SENIOR CAPSTONE | SPRING 2020

ABSTRACT The project started from the overall question : ''How can we create the sense of privacy inside of the public space?'' Nowadays, when people want to have some personal space in the public, they tend to put the headphones on and dive into the virtual space through their cellphone to set themselves the boundary. This shows the need of some personal space inside of the public area. Started to think what kind of situations make people want to have their own personal space while in public. The response comes from my own awkwardness solo dining experience while co-oping in strange city. ''How can the space reduce awkwardness and anxiety of solo dining experience?'' Layering of space is designed to provide levels of privacy. Different types of dining furnitures are invented for distinct need of solo dining mode: from more enclosed individual pods to more open shared dining space ; from lowlevel of interaction for meditation purpose to high level of interaction for meeting new people. Wanted to create a new type of restaurant specifically for solo diners.
