Dependent on person, experience, and qualifications Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA’s) are an important part of the Pastoral and Academic teams at Berkhamsted. They are expected to help with various activities during the school day, to be resident on site, and to be involved in the CoCurricular and Extra-Curricular activities as determined by the associated departments at weekends and after school, if required.
Main Responsibilities:
All lessons are taught by suitably qualified teachers, and Graduate Teaching Assistants provide extra help under the guidance of such teachers.
The main sports at the senior school are Lacrosse, Netball, Rugby, Cricket,
Football, Fives
The main academic subjects available for GTA’s are Drama, Music and Art, however there are also GTA opportunities in other academic subjects, depending on the successful candidates’ interests.
Graduate Teaching Assistants will involve themselves thoroughly in their department.
Many extra-curricular activities take place at Berkhamsted GTA’s are encouraged to become involved and to offer at least one activity per week, either to help with something they are interested in, or to learn new skills
Carry out duties during the school day
On a rotation carry out after school coach duties involving supervision of students and potential evening duties in the boarding houses

Opportunities are also available for GTA’s to join the external trips as a member of staff, this may include helping with the Duke of Edinburgh Programme, CCF and other academic trips

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Degree Qualification or equivalent
Good playing ability and technical knowledge
The flexibility and ability to coach pupils aged 11 – 18 of varying abilities
Mindful of the need to behave appropriately and professionally at all time with pupils, their parents and peers
Attention to detail
Able to communicate well and establish firm and consistent boundaries
Able to keep clear records
Organisational skills
Motivated and enthusiastic
Able to work as part of a team
