A NEW BRISTOL ZOO

As the damage to nature becomes more visible, saving wildlife has never been more important. Modern conservation zoos have a role to play: Connecting people to nature. Inspiring and creating tomorrow’s conservationists. Protecting species that are under threat.

Our plans for a new Bristol Zoo at our 136 acre Wild Place Project site, just 20 minutes from the centre of Bristol, will set the standard for a forward-looking zoo. Home to some of the world’s most threatened species, living in spaces that better reflect their natural habitats, our new zoo will reflect the vital conservation work we do around the world.

By selling the 12 acre Bristol Zoo Gardens we can continue to look after animals that most need protecting, improving their welfare and providing them with a place to thrive.

We’re a conservation charity and every penny we raise will support our mission - We’re saving wildlife together with the people of Bristol.

Be home to some of the species

We direct 14 field conservation projects with 31 local partner organisations that conserve and threatened species.

Have conservation at its heart

Around 80 per cent of the species at the new Bristol Zoo will be linked to our conservation programmes around the world.

Inspire current and future generations to value and protect wildlife

In 2023 we will engage over 15,000 children through our education sessions. By 2035, we aim to inspire over 90,000 school children and teach 600 higher education students per year.

“When it comes to animal welfare and innovation, Bristol Zoo has always led the way.

“The best place to progress our forward-thinking vision is at the Wild Place Project site, which is more than 10 times the size of Bristol Zoo Gardens and offers such a fantastic opportunity to continue the world-class work we have always been known for.”

Dr Bryan Carroll, former Chief Executive of Bristol Zoological Society

“I became a trustee of Bristol Zoological Society because I believe its new direction will help tackle the extinction crisis. By focusing on animals that are most in need of conservation, moving to the larger Wild Place Project site, and taking the difficult decision to close Bristol Zoo Gardens, the charity is doing the right thing. It is focusing on how best to save wildlife together –now and into the future.”

Jane Smart, Director of the Global Species Programme International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

“Bristol Zoological Society is focusing on conservation. By not taking all species to Wild Place Project, it is focusing its resources on the species that most need protecting. This is an inspiring ambition. This is the right direction for all modern zoos.”

David Field, Chief Executive Officer, The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland

Neil Young, The Band, Dylan, Blues and Folk.….

We’d like to meet a singer who’s interested to join a small acoustic band.

It’s just for fun as we’re too busy with work and family for anything really serious! We are two acoustic guitarists/banjo in Henleaze who’d love to team up with a singer and perhaps another instrument – mandolin, violin, ukulele maybe.. nothing loud… to play some songs. We’ve been playing Neil Young (You and Me, Harvest Moon), Beatles (Lucy in the Sky), traditional blues (Walk on Boy, The Crow), The Band (The Weight)..Dylan (Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door)…

In a perfect world we’d meet once or twice a month, play music and have some fun. Nothing serious, no egos, no record deal … what standard are we? By most descriptions probably intermediate, although I’m not sure what that really means!

Please feel free to text and leave your details if it sounds of interest – Tim 07968 392378.
