Bank 1975-2018- Started own business School activities: While studying at St Andrew’s School, my group and I started Islamic religious activities like mass prayers in the school auditorium. NGO Activities: Member of the Women’s Business Council- Brunei Darussalam; As a Committee Member of the International Women’s Club Brunei we organised visits to villages to help the less privileged persons and single mothers. Brief history Women’s Business Council –Brunei Darussalam (WBC) was launched on 20 June 200 at the Closing Ceremony of the APEC Women Leaders’ Conference ‘SME as Global Traders’ hosted by the Council of Women Brunei Darussalam from 17-20 June 2000 at the International Convention Centre, Bandar Seri Begawan. WBC is a national body of women in businesses, academe, government and civil society which aims to represent women’s business interests and concerns and to create an avenue for exchanging ideas, and developing skills, entrepreneurship and support for quality businesses for women and amongst women. The formation of WBC was the initiative of the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam where a SubCommittee of Business and Entrepreneurship formed on 11 March 1999 led the way to the formalization of the WBC. Since then WBC has become an active body nationally and in the regional and international for a. It is the National Focal Point for APEC Women and The Economy Forum and the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network Objectives     

Women Entrepreneurs’ Day was launched on 30 August 2014 in conjunction with Women Business Council’s 14th anniversary.

The 20 June 2000 was when WBC-Brunei Darussalam was launched at the Closing Ceremony of APEC Women Leaders Network 2000 (WLN) Conference at the International Convention Centre, Brunei Darussalam.

Women Entrepreneurs’ Day is one of many opportunities where our community can together involve themselves in empowering, support and celebrate women in business and to strengthen existing networks. This day is also to honour and to focus our attention on the endeavors of women in business, creating innovation and work opportunities and in promoting a love for made in Brunei products.

Since 2000, WBC has been active in representing the women entrepreneurs community in issues concerning the development and progress of women entrepreneurship. WBC is proud to work closely together and gain the strong support from the government and private sectors at the national, regional and international levels to fulfill our objectives towards elevating the standard of women enterprises in this country to a higher level.

THE ASEAN WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS NETWORK (AWEN)

Background The ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Blueprint adopted at the 14th ASEAN Summit in March 2009 in Cha-am Hua Hin, Thailand, reflects ASEAN’s commitment to promote the full participation of women in the productive workforce by enhancing women’s entrepreneurial skills and creating favorable conditions for women entrepreneurs in the region. Action Line A.6.ii of the ASCC Blueprint specifically calls for the establishment of a women entrepreneurs’ network in the ASEAN region. The initiative to establish an ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network was announced by Viet Nam at the 6th ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW) Meeting held on 7-8 November 2007 in Chiang Mai, Thailand, as part of its proposal to develop a cooperative programme between the ACW and the ASEAN Confederation of Women’s Organizations (ACWO) in addressing poverty. The initiative was welcomed by ASEAN Member States. The 7th ACW Meeting held on 22-23 October 2008 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, requested Viet Nam and the ACWO to take the lead in the implementation of the initiative with the support from other ASEAN Member States. The 9th ACW Meeting held on 15-16 November 2010 in Siem Reap, Cambodia, agreed to request Viet Nam to develop the draft Terms of Reference of the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network. The 10th ACW Meeting held on 3-4 October 2011 in Bogor, Indonesia, reviewed the draft Terms of Reference of the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network developed by Viet Nam. The 11th ACW Meeting held on 16-17 October 2012 in Vientiane, Lao PDR, finalized and adopted the Terms of Reference of the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network. Vision and Mission


Vision: “To be the leading organisation in ASEAN for the promotion, development, and empowerment of women entrepreneurs” Mission: Improve the capacity of ASEAN women entrepreneurs and boost ASEAN women entrepreneurs’ development and networking through the Network’s activities. Purpose The ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network is a regional network of national women entrepreneurs’ associations and/or micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises, associations, clubs and/or other economic entities owned or managed by women in all economic sectors in the ASEAN region. The purposes of the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network are: a)

To create a regional forum for ASEAN women entrepreneurs to share information, knowledge and experience on policies, business environment, investment, and socio – political issues and their impacts on business opportunities;

b)

To assist ASEAN women entrepreneurs to improve their business management and skills, such as in communications, leadership and problem solving;

c)

To support ASEAN women entrepreneurs’ better access to financial institutions for women in micro, small and medium sized enterprises, science and technology, trainings, market and business opportunities within ASEAN and beyond, and social protection services;

d)

To support ASEAN women entrepreneurs who are starting their businesses;

e)

To link with other international and regional networks/organizations of women entrepreneurs.

AWEN Thailand chair 2018-2020. 11 May 2018- the AWEN Focal Point Meeting in MSDHS in Bangkok chaired by Khunying Natthika agreed that the member countries set up AWEN offices. WBC-BD is named AWEN Brunei. AWEN Brunei representatives are Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah Hj Zakiah and Nellie Sunny. AWEN Singapore will assume chairmanship 2020-2022.
