MARIUS BOSC

SAN FRANCISCO & THE BAY AREA

EXHIBITION STATEMENT Marius Bosc was born in San Francisco in 1940 but due to the strong cultural influence of his French grandmothers he often maintains he "grew up in France on Oak and Masonic." He considers his French heritage to be one of the most prominent influences in his life and work, second only to the local charms of the City and the Bay. Bosc sees his experiences, memories, and depictions of the Bay Area as an exploration of light, color, and space that are specific to the region. Because of his deep and abiding connection to the area, Bosc's paintings evoke a unique and reverent perspective on the city and surrounding lands that he calls home. Bosc says of his practice:

In my paintings, I am always exploring the ever-changing interaction of light, color , volume and space of San Francisco and the Bay Area. I am always discovering the dynamic energy that this interaction creates whether I am painting a San Francisco cityscape, a Bay Area landscape, a floral still-life or a figurative work. From dynamic city views to the unexpected treasure of a house tucked in amongst the hills to iconic eucalyptus silhouettes; The pieces featured in this exhibition all possess a kindred sense of warmth, vitality, and playfulness that embody the creative and charismatic legacy of San Francisco and the Bay Area.
