Our History In 1929, Jørgen Jørgensen, a Norwegian outdoor enthusiast, began his search for durable outdoor equipment to perform in Norway’s harsh and rugged land. Starting with simple innovations such as leather straps, canvas backpacks and cotton clothing, he set Norrøna’s direction: to search for the best in technical advancements, to create the ultimate in performance product. Today, four generations later, as traditional mountain life broadens, we are still a family-owned and run company based near Oslo, Norway. Our drive for practical purity produces pioneering benchmarks. We created the original mountain tunnel tent (1972), devised the standard monitoring system for backpacks (1979), and were the first company to use Gore-Tex® in Europe (1977). Insulation materials in mid-layers: tech plus

This 260 g/m² brushed 91% polyester and 9% Elastane fabric is very comfortable on the skin. Its high gauge construction (tight knit) provide a good mix of warmth and moisture transportation . Both of these properties make it functional for a base and mid layer. The fabric is also treated with Polygiene to reduce odour. Wool blend

The warm 280 g/m2 fabric features reprocessed wool from old garments. The brushed inside layer is made by soft polyester to make it comfortable. 40 % reprocessed wool, 40% polyester, 18% nylon, 2% other fibers. warm™1

Weighing between 200 and 300 grams/m², these stretch fleeces allow a good combination of warmth, moisture transportation and freedom of movement. They provide more bulk and trap more air than our warm™1 fabric. These fleeces are among the best in the market. Their unique constructions and structures are perfect for different types of activities, as they trap warm air without stopping moisture transport. warm™4

warm™4 is a fleece that weighs more than 400 grams/m², thus making it pretty thick and very warm. These fabrics are among the best long-lasting fleeces on the market. This thick and warm fleece is perfect for layering on cold days, or used as an outer layer. The fleece will keep you warm inside but let the sweat out. After years of use, they work as well as day one and keep the original look.

Technologies in mid-layers: Polartec® Power Shield®

Polartec® Power Shield® fabrics feature a tightly woven face for abrasion resistance, and a polyester fleece backer for a high warmth-to-weight ratio. The membrane in the middle enables the fabric to block 98% of the wind. The remaining 2% circulates within the fabric which greatly enhances moisture vapor transmission, improving breathability and reducing the risk of heat stress buildup. This is a 300 g/m² tight woven cotton fabric. The recipe is from the 70's and we use the same construction today. The advantage with this fabric is that it breaths very well, it is highly windproof and gives good weather protection for a cotton. The fabric is very comfortable to wear. It works best in a dry and cold climate. Products with this fabric were used a lot on expeditions to the Northand South Pole up to year 2000, and in the Himalayas up to early 80's. integral™ is a solid, anatomical carrying system for moderate loads, up to 15 kg. Emphasis is placed on hip movement, weight distribution and practical solutions. Consisting of a laminated back with a vertical aluminium bar, it makes a classic yet sturdy carrying system, that also can be shaped after your back. Ride Rail™ system

A rail on each side of the pack provides two different positions for the shoulder strap “crossbar”. The carrying position: the position for crossbar at the bottom side of the backpack. This position provides good stability and weight support. But the low position tends to lift the pack up for each time you move your upper body or shoulders, and this solution is not that stable for high-speed activities. The ride position: release the side squeeze buckle at the bottom side of the pack, and move the aluminium buckle up along the rail. This high position tightens the pack closer to the rider, and avoids the pack to move up the rider´s back. It also separates the hip belt from the shoulder straps, and improves movement when riding. dynamic™
