A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF PRIMARY
Dear Parents
As we come to the end of another year the Primary Team wish to share some of our developments, successes and fun times. Please do engage with some of the important information shared in the Primary Handbook 2023/24 and the Co-CurricularandEnrichmentProgramme.
I wish you all a wonderful summer break and look forward to seeing many of you in September at the Welcome Meetings.
If you are moving on to pastures new, we hope to see you again in the future; remembering the world is a very small place.
Kindest wishes
Elaine Rawlings | Head of PrimaryINCLUSION DEPARTMENT
Our Learning Support Department will become the Inclusion department from next term. This new term reflects, more accurately, our holistic approach to meeting the needs of all our students. This is a change in name only and the way in which we work will not be affected.
We are delighted that, from September, we have two ADEK approved external agencies providing Occupational Therapy and Speech & Language Therapy here in school.
KidsFirst and Perfect Balance will be working throughout the week in the primary school, including an after school club on Wednesdays. To access these services please email bemery@britishschool.sch.ae or speak to your child's class or inclusion teacher directly.

YALLA CAME TO VISIT OUR NURSERY
BSAK Early Years is truly an inspiring and creative learning environment, where our youngest learners explore their curiosity and develop their knowledge through our ‘In the moment’ approach. Several local schools and nurseries visited BSAK EYFS this year to find out more about our outstanding provision, and Yalla came along to find out more too.

Our Nursery children have had a wonderful start to their very first year at BSAK!
Our Nursery children have completed their first year at school and we are so proud of all they have achieved! This term we have enjoyed dressing up days - the Royal Coronation celebrations and World Oceans Day were lots of fun and the children looked fantastic! Possibly the most fun had all term was during our two splash days and our first visit to the swimming pool. The children and teachers were all thoroughly soaked and each session was full of laughter and fun. We were also so proud of the children when the performed in their very first school assembly - Commotion in the Ocean.
Our children are now more than ready for the challenge of RECEPTION and have already started to form relationships with their new teachers, though all the Nursery staff will miss them immensely!
BSAK RECEPTION
Reception have had a truly incredible year.
Reception children are finally ready to fly the Early Years nest and embark on their new adventure in YEAR ONE
We have had an exceptional year developing our phonics knowledge, learning to read and write and making friends across the year group. We cannot wait to finish the school year with our first school trip to THE NATIONAL AQUARIUM in Abu Dhabi. What a way to end a fantastic year!
Have a wonderful summer and good luck for the new school year.
NATIONAL AQUARIUM
BSAK YEAR 1
What an amazing year the children in Year 1 have had! It is hard to believe that the year has come to an end, it seems to have flown by.
However, the Year 1 children are now ready for the exciting new challenges of YEAR 2!
And the Year 1 team could not be more proud of them. They are leaving Year 1 as brilliant writers, amazing mathematicians and super scientists! Their knowledge of the world has developed and their problem solving and creativity has flourished!
The children leaving Year 1 have been a delight to teach this year and Year 2 are very lucky to have them!
We wish you all the very best
BSAK YEAR 2
What a year!
It has been an amazing Year in Year 2! From greeting Kings and Queens on London Day, a Festive Show, Sports Day and Amazing Animals, it is no wonder we are exhausted.
Lots of fun was had throughout the year and we wish Year 2, the very best of luck in Year 3.
Make us proud!
BSAK YEAR 3
From Prehistoric digs to Coronation celebrations the Year 3 children have explored, debated and laughed their way through the year.
As always, Term 3 has been jam packed with learning and events. ROMAN DAY saw Emperors, Centurions and soldiers dancing their way down the catwalk for a morning full of historical fun. The children rode the Great Wave of Hokusai in Art and showcased excellent engineering skills when creating structures in DT. As frequent guests in the Science lab, we have witnessed an array of budding talent; the depth in knowledge and vocabulary has amazed the Year 3 team. We’ve celebrated poets, authors and natural born performers in English lessons, whilst Reading lessons took us on a sustainable journey via “Greta and Giants.’ Resilience, determination and critical thinking sum up our term in maths as the children investigated fractions, statistics and much, much more.
We are exceptionally proud of all the brave and enthusiastic learners in Year 3 and, we have no doubt they are ready for the exciting adventures that await in Year Four.
As always, your support has made this such a successful year. Thank you!
Where has this year gone? It seems like only yesterday that the children were coming back into school after the Summer. All of the terms have flown by and this term has been no exception.
This term has seen us learn about the Ancient Egyptians culminating in our ANCIENT EGYPTIAN DAY. The children looked fantastic - we had Tutankhamuns, mummies and even a camel joining us for the day! We have visited THE NATIONAL AQUARIUM and found out about the many different kinds of marine life that make up our exciting and varied environment and we have celebrated the King’s coronation in style with a Year 4 Tea Party.
We have carried on with our usual curriculum: looking at STATES OF MATTER AND SOUND IN SCIENCE - ask your child about the water cycle or how string telephones work and you will be amazed at the technical and scientific vocabulary that they can use to explain.
As you can see from the photos from this term it has been so busy, no wonder the term has flown by! The children have had a great year and we will be sorry to see them move on away from us. They have been a credit to you as parents, us as teachers and to themselves.
We wish you a safe and happy holiday.
BSAK YEAR 5
What a year it has been! The children’s progress in their learning has been wonderful to witness. They have excelled across all areas of the curriculum and are a credit to themselves, their school and their families.
The excitement around a return of trips was fantastic and the children enjoyed visiting Umm Al Emarat Park and the Louvre, gaining opportunities to enrich their learning with experiences away from the classroom.
Scientific knowledge, understanding and skills have been continuously developed throughout the year and it was great to also see the children utilising their curriculum knowledge in practical investigations once again.
The creativity and perseverance they showed in designing and creating REDUCTION PRINTING in art and the development of their cooking skills to produce a STIR FRY (helped with our links in the community) was again a highlight and we hope their creations will be replicated at home!
The excitement around the development of CLUBS has been palpable and the vast array of activities the children have engaged with was amazing. It was heartwarming to see such joy in the faces of children who have engaged in cooking or been able to follow a passion, or having the opportunity to represent their school in sport.
We, in the Year 5 team, are very grateful at having had the opportunity to work with this lovely group of children and wish them every continued success in the future.
BSAK YEAR
It has been an incredible year of learning and fun in Year 6. The Year 6 team are so proud of the children and their achievements. It has been excellent to see their independence and confidence grow. They are now ready for the next stage of their educational journey in Secondary school.

Good luck in Year 7!
BSAK SPORTS
How amazing is it to have had all of our PE and Sports events back this year! From the return to our usual PE teaching programme, our Sports Days, ADISSA fixtures, BSME events, sports clubs after school, you have been extremely busy!
The PE department have really enjoyed doing what they love most - teaching PE this year. The children have thrived during their PE and Swimming lessons, with a focus on activity and fun! Our goal is to create lifelong learners; children who enjoy PE and sport and continue it into later life.
This year, our Year 3 to Year 6 children have had the opportunity to represent BSAK in a variety of sports, such as Football, Netball, Cricket, Rugby and Swimming. They have competed against schools from Abu Dhabi and across the Middle East in a number of different competitions, with great success.
We were delighted to bring back our sports days this year, with our Key Stage 1 children enjoying a fun filled carousel of activities on our Primary Pitch, putting into practice the skills they had developed so far in PE. Our Key Stage 2 children ventured to 321 Sports at Al Hudayriat and took part in a traditional Athletics themed sports day, partaking in a number of track and field events.
We are so proud of every single one of the children here at BSAK. What a year it has been and we cannot wait to do it all again next year!
Wishing you a relaxing and enjoyable summer holidays. Stay safe and healthy.
Music was back with a bang this year in BSAK
There have been some memorable moments cross the year in Music with students performing in multiple concerts both in school and externally, the highlight of which was the End of Year Concert in June.
This year, our students have had huge success in their ABRSM examinations and have represented BSAK at competitions such as Abu Dhabi Young Musician. Speaking of success, we would like to say a huge congratulations to our Musician of the Year, Maximus Cheah, as well as to Anita Chakraborty (Most Committed) and Hugo Vingut Laycock (Most Improved).
Next year we will be looking forward to broadening the depth of the curriculum and giving student access to instruments that they would not typically get through our Instrument Enrichment Program.
Alongside this we will be putting on Shrek Jr as our Primary School Musical next academic year. More details regarding auditions will be released in September.
It is a very exciting time in the Music Department and we really want to thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful summer holidays and we look forward to seeing you again in the new year.
