his original drawing by the legendary cartoon-contraptionist Rube Goldberg is a marvelous caricature from Goldberg’s long-term stint as a political cartoonist for <PM 6M_ AWZS 2W]ZVIT )UMZQKIV Goldberg won a Pulitzer Prize as a political cartoonist in 1948. Here he views Churchill and Eisenhower, the two old wartime compatriots, through their shared love of painting, as they re-encounter one another, respectively, as Prime Minister of Great Britain (for a second time) and President of \PM =VQ\ML ;\I\M[ NWZ \PM ÅZ[\ \QUM -`MK]\ML QV QVS IVL KPIZKWIT WV QTT][\ZI\QWV board, with extensive printer’s notes in pencil at the bottom, the drawing is in excellent condition; archivally matted (image10 1Á2 x 12 inches) and elegantly framed (21 x 25 inches overall).

This is a very good copy in the scarce mottled-green cloth binding variant. The cloth here is impressively fresh and bright, the binding crisp and \QOP\ <PM KWV\MV\[ IZM ÅVM [I^M NWZ very faint scattered foxing limited almost entirely to the fore-edges. This would be an exceptional example if not for an unfortunate single reddish stain line that runs faintly across the title on the spine and splashes in two small spots on the rear board. That is a shame. <PM JWWS PW_M^MZ Q[ IVa\PQVO J]\ Really a beautiful copy overall.

This edition does not appear in Woods or in the Cohen bibliography, though Langworth does include it in his +WVVWQ[[M]Z¼[ /]QLM 4QSM \PM +IVILQIV MLQ\QWV WN 4ILa[UQ\P, it was produced from American edition sheets. It is bound with I ^MZa I\\ZIK\Q^M KZW[[ML ÆIO LM[QOV \PI\ Q[ []XMZQWZ \W \PM XTIQVTa JW]VL -VOTQ[P IVL )UMZQKIV ÅZ[\ MLQ\QWV[ IVL M^MV slightly different from the Canadian clothbound edition cover design, with a facsimile Churchill signature added. Though the spine here is loosening and the binding and covers, as one may imagine, are extremely fragile, this is a very good copy overall, clean and wholly intact, with a short, closed tear to the upper left corner of the prelims, not affecting any text. In fact, this may very well be the lone copy in wrappers that exists. It is the copy Langworth referenced for his /]QLM entry. 9
