Sited in Southport on Queensland’s Gold Coast the Davidson House is a modest size residence that is simple in form, however, sophisticated in material selection, finish and environmental impact. The aims of the project were to take full advantage of the sub-tropical climate it’s contained in providing the home owner with high levels of occupant well-being. Environmentally the project aimed to allow natural cooling and ventilation, in addition to, having the home naturally lit even on a cloudy day. The home utilises solar energy and captures and users water from it’s own rainwater tank. The home has taller than most ceilings at 3m throughout accommodating mechanically operated louvres on north and south facades. This allows natural ventilation and keeps the house cool in the warm summer months. The louvres allow high volumes of natural light to enter. The other key features of the project is the open planned internal living area, butt glazed feature window in the study, large kitchen with access to entertainment area, large rear deck facing north with integrated lap pool and large landscaped area containing vegetable garden and chicken coup. 0 2 A b a l o n e Role: Architect

The proposed Abalone Horizontal Duplex, sited in Paradise Point on Queensland’s Gold Coast deviates from the traditional typology through dividing itself horizontally instead of simply splitting the site down the middle. This process has allowed for the implementation of more that one internal living space, the removal of side entrances to dwellings, removal of car spaces at ground and has provided a clear street address for each address in addition to a higher square meterage per dwelling. The ground level home incorporates 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, master bedroom with walk in robe and ensuite, study, large family room with butt glazed window obtaining water views, large kitchen and living area, outdoor living area with outdoor kitchen and large timber deck entertainment area with pool. The above dwelling has 2 living levels. The first contains media room, 2 bedrooms with walk in robes and separate ensuites, study, dining room, large family room, large kitchen and living space, outdoor deck area with water views and alfresco dining zone. The upper level of this address contains master bedroom with walk in robe and bathroom, gym area and roof top deck and entertainment area. The design incorporates a basement car parking level with 5 car spaces, storage, visitor parking and lift system. The design incorporates materials such as rendered concrete, horizontal and vertical timber paneling, hardwood timbers, horizotal and vertical standing seam zinc cladding. It also features a laser cut feature screen from Corten Steel and timber screen on north and east facades incorporating ascending climbing planters. 0 3 U Q : R o b i n a Role: MArch Final Project

The architectural aims of the project were to provide occupants and users with a constant connection to the natural environment and provide high levels of occupant and user well being: the creation of a healthy building. This is achieved through the implementation of breakout spaces on the northern façade of the office tower and external planter systems on most facades to give the design a sense of life with the growing plants constantly ascending the horizontal timber screens on the outer edges. Internally relief air ducts provide a constant flow of fresh air into the workspaces within the office tower and within the east façade of the library planters are situated to improve the internal air quality. Being inside a building and seeing plants move through natural air circulation aids in blurring the line between inside and outside space. The layering of the façade systems allows for the mitigation of northern and western light where skylights within the roof system and at ground allow for natural light to enter the upper and lower levels. Creating a visual and physical connection to nature was a key driver behind the design of the project. • W o r k

To whom it may concern, Through the formal component of my architectural education, I invested my time in developing architecture that responded to, potentially enriched and invigorated the site, place, context, culture and climatic environment. It attempted to respond and relate to the human condition as architecture shapes the way we react to space and form, as it changes the way we live. I also invested time in creating sustainable architecture through passive architectural systems. Architecture that considered material use, texture, natural light, natural ventilation, relationship to natural environment, in addition to, occupant and user well being. In December 2011 I graduated from the Masters of Architecture program from the University of Queensland and throughout my studies and beyond I have gained employment at BDA Architecture, Burling Brown & Partners and ML Design. Here I have been able to develop my skills and knowledge in the different facets of architecture. This led to self-employment for the majority of 2012, where I started my own business Bryce Pierpoint Architecture. Whilst working for myself I completed the Davidson House, which I took from sketch design right through to contract administration and have another project under construction, the Abalone Horizontal Duplex. During this time I also worked for John Campbell Design and Ryall Smyth Architects. In total I have 5 years architectural experience working for firms and myself and have developed the appropriate skills to work independently to create a concept design, develop a design, produce accurate construction documents and administrate a contract. I also have aquired the skills to clearly communicate and develop a relationship with fellow employees, cllients, consultants, product representatives and contractors. Am able and enjoy working in a collaborative environment, however, have the ability to work independently and be self-sufficient. Please visit brycepierpointarchitecture.com if you would like to view my online profile and other works not included in the attached. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I welcome any opportunity to discuss my potential contributions with your firm and look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Bryce Pierpoint.
