CAREERS AND UNIVERSITY FUTURE LEADERS DIPLOMA Helping you achieve the university of your choice
Maximise your chances with work experience
At BSAK we start the important processes of University preparation and career planning much earlier than most. As a result, our students are equipped to begin the application process when they reach Year 13.
We work with our excellent network of employers and companies to offer our students many interesting opportunities.
In order to plan their future, they have the opportunity to work with our fully qualified University and Careers Advisor, who delivers a course throughout Year 12 for 1 hour each fortnight, for all Year 12 students.
Core Modules
In addition, students are offered the opportunity to undertake at least one work experience placement. For many university courses and careers, such as medicine, evidence of work experience is essential and we feel it is vital that students undertake work experience during the Sixth Form.

EXTENDED LEARNING FUTURE LEADERS DIPLOMA
We want to ensure that our students stand out from the crowd.
Both the EPQ and the Personal Project serve as great evidence for a student’s passion and academic engagement when applying for university.
Extended Learning is all about expanding your learning beyond the A Level curriculum, stretching your horizons and learning to critique, analyse and debate on world changing issues. Students can focus on a topic of personal academic interest, then select either the external AS Level – Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or complete one ‘in house’ Personal Project. Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) Students opting for the EPQ will undertake this across Year 12 with the option of submitting in the summer of Year 12 or in Year 13. Personal Project Students not taking the external EPQ will complete a Personal Project in Year 12.

GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP FUTURE LEADERS DIPLOMA Play a full role in the world
Share your skill and provide a service
Global Citizenship and service helps students understand how they can make a difference, share their skills and contribute to their community and the wider world.
Through activities such as mentoring, in-class support, ‘Book Buddies’ reading scheme, sports coaching.
Understanding the values and culture of the country in which we live and how we can contribute, is emphasised through the ‘service’ and community aspects of our Diploma. Moral and ethical education, UAE citizenship and global citizenship are also key foci. All Sixth Form students will make an active contribution to the school by engaging in a ‘service’, sharing 1 hour of their time per fortnight. Examples of these are mentoring, in-class support, ‘Book Buddies’ (reading scheme) and sports coaching.

PRACTICALITIES Administration Students must keep a record of what they do during the process. The student record book is a ‘soft copy’ Word document that can be easily opened and updated throughout a student’s time in the Sixth Form. Students should complete the final reflection tasks at the end of the process in time for the February deadline.
How are credits calculated? 10 hours = 1 Credit. Therefore to gain a credit for the Future Leaders Diploma a student must complete 10 hours of an activity to count towards the Diploma. Students can use 5 hours for 0.5 credits, to build up their credit score, but smaller units will not be counted.
What can count? Alongside the mandatory core elements and the specified optional activities, other activities that meet the aims of the module may also count towards the Diploma. For example; if a student coaches at an external sports club, they could use this as evidence of leadership; or if they volunteer every week for a charity, this can be used towards service. If the student is able to provide staff approved supporting evidence of the time used, it will count towards service. All questions on viable activities should be addressed to a member of staff.
