Nepal figure

A large important votive sculpture of a crouching figure. (103cm) These figures were donated to the local shrine to the memory of an ancestor.

Iban shaman box

A rare Shaman’s box with two wooden ancestor figures. (30 cm.) Bark, wood, rattan, glass beads, natural fiber, Shimada glass jar lid, red pigment. Contents miscellaneous fetish objects. Ibanic tribes, West Kalimantan.

Citipati mask

Monpa people, border area Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan.

Approx. 18th / 19th century. The glossy patina of the reddish wood indicates intensive use and handling for over a long period of time

This fragmentary skull mask of Citipati is a reminder of the impermanence of life and the eternal cycle of life and death. Citipati is a protector of Tibetan Buddhism, and his mask is used in traditional Cham dance-rituals. (20cm)

Mama figure

This fine and rare sculpture accumulated a thick layer of sacrificial patina.

The small group (numbering 69000) lives near de Benue River in Northern Nigeria and the figure is approx. early 20th century. Ex. collection John Dubrow, NY. Ex. Adrian Schlag. Ex private collection Louis Nierijnck.

Lobi stool

Beautiful, aged stool for high-ranking man. Lobi, Mali. Please note the chubby cheeks of the head, showing the tension needed to carry a heavy load. The glossy patina of the reddish wood indicates intensive use for over a long period of time.

An extremely rare rectangular small mask from Tale people (numbering 10.000). With Raphia beard. Maniema, R.D.Congo. Neighbors of the Lega.
