CHEMISTRY
As a science, Chemistry spans a number of disciplines, but essentially is the science of materials. Students will learn a variety of topics f rom the three main areas of Chemistry: inorganic, organic and physical.
This includes looking at how how atomic and electronic structure is linked to the Periodic Table, how pharmaceuticals can be made from simple organic molecules, and how reactions are controlled to get the maximum amount of product in the shortest time.

ASSESSMENTS
Students will be externally assessed via three examination papers; • Paper 1: Advanced Inorganic and Physical Chemistry (30%) • Paper 2: Advanced Organic and Physical Chemistry (30%) • Paper 3: General and Practical Principles in Chemistry (40%). This paper covers everything from the full two years of the course. Students are also required to pass a practical endorsement. This is a series of core practicals carried out in class and internally assessed by their teacher to ensure they have mastered a range of practical skills.
