Dear Parents

I trust that you are all well and recovered from the excitement that was the General Election? What it all means for us as a school I am not yet sure (and nor are any of the ‘powers that be’ either!) but if we are to become a Swedish Free School, a Super-Academy or a Pupil-Premium-Poptastic-Primary... You’ll be the first to know I promise! After half-term the World Cup will soon be upon us and if you were at last Friday’s Community Celebration Assembly you would have witnessed our World Cup draw where each class got to find out who they would be following (as well as England of course) during the competition. The country they are linked to will also form part of a classroom theme that will encompass all areas of the curriculum from the obvious geographical links to the more subtle art opportunities. It promises to be an exciting time.

The latest attendance results are in and the top 3 classes for the month of May are:

1st Komodo Dragon Y6—97.7% 97.7%

2nd Blue Whale Y1—97% 97% 3rd Koala & Scarlet Macaw YR—96.8% &Y3—96.8%

A fantastic effort—remember:

Every Day Counts! Have a great half-term and we’ll see in June!! Crikey.

School of the Week

Dear Parent/Guardian

Blandford St Mary Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School have been crowned ‘Appetite for Action’ School of the week! Appetite for Action is an initiative that helps primary schools learn how to make the food they eat more sustainable and challenges schools to make a difference. It is run by Sky and its environmental charity partner Global Action Plan. Find out more at www.appetiteforaction.org.uk To start the ‘Reduce Rubbish’ challenge the children have formed their Eco Club ‘The Eco Helpers’. The pupils’ hold regular eco meetings; they discussed where in the school grounds they were most likely to find rubbish. The pupils decided on areas like the hall at lunchtime, the Astroturf, the playground and hedges. To combat the areas the Eco Helpers conducted a Rubbish Hunt and recorded what they had found. The team also decided to get their fellow pupils environmental suggestions and opinions on the schools waste levels. They made an Eco Helpers Idea Box for and have written a sign above it asking everyone for their suggestions either in the box or on the display board. As a reward for all their hard work, they have won a scarecrow kit on behalf of the whole school, donated by Hen and Hammock. We would like to invite you to join us in congratulating the pupils for all the fantastic work they have done! Best Wishes, Blandford St Mary Church of England Primary School
