What better way to celebrate this issue than by showing the love of two people united in marriage, right?! We’re talking about the adorably “fun” duo Mimi G. and Norris Danta Ford. Both have amassed huge followings as sewing and DIY fashion influencers. They discuss their current show, “He Sewed She Sewed seen on Bluprint. It’s a competition of sorts where the newlyweds use the same fabric to come up with different designs. This brings us to the thought, how many times do we experience the same thing, but with a different outcome? Meaning, the fabric of our lives can take on various forms; some for the better, and other times to teach us a lesson to become better people. Marriage is a promise to love and honor until death do we part. This same principle can apply to ourselves even before taking vows with another… Shouldn’t we love who we are enough to honor how we were created? This

involves existing in everything that makes up our inner self, personality and spirit. Saying “I do” is expected with the exchange of wedding vows, but selfaffirmations are just as important. I do… gains strength in knowing your gift to the world. Mimi G. and Norris share their love of sewing with thousands, but it’s not only the clothing (sewn) that catches the energy of so many, but the passion that goes behind it. Let’s continue throughout the summer months by saying, “I do” to our talents so we can share them with the world. Unions are beautiful in matrimony as well as when we, as individuals, align our hearts with the gift in our hands. It’s your time! Enjoy our current issue.

HALLE BAILEY

DISNEY’S FREEFORM WRITES OPEN LETTER IN RESPONSE TO HALLE BAILEY’S ‘LITTLE MERMAID’ CASTING BACKLASH

The discovery that Halle Bailey will be playing ‘Ariel’ in The Little Mermaids adaption has caused a lot of racial disputes, among critics. Freeform, a channel for teens and young adults and owned by Walt Disney Television, released a statement on Saturday (July 6) to put an end to the backlash. “Yes. The original author of The Little Mermaid was Danish. Ariel…is a mermaid. She lives in an underwater kingdom in international waters and can legit swim wherever she wants (even though that often upsets King Triton, absolute zaddy),” the post states. “But for the sake of argument, let’s say that Ariel, too, is Danish. Danish mermaids can be black because Danish *people* can be black. Ariel can sneak up to the surface at any time with her pals Scuttle and the *ahem* Jamaican crab Sebastian (sorry, Flounder!) and keep that bronze base tight. Black Danish people, and this mer-folk, can also *genetically* (!!!) have red hair. But spoiler alert – bring it back to the top – the character of Ariel is a work of fiction,” the post adds. “So after all this is said and done, and you still cannot get past the idea that choosing the incredible, sensational, highly-talented, gorgeous Halle Bailey is anything other than the INSPIRED casting that it is because she ‘doesn’t look like the cartoon one,’ oh boy, do I have some news for you…about you.” Despite the negativity given by some fans, Bailey, who is a 19-yearold actress and R&B singer, has received so much support on all social media platforms. Many celebrities posted amazing things including Halle Berry, who most people thought was the one who originally got the gig because of the similarity in names. “In case you needed a reminder… Halles get it DONE. Congratulations @chloexhalle on this amazing opportunity, we can’t wait to see what you do!” wrote the Oscar-winning actress. Halle Berry @halleberry In case you needed a reminder... Halles get it DONE. Congratulations @chloexhalle on this amazing opportunity, we can’t wait to see what you do! #TheLittleMermaid #HalleBailey Singing sensation, Mariah Carey shared, “Congratulations Halle!! My kids and I are so excited for the emancipation of Ariel.” Carey’s message reminds us of the singer’s own liberating time when her studio album, “The Emancipation of MiMi dropped in 2005. and in fact she “IS” a Woman of Excellence. What was even more powerful is that Mrs. Marjorie Harvey, upon accepting her Woman of Excellence Award, asked Aramoni to come to the stage. She then went on to tell her that the LadyLike Foundation will fund her first year of college, then she and Steve Harvey will pay for the rest of her years of college. Not only that but continued her speech by saying that although she rode the bus to get to the luncheon, she wouldn’t have to ride the bus home because she will be riding home with her! There was not a dry eye in the building! This moment encompasses what the LadyLike Foundation is all about, changing the lives of young ladies exponentially, one at a time. The event also takes time to recognize its college scholarship recipients for the year. What feedback have you received from the 10 young ladies who received the scholarships?

eah founded the faith-based nonprofit organization in 2007 with a mission to educate, empower, and inspire young girls living in underprivileged communities around the greater Los Angeles area. The annual luncheon serves as a fundraiser and opportunity to honor women who have made an impact in their communities and utilized their platforms to encourage young women to fulfill their goals. Through Leah’s leadership, the Ladylike Foundation has created cutting edge resource programs, workshops that fine-tune hard skills, and mentorships that provide invaluable guidance and support. Read our exclusive interview with President and Founder- Leah Pump The 11th Annual Ladylike Foundation Women of Excellence Luncheon took place on Saturday, May 11th in Los Angeles with host Vanessa Bell Calloway. Honorees included Storm Reid, Marjorie Harvey, Carrie O’dell, and Jordin Sparks. Describe this year’s event and share how you go about selecting the honorees? This year’s event was amazing!!! We couldn’t have written a better script! We decided to showcase our girls playing a major role in this year’s event. We thought this was imperative so that everyone could see what we do and how much we pour into our girls. Our girls opened up the event with an explosive dance. They introduced all of the honorees, carried the video, and we gave 9 scholarships to college bound young ladies with GPA’s ranging from 4.8 and no lower than 3.5. The most memorable moment of the event was the touching thank you speech from one of our scholarship recipients, Aramoni Gumbs, who told the crowd that she took the bus to get to the luncheon that day and that she was always told that she would never be anything, yet because of the LadyLike Foundation, she realized that she can become a Woman of Excellence

Angeles implementing our programs within their schools. We also would like to begin recognizing men in our community and in our world who exhibit excellence in their various fields of occupation and philanthropy. In October I will be going to Ghana West Africa to refurbish and rebuild orphanages and schools that are in need. I will also be checking on the girls we sponsor at the Mountain High International Boarding School. Our organization has expanded internationally in Ghana and we would love to expand to other cities and states beyond Los Angeles. Wherever girls are in need the LadyLike Foundation wants to be there. What’s next for Leah Pump? The next step for me is to find a home for the LadyLike Foundation. My dream is to have a building which houses all of our programs so that they can run weekly. I am also writing a book that talks about my life and why God inspired me to create the

“Whatever your passion is, whatever drives you crazy and whatever it is that keeps you up at night, that is what you have been placed on this planet to change.” All of the ladies who received scholarships from the LadyLike Foundation have all expressed their gratitude and will be volunteering with us during their time off from school. Each recipient was truly impressive and all had an element of need. With our scholarship, not only did we want to showcase excellence in academics but we also wanted to alleviate the financial strain that goes along with going to college. What do you hope to accomplish for the next Annual Ladylike Foundation Women Of Excellence Luncheon? Do you have plans to expand the organization beyond the Los Angeles area? By the next LadyLike Women of Excellence Luncheon we would love to accomplish more academic, visual/ performing arts, as well and community service projects throughout the year and partner with Middle and High Schools throughout Los

LadyLike Foundation. In addition, I would like to continue my partnership with schools teaching LadyLike Curriculum weekly so that we can reach and impact more girls educating, empowering, and inspiring them to reach their highest potential and become everything they were created to be.

If you could think of one thing to say to help people serve more in their community what would that be? Whatever your passion is, whatever drives you crazy and whatever it is that keeps you up at night, that is what you have been placed on this planet to change. Start small; with a small group of people or on a small project. Pray about it and ask God to help you. I promise you will begin to change the world one day at a time. Creations by Connie I have always been into art, but my passion was in fashion designing. Although my art was doing well, I began playing around with simple beading. Not being satisfied with the costume jewelry I would see ,because it was all the same, I started making my own. What had started out as a hobby has turned into a unique jewelry business. Not just jewelry but wearable art. Every single design has been dedicated to the memory of my late grandmother Orentha Helaire. Justina Adorno Checks Into ABC’s New Series “Grand Hotel”

Photo by: Chris Carroll By: Jasmin Urquiza Montiel

J Justina Adorno’s star is on the rise. Though the actress claims not to have had any starstruck moments…just yet. One would find it hard to believe given she’s part of the cast of Eva Longoria’s new show “Grand Hotel”. Born in the Bronx and raised in South Carolina, Adorno portrays the character of Yoli in this bold, provocative drama series set in Miami. How did your career start? I studied acting in high school and college, but it wasn’t until my showcase in college. I had gotten signed directly after and moved immediately to New York. I did national commercials, NBC diversity showcase, and other projects like a Netflix series and television shows. It’s been a slow process, but the best process. I have been able to learn the industry from being in the background to commercials, and now being able to

have a role in Grand Hotel. It’s so exciting! Tell me your experience filming “Grand Hotel.” It’s been surreal! How natural everything has been…it’s like a dream come true. It’s been so easy and that has to do with our executives, writers, cast and crew. I am so grateful to be a part of the production because everyone is so genuine and talented. It’s like a big family which is exactly what I hoped for. I had so much fun; from casting to parties and interviews, everyone has been so supportive. I look back and see how much I’ve grown as a person and an artist. What is your most memorable part of the Grand Hotel experience? It’s a hard question! I’ve enjoyed everything from being on and off set, in between takes, and being in the hair and make-up trailer. We would have karaoke sessions at 7 in the morning, everyone was excited to be with each other and share each other’s life with one another. Especially with

Feliz, who plays my twin sister, she’s literally like my sister! We met the day we arrived to Miami and it felt like we knew each other forever. It felt like family since the very moment I talked to her on the phone. From walking down the boardwalk to get fresh coconut, jogging down the beach, it’s all been amazing, but I can’t keep talking about it or I’ll cry (Haha).

What is something you like to do for fun? I love eating for fun! I am vegan. I love exploring new vegan cuisines and seeing chefs master the art of plant-based foods. It’s important because that’s the foundation of where our nutrients come from. I love finding new restaurants and telling people about it.

How was your acting experience with the Netflix series “Seven Seconds?” It was life changing. I had gone in for my audition, bonded with the production crew, directors, writers, and show runner. I walked out the room thinking I wasn’t going to get it, but I assumed they liked me and I might be coming back. They called me back in for a few more episodes with no lines, and gave me the freedom to improv. It was an amazing and humbling experience. I got to learn more of the production side and it made me realize this is where I belonged, and where I felt most comfortable. It was such a fun set!

Favorite social media You can follow me on instagram @justina.justina which is my personal page or @justinaveganjourney which is where I post what I eat, cook, and any nutritional tips I find. Thank you for interviewing with BSM Media. Thank you, have a wonderful day and don’t forget to watch Grand Hotel!

Tyler Perry was honored with the 2019 BET Icon award Sunday, June 23, 2019, but it was his moving speech that is to be remembered. The actor and filmmaker paid homage to his late mother, and the many women she knew who had an impact on his life. Explaining that much of what motivates him is “wanting black women to know they are worthy.” Perry also spoke of the old man he met as a schoolage kid— who when nobody wanted to help him cross the street, he did so himself. It was a friendship to last for years, and the metaphor for how Perry formed relationships with others.“Help somebody cross,” spoke the well-renowned producer. “Rather than being an icon, I want to be an inspiration,”he told those in the attendance as they gave him a standing ovation. “So, thank you BET, my new family, thank you everybody. I want you to hear this: every dreamer in this room, there’s people whose lives are tied into your dream, own your stuff, own your business, own your way.”

The Chauncy G “3rd Annual Black Tie Gala” Red Carpet Three-time Emmy Award winning journalist, Chauncy Glover held his 3rd Annual Black Tie Gala Friday, June 21st. The red carpet ceremony took place inside the Wortham Theater Center in Houston. The ABC13 anchor/reporter is the founder of the Chauncy Glover Project (CGP) — an extensive hands-on mentoring program created to groom inner-city teenage boys into upstanding and accomplished gentlemen. This year, the organization awarded leaders in the community who continue to foster Chauncy’s vision. Sheldon TheraGood (“My Brother’s Keeper”); Earlene Buggs (“Woman on the Move”); Trae Tha Truth (“Heart of Houston”); Keith “Mr. D-MARS” Davis, Sr. (“Spirit of the Entrepreneur”) and Dr. Remus E. & Co-Pastor Mia K. Wright (“Forward in Faith”). Along with the honorees— were others in attendance like CGP Project Coordinator, Christina Porter and Influencer and author, Jolanda Jones. Porter, a native of Houston, Texas, by way of Louisiana called the gala a “beautiful experience,” and something everyone involved with— worked toward all year long. Jones, who was a presenter from last year’s gala, was there to support Glover and called the organization “wonderful!” But it was the man, himself, Chauncy Glover whose heart and soul poured into the ambiance of the evening. From making sure the red carpet was set up— to tending to his group of CGP Gents and Young Gents while hurrying off to get dressed, he was every bit hands on from start to finish. “CGP is my life! I am so proud of this organization. I’m just blessed that I am able to be a blessing. I know this is my purpose and I am walking in it.” With all the fanfare and red carpet activity, was an even more important message presented on the playbill. “For colored boys who have considered suicide: When love and mentoring is enough.” The

show was dedicated in loving memory of Kevin Reese, Jr. (July 24, 2008—January 21, 2019). The evening started with a video presentation from the Chauncy Glover Project Houston. Greetings were provided by Mayor Sylvester Turner (City of Houston), U.S. Representative Shelia Jackson Lee (18th Congressional District), and Wanda Adams and Jolanda Jones (Houston Independent School District Board of Trustees). The program included a silent auction which took place during a brief intermission. The honorees were presented their awards during the ceremony along with a ‘Special Presentation and Founder’s Address.’ CGP Gents & CGP Young Gents gave a special performance and were introduced to the attendees in an Afterglow Reception, in the lobby. Music and Afterglow entertainment was provided by Westbury High School Jazz Ensemble. The show was written and directed by Chauncy Glover and produced by Chance Nichols and Bria Landry with Anthony Nicholson as the musical director. With powerful affirmations such as… “I am Confident. I am Respectful. I am Faithful and Powerful. I AM A LEADER… CGP, is proof that positive exposure; enrichment activities, along with fun, tough-love and tutoring creates better opportunities.” Chauncy shared these thoughts to sum up his gratitude to his many supporters, ‘What I know for sure, “Preparation and Love” can change a young man’s life. Mentoring matters, because it works. Thanks for believing in me and my team’s vision. I’m thankful for your continued support to CGP.’

Big Boi (Outkast) portrays legendary music mogul Berry Gordy, while Lloyd appears as Switch member Gregory Williams. In his first role as a leading man, Fegan brilliantly transforms into the falsetto master and takes audiences inside the tumultuous

MOREHOUSE GRAD PLANS TO PAY IT FORWARD By: Twins of Media

Casey Roquemore is a recent graduate of Morehouse College. The California native is set to travel the world before he attends graduate school to earn his MBA. He knows his future plans are more reachable now that the burden of his student loan debt is lifted. In this interview, he shares how an act of service led by billionaire investor, Robert F. Smith has prompted him to give back in and outside the United States.

I was in disbelief when I heard Robert F. Smith’s announcement. I remember turning to my friend Ryan Robinson and asking him, “Did you just hear that?” It was a moment of disbelief due to the financial burden that was lifted off our shoulders. When his statement was renounced by our president that’s when goosebumps rose on my skin and I just had a burst of adrenaline.

You are a native of Vallejo, CA. Who or what inspired you to attend Morehouse College?

What are your plans after college considering you no longer have school debt?

My mother was my inspiration to attend Morehouse College. I can recall during my senior year of high school the college application process during the fall and I can vividly remember my mother, Freda Roquemore, telling me, “I don’t care what schools you apply to, but I want you to at least apply to Morehouse College.”

“ I plan to specifically give back to the programs and divisions at Morehouse College that made my collegiate experience amazing”

How do you plan to pay it forward and what is your message to incoming students at Morehouse? I plan to specifically give back to the programs and divisions at Morehouse College that made my collegiate experience amazing. The Business and Economics division takes students on a “spring tour” which is a yearly trip to foreign countries spreading awareness about Morehouse College to corporate and scholarly institutions. Like Dr. Rubina Malik’s, yearly Dubai trip, which focuses on cultural diversity and management and much more. I just understand the struggle obtaining these opportunities, but I also know the benefit and I will help students in need that deserves it. Casey’s cousin, Arica Roquemore-Blanson shared how proud she is of her family member.

What did you study while there? Business Administration with a concentration in Finance.

You and your fellow classmates made history when speaker and billionaire investor, Robert F. Smith made a promise to pay the entire student loan debt for the graduates of 2019. Describe how you felt in that moment.

I will be working at Quicken Loans as a mortgage banker in Phoenix, AZ in July. Now that this financial burden is lifted I plan to attend graduate school to obtain my MBA and also travel the world before doing so…

“It feels good knowing my cousin attended and stuck with college through the good and bad. My proud moment is watching Casey grow up from a kid into a grown man living out his goals and dreams.” Congratulations to the Morehouse class of 2019!!

Since the premier of Season 4 on June 6th, without giving away spoiler alerts, what can viewers expect to see on upcoming episodes? Viewers can expect to see a sexy show (not in a sexual way), adventure, action and a beautiful setting. The backdrop to the show is so amazing. What did you enjoy most about being a part of the film, Spiderman? It was a pleasure working with Tom Holland. He’s not only a great actor but a wonderful human being. This was such a fun super hero movie. It was just awesome working with him. You play a major role in supporting children with Down’s Syndrome. Why is this so important to you?

I’m from the Dominican Republic and there are so many children with it. They are beautiful children. You just have to spend time with them. They are just amazing. Hemky also took time to speak about the crisis a the boarder. It breaks my heart when I think about the situation occurring at the border. These kids aren’t criminals and shouldn’t be treated like prisoners. From infants to young adults, they will suffer from this traumatic experience for years to come. How do you think we-as a human race-can help with this situation? America is the most beautiful country. Know your rights. Speak up. Make calls to your Congressman. Show your concern for these babies and children. Put pressure on the responsible parties. Do the right thing! What’s next for you? I will be promoting my wife’s music. She has a new video for her song, Holy Water. I am so blessed to have a wonderful wife and family. Both my wife and kids are artists and I’m very proud of them. My wife is very talented. I plan to take the summer off to prepare for our move to Nashville. This is my wife’s time to shine. Shes so amazing. I also have a new movie coming out soon. I’ll share more information at a later date. How can fans reach you on social media? Instagram and Twitter- HEMKY Thank you for your time. We’re looking forward to reconnecting with you soon. Yes!

Mimi G and husband Norris Dรกnta Ford are happy and in love as newlyweds. The duo, both individually and collectively are known for their impeccable sewing skills. Mimi G, is an award-winning influencer with 312K followers on Instagram and Norris has an impressive resume as a style expert turned teacher where he influences men to sew. Their new show; He Sewed She Sewed debuted last month on Bluprint. The concept: One bolt of fabric + two super creative people = one epic sewing adventure. But before they united in marriage and entrepreneurship, their journey to meeting one another came with separate life experiences.

M&N COVER STORY

I ran away from home when I was fifteen. It’s a memory Mimi G shares about her tough childhood. The reason: She was sexually abused by a couple of family members. I ended up in L.A. with no money and having to sleep on people’s couches. Other times, she remembers being homeless in a big city. Once by herself and then as a mother, with her oldest daughter. My own mother tried to help as best she could, but I just went from one bad situation to the next. I panhandled and begged people for food. If I had to be nice to you to crash on your couch, it’s what I did. Mimi described her upbringing, in Chicago, as a traditional but dysfunctional Puerto Rican family. Admitting, healing didn’t take place until years later and under different circumstances.

Norris Dánta Ford grew up in the South. He was born in Athen, Ga., but raised by his adoptive family in the city of Thomasville. Hints of his southern accent could be heard throughout our interview. A naturally funny guy, Norris’ evolving fashion style began as a small child. He would “show off different styles of clothing when visitors would stop by his foster home, where he and his younger sister, Bette Ford, were seeking a family.” Believing “pride and presentation were essential because those visitors could determine his future.” His thoughts would prove true, when him and his sister eventually found a home.

“How they came together as one” Mimi remembers the first time she met Norris. “He had on at least thirteen prints, I was like, what is this guy wearing?” (Laughs)

Norris remembers being drawn to Mimi’s energy. “She has amazing energy!” Desribing the feeling as... “nothing he’s experienced before.” Mimi adds, “I liked Norris’ energy as well and his swag. There was just something about his swag that caught my attention.” Both can agree they are competitive by nature, especially when it comes to being in front of the camera. He Sewed She Sewed is an extension of what we do everyday. When Bluprint came to us to do a show, we had already been thinking about the concept. We pitched it. They loved us and, so, we headed to Denver to create the show. It turned out to be better than we anticipated, says Mimi. “It’s competitive but fun...like who can do it better, sort of thing,” chimed in Norris.

By: Twins of Media Viewers who tune in to watch the series can see how well the two work together. Mimi jokes she’s tidier than Norris, “There’s fabric everywhere!” and he claims, “She tries to steal some of his style techniques.” Either way, it’s evident they’re crazy about each other. Something those who attended their recent nuptials got to witness. “Everything we had gone through as a couple, showed in our emotions the day of the wedding,” says Mimi. All of the challenges we faced and the navigation of a blended family... “I saw my soon-to-be husband standing there, barely keeping it together, and I got emotional too.” We asked them to recall a special moment from that day (knowing there were obviously many) and both agreed, it was when they exchanged wedding vows. “I wanted to recite my vows in Spanish,” says Norris. Something he didn’t share with anyone because he wanted to stay focused and get it right. In fact, Mimi tried teaching Norris the language at one time and, let’s just say, it didn’t go as both had planned. “I’m from the South,” says Norris. And the thought of him standing in front of her and all their guests, reciting his love in non-english, made her a bit nervous. What she and those same people didn’t expect was how beautifully Norris spoke his vows. Not a dry eye in the place. “I was blown away,” says Mimi. The private ceremony took place on June 1, in Santa Monica, CA., and included the couple’s closest family and friends. What’s next on the radar for the famed DIY fashion influencers? To continue to work together and challenge themselves for more.

NOTHING COULD TAKE AWAY FROM THE FACT THAT THEY’RE BOTH PASSIONATE AND CREATIVE PEOPLE, WHO HAPPEN TO HAVE EXPERIENCED “LOVE AT FIRST STITCH” AND FELL HAPPILY EVER AFTER INTO WEDDED BLISS.

It’s how Norris moved away from being a fashion stylist to a teacher... by challenging his next big venture. “Styling came too easy for me that I believed at one point, everyone knew how to do it,” he shares. “The challenge was to find something else that would involve what I already loved doing, and I found teaching people to sew was it.” Norris believes more men are interested in sewing based on the question we asked, “Yes, I believe men learning to sew is becoming more popular than before.” And Mimi sees her lifestyle, as one where it has not only helped her but many of her followers as well. “I didn’t know what blogging was when I first started my business, years ago.” And it was in 2012, when Mimi G. Styles was created— that she began to see its true impact. By this time, she was in a previous marriage and a mom of three. A lot of how I felt in my youth, surfaced later in life when I became successful. I didn’t start going to therapy until a few years ago. People have said to me...you are successful, live in a nice home and have money but, actually, that was the time I had to come to terms with my past the most. “I learned to sew from my aunt”... “I remember watching her at the age of twelve. Little did I know, it would help me to help myself and so many others.” The couple that sews together stays together is what Mimi G and Norris believes. And as they moved about during our call (there were moments a signal was lost because they were near the mountains) nothing could take away from the fact that they’re both passionate and creative people, who happen to have experienced “love at first stitch” and fell happily ever after into wedded bliss.

Frazier

Madell

M

Mandell Frazier is a multi-talented SAG-AFTRA Actor, Producer, TV Talk Show Host and On-Air Radio Personality. He’s best known for his role as the wealthy homeowner on Tyler Perry’s “If Loving You Is Wrong”, Crockett (Abby’s bodyguard) on “The Young and the Restless” and Kym Whitley’s personal trainer on “Raising Whitley.” The star talks openly and proudly about his Christian values and his relationship with God. He believes that success ties in with worshipping The Lord. “Those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.” – he says. What does this mean? To worship God in spirit and in truth involves loving Him with heart, soul, mind and strength. That’s pretty powerful. A prayer life is vital to becoming and maintaining success, according to Frazier. His platform has always been centered around the following: Faith, Fitness and Focus. Lets see what his views are. Faith: Here he proclaims his love for God and how it has impacted his life: Marriage- He’s married to his best friend, Tonya. They have been married for almost three (3) years. Their wedding took place in Maui on the same day as his parent’s 59th wedding anniversary. Frazier says he prayed to God to send him the right mate and his prayers were answered. The key to their successful marriage, he proclaims, is keeping God in the center. Family- he’s very close to his family. His mom is 88 years old and his dad passed away in 2008. August 20th will mark his parents 62nd wedding anniversary and Frazier’s 3rd wedding anniversary. He is the youngest of seven children. Friendships-he says choosing our friends wisely is important. We must decide who is placed in our path for a season, a reason or a lifetime. We must also be willing to trust God when it comes to reducing our social circle. Brought up in a Christian home, he has always known the Lord but shares how he developed a closer relationship with God later in life. According to Frazier living by the bible is a must. “The bible provides scripture for everything.” His favorite scripture is Matthew 6:33 which says:“ But seek ye

first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” He feels that when you seek God first, everything else falls into place. Fitness: Prior to all the other accomplishments, Frazier was the Fitness Director for LA Fitness in Atlanta, GA. To him being fit, eating right and taking care of one’s self is vitally important. 1Corinthians 6:19 talks about how our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. It’s fitting that he would live his life with this scripture in mind. It’s also important to him because of some of the many roles he has taken on in acting. Regular exercise and physical activity promotes strong muscles and bones. It’s obvious he practices what he preaches. He feels that when we stay active it aids in maintaining our weight, cutting down on health issues, and increases energy. Frazier says we should all find some time for regular, physical activity and avoid temptations. Focus: Frazier believes the center of one’s interests requires focus and concentration. Without such, one becomes distracted and loses sight of goals. Prayer is first and foremost in goalsetting. Focusing on God’s Word and His promises is key. Philippians 3:15 (MSG) says: “So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than the total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision- you’ll see it yet!” That’s a very profound scripture. He feels we tend to become what we look at and focus on. Every person with whom we have contact and each event we experience in life has a positive or negative effect on us. We can focus on the positive or the negative- it’s our choice. If you don’t know Mandell Frazier, you should at least know by now that he is a true man of God. Throughout the interview process he stayed focused on the goodness of The Lord. Never once did he put the attention on himself or what he has achieved. He doesn’t proclaim to be “celebrity status” or a movie star. Check out his many accomplishments and take note of what he posts on social media. It’s wonderful to see someone survive Hollywood- In spirit and in truth- remaining focused on God’s Word. It’s rare yet refreshing.

ERENA

WILLIAMS

Serena Williams, Naked Truth in Revealing Essay and Unretouched Photoshoot Serena Williams, 37, models a sparkly, flashy, gold dress by Stella McCartney that shows her muscular legs and back, in a Ralph Lauren gold cape dress with Christian Louboutin heels. Williams is featured on the August cover of Harper’s Bazaar in an unretouched photoshoot. She not only slays her natural look, but the tennis legend opens up about the truth in regards to her memorable loss at the U.S Open in 2018, where she talks about how she finally came to peace with herself. Furthermore, Williams discusses in the feature— her loss and the injustice of being a woman. She accuses referee, Carlos Ramos of sexism for alleging that she was cheating on the court. Believing, if she were a man, he wouldn’t have been so harsh. Every night after the incident, she had never ending questions trying to figure out why it happened. Again, asking, “Would it be different if she were a man?” Williams describes she was “hurt” and “cut-deeply,” comparing it to other setbacks she had but, somehow, this was not the same. She admits, she was tired of not being at peace with herself and decided to seek therapy. “Days passed, and I still couldn’t find peace. I started seeing a therapist,” Williams continued. “I was searching for answers, and although I felt like I was making progress, I still wasn’t ready to pick up a racket.” Williams finally realized what would help her move on from the situation. Apologizing to Naomi Osaka. Admitting, how apologizing to Osaka is what gave her peace and set her free. Williams released the message she sent to Osaka. “Hey, Naomi! It’s Serena Williams. As I said on the court, I am so proud of you and I am truly sorry. I thought I was doing the right

thing in sticking up for myself. But I had no idea the media would pit us against each other. I would love the chance to live that moment over again. I am, was, and will always be happy for you and supportive of you. I would never, ever want the light to shine away from another female, specifically another black female athlete. I can’t wait for your future, and believe me I will always be watching as a big fan! I wish you only success today and in the future. Once again, I am so proud of you. All my love and your fan, Serena.” Williams stated in her first- person essay that Osaka’s response made tears roll down her face. “People can misunderstand anger for strength because they can’t differentiate between the two,” she said graciously. “No one has stood up for themselves the way you have and you need to continue trailblazing.” In spite of the controversy, Williams realized why she was stuck in the moment; coming to the conclusion that it wasn’t all the backlash she had received, but that Osaka deserved so much more on that special day. Williams shares that her daughter is the reason she uses her voice, and picked up her racket once again. And, ultimately, she is doing her thing and looking fabulous along the way.
