LEARNING SUPPORT RATED OUTSTANDING BY ADEK AND BRITISH SCHOOLS OVERSEAS

OUR SCHOOL The British School Al Khubairat (BSAK) is Abu Dhabi’s leading British not-for-profit, co-educational day school. From Nursery to A Level (3 – 18) our dynamic school culture offers students an enriching experience and outstanding results.

OUR VISION Building on our unique local heritage, we will provide a world-class British education, inspiring all our students to exceed expectations.

OUR VALUES Empathy and Care | Respect and Inclusivity Honesty and Integrity | Endeavour and Resilience

DISTANCE LEARNING LEARNING SUPPORT The Learning Support Department will continue to support and monitor those students on our register during the period of distance learning. Students whose learning needs require additional scheduled weekly provision with a department member, will continue to work alongside that member of staff through a variety of platforms, such as a pre-arranged meeting time, Google Classroom or from the implementation of an individualised support arrangement. Our aim during this time is to assist our students with social, emotional as well as academic support. Supplementary work can be given by the designated weekly Learning Support teacher, if the student feels that additional work is manageable and welcome. This supplementary work will focus on improving key skills which have been highlighted as requiring improvement for the individual student. Alternatively, students may communicate a wish to instead receive support with specific tasks set by other subject teachers, which they may be finding a challenge to complete independently. At this time, as indeed under more ‘normal’ circumstances, the Learning Support Department is committed to providing the best support that is right for the individual student at that particular moment. Learning Support Assistants who work alongside students in classrooms will continue to provide this support, through linkage with subject teachers and direct dialogue with the student. All students on our register will continue to be tracked and monitored by the team in order to identify any further areas of difficulties or suggested support ideas. Individual Education Plans will be reviewed at the end of April, as per the academic calendar. As this review period is taking place within the context of distance learning, it may be that the student, parent and subject teachers are not requested to feedback in this review and renewal cycle; the department will take into consideration students’ grades, entries on the school management system and any other collated data. Nonetheless, if you would like to remain included in this process, please be reassured your input would be very kindly received. Please email: Mrs. Miller-Cork, Ms. Mannion or Ms. Smythe, as appropriate. It remains a pleasure to us all to continue to be able to work alongside staff, students and parents, irrespective of the challenging circumstances we are presented with. Angela Smythe Head of Learning Support
