The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated person to join our supportive team at Berkhamsted Pre-Prep. Candidates will have the ability to manage and lead a small team, and will take responsibility for the planning, organisation and running of our after-school Wrap Around Care (WAC) provision alongside the WAC Manager.

The Purpose

Our Wrap Around Care offers an extended day for working parents and is intended to provide the children with a ‘home from home’ experience. We aim to replicate a family centred experience, creating an atmosphere where we recognise that our children thrive if they are cared for in a warm and nurturing manner and where their physical and emotional needs are met by childcare that is attuned to each child’s individual needs

Main Responsibilities:

To manage the day to day operations of WAC provision:

To lead and motivate a team of staff to deliver high quality play opportunities and activities in a ‘home from home’, nurturing, and safe environment

Set up and maintain the staffing rota for WAC, alongside the WAC manager

Ensure daily registers are maintained and accurate for signing children in and out of WAC, including informing the school office if a child does not attend

Ensure that all safeguarding requirements are in place prior to the start of each session and that the children are effectively supervised at all times

Ensure that all pupil medical requirements and needs are identified and communicated to WAC staff at the start of each session and that their individual needs are met

Ensure WAC meets the required Risk Assessments and that all areas provide a clean, tidy and safe space at all times

Act as a point of contact with parents or carers to ensure a smooth and thorough handover at the end of a session

To assist with Parental issues/queries in a professional and supportive manner Where appropriate record concerns raised using the School’s information systems, and highlight/escalate to the appropriate member of staff and/or Deputy Headteacher, or Headteacher in relation to

safeguarding concerns

Ensure suitable age appropriate games, arts and crafts, construction and general activities are readily available to meet the needs of the age range of the children

Audit and order resources/equipment for activities following approval from the Headteacher

Ensure that the School’s behaviour policy is adhered to and where high standards of pupil behaviour and manners are upheld at all times

Plan for and make use of the outdoor learning environment to provide physical development opportunities and play

Oversee, with the WAC Manager, the menus and provision of healthy snacks, and supervise tea

Encourage good hygiene is maintained throughout WAC sessions

Arrange staff cover through the Deputy Headteacher where needed

Additional Management and Administration Responsibilities

To keep up to date with and follow safeguarding procedures in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures

To ensure that high standards of health and safety and hygiene are maintained throughout the Wrap Around Care, including the completion of appropriate risk assessments and recording and reporting of hazards and accidents

To work closely with the Wrap Around Care Manager to ensure that all legal and statutory requirement are implemented and provide reports as required.

Qualifications and Skills Needed

A qualification in childcare NVQ Level 3 is essential

Previous experience in childcare/education is essential.

To demonstrate excellent organisation and communication skills.

To be caring and nurturing, leading with a positive and enthusiastic approach

To react positively to change

To be self-starting, acting with initiative and actively seek to solve problems

To be competent in using computer systems including email, Microsoft Word and Excel
