Birch Avenue, Blandford St Mary, Dorset DT11 9QD Tel: 01258 453331 - Fax: 01258 455865 E-Mail: office@blandfordstmary.dorset.sch.uk Headteacher: Mr P Lavis B. Ed (Hons), NPQH Dear Applicant, Thank you for your interest in the Headteacher post at Blandford St Mary Primary School. This is a fantastic opportunity for an outstanding individual to further develop our school, moving our OfStEd judgment from Good to Outstanding. We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, visionary leader who is passionate about learning and can inspire and motivate our staff, pupils and governors to be the best that they can be. The village of Blandford St. Mary is situated adjacent to Blandford Forum and the parish of Bryanston to the north and Charlton Marshall to the south. The school is situated to the west of the village. Close by is the famous Hall & Woodhouse brewery. Blandford St Mary is a Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School. The school moved to its new site in 1997 and in September 2005 changed its status from First to Primary school. We have a single form entry and current number on roll is 200. We have an experienced and extremely dedicated team of teachers, teaching assistants, support staff and governors who give freely of their time and regularly go beyond what is expected of them. As a Church of England school, Christian teaching and values are very much at the heart of the school. Collective worship at school allows all members of the school and local community to come together. We are fostering stronger links with the local benefice through hosting Church Services at the school.

Our school already has a “highly innovative and motivating curriculum, which makes learning very relevant for pupils, ensures that they develop excellent attitudes to learning and work hard and pupils achieve well due to good teaching.” OfStEd 2013 and our children “thrive in a consistent, safe, inclusive and dynamic environment which is rooted strongly in its community...” SIAS Diocese inspection 2012. As part of our current development, the Governors are exploring the possibility of converting to Academy status. The intention would be to convert for the start of the next academic year, September 2014.

Please complete the application form and covering letter either electronically or by hand. Your covering letter should not exceed two sides of A4. Please provide the names of 2 referees, one of whom should be your current employer and, if possible, one from a church minister. Applications should be received in the school office by 15th January 2014. Please contact Emma Barton if you would like to arrange an informal tour of the school either by phone on 01258 453331 or email: office@blandfordstmary.dorset.sch.uk. I look forward to receiving your application. Yours sincerely,

Mark Phipps Chair of Governors
