JOB TITLE
Chinese Teacher Assistant Ensure the welfare and wellbeing of students and assist the teacher in providing a high quality, educational programme and in the management of the pupils and the classroom.
JOB PURPOSE
TA’s work under the direction of the teacher; designated TA coordinator, Year Leader, Head of Phase and ultimately the school Principal. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area, with the whole class, a small group, or an individual pupil as required
Reporting to:
The post holder will be expected to have some expertise in childcare and will be expected to make use of their specific skills and talents. There will be some need to interpret information or situations and to solve varied problems. All TAs must be willing and able to work in a team and abide by team decisions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Teaching and learning - Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the Class Teacher and Head of Year. - Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes for pupils, help monitor their progress and feedback to the Class Teacher or Head of Year. - Provide support for individuals and groups of pupils inside and outside the classroom - Undertake some teaching tasks with groups of pupils, following plans as prepared by teachers - Undertake teaching of Chinese mandarin lessons, with support from Chinese language coordinator - Support pupils with emotional/behavioural issues and help develop their social and personal skills - To encourage and support the skills of independence and self reliance - Undertake routine tasks to support the curriculum and assist with events e.g outings, field trips and take responsibility for a group, as required, under the supervision of the teacher - Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress/achievement under the guidance of the teacher - Provide feedback to teachers through verbal or written notes - Prepare resources and materials for new pupils arriving in school throughout the academic year Support the teacher in all aspects of class as directed. - Assist in creating a high quality learning environment and ensure displays of work meet the high expectations set out in the school display policy - Assist in the induction of new children into class life as appropriate. - Share supervision of children in the school during break periods. - Take on the role of bus monitor if required. - Use personal expertise to enhance children’s learning experiences. - To advise as appropriate in the compilation of reports by the teacher. - Discuss planning objectives with the teacher on a weekly basis. - Follow school assessment procedures when marking work as directed by the teacher. - To be responsible for the pupils, under the guidance of the Year leader, if the teacher is absent. - Provide or assist in the running of ASA’s as required. - Support EYFS in planning delivering Mandarin lessons if required. - To take a proactive approach towards continuous professional development Administrative/additional duties - Photocopying and creating resources in order to support learning and teaching - Creating displays of pupils' work - Assist in classroom preparation and clearing up ensuring a well-organised environment - Assist with supervising pupils during break per week and lunch times as per the school timetable - Look after sick/hurt/upset pupils and attend to physical needs where appropriate - Undertake bus supervision duties, if required, under the direction of school administrative staff - Be willing to take on a paid bus monitor role if required.

Smart tailored skirts or trousers may be worn (not leggings) with an appropriate shirt or top, or a tailored dress. Clothes made from denim, lycra, corduroy or other casual materials are unlikely to be appropriate. Casual clothes, tops with thin straps or t-shirts with prominent logos or designs should be avoided. Shoes should be formal. Uggs, flip flops etc are not to be worn, and stiletto heels are not suitable for the demands of the school day. Staff must ensure that makeup and jewellery are appropriate for a formal business environment. Tattoos should be covered. Note -

This job description describes in general terms the normal duties which the post-holder will be expected to undertake. However, the job or duties described are subject to change and may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the level of responsibility associated with the post. The teaching Assistant will be expected to undertake other duties and responsibilities that the Principal or Head of Phase may request from time to time. Duties may be modified by the Principal/Head of Phase, TA Coordinator to reflect or anticipate changes in the job, commensurate with the job title.
