PREFACE I find it difficult to comprehend some of the places i have photographed since 2007. I could not have photographed some of these places without the kind friendship, hospitality and patience of Robert Ferrol. Contained in these pages are photographs taken over two days under the streets of London, depicting life as it is - raw, energetic and meaningful. Bryn Graves 2016
INTRODUCTION Life on the Underground is a hive of personalities, stories and life. Different stations depending on their location have different classes of people, yet all these lines are interlinked by tunnels underground the streets of London. There is a certain eeriness about the passage of time in the underground, for the most part there is silence apart from the noise of hustle and bustle of people going about their lives. The most consistent sound is the beep beep beep from the entrance and exit gates of the stations themselves. There is silence and a feeling of claustrophobia as little conversation is heard and little to no eye contact is made. Commuters stare into space, relax as if looking to be asleep, read, text, work on laptops and play online games. Walking about the tunnel system you can go from stuffy hot air down below to a swift cool breeze nearer the surface. Travelling the tube is exhilarating, un-nerving, adventurous and if you are unaccompanied it can be a lonely experience.
