Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a great summer and that your children are enjoying the start to school? My message this time around is one of administration I’m afraid:

Please don’t assume that you will be able to send your children wherever you like—it doesn’t work like that! Please take some time to read the documentation and we’ll be in touch soon.

This is the time of year when we like to get our paperwork in order! Every child in our school should have a home-school agreement signed by their parents and handed back to the school office. This document is important as it shares the school’s aims and objectives as well as setting out how we envisage working together with you and your child to make their time at Blandford St Mary Primary School a successful one. It also has important information on it relating to permission to take pictures and share on our school website etc as well as permission to allow your child to visit the local community as part of their learning without us having to ask permission over and over again.

As you know, our coffee mornings and celebration assemblies on a Friday morning are very important to the whole school. They are a fantastic way for families and friends to find out about what our children are learning about in school—whilst being served coffee and the odd sneaky cake! Please look on the school’s calendar to see when each class is contributing. On the 30th September (Year 6’s date) we are taking part in the...

4th November ~ Yr 2 For those of you with children in Y6—you need to start thinking (if you haven’t already) about transition to secondary school. Have a look at the document pictured (there is a copy on our website) which will give you guidance about how to proceed. The deadline for submitting applications for admissions to secondary schools is 31/10/11.

..come along and support this fantastic charity by buying a cake and a drink. Thanks so much for sending your children back full of beans!!

Team Super schools update We are pleased to announce, that due to the generosity of your friends and families, not to mention the hard work of your children, the school raised £1467 for Team super schools, of which a donation of £700 was made to the school to be used for providing new and better sports equipment. Thank you for all the help and support you gave to your children to make this possible. Please can we remind you that photo’s of the children that were taken with Larry Achike are still available from the school office and a donation of £1 is required

Harvest Festival Harvest Festival assembly will be held here at school next Friday 23rd September at our usual time of 8.50 a.m. We would be very grateful if any harvest donations could be brought into school on that Friday morning and placed on the display table located under the screen in our entrance lobby. This year, as well as supporting the residents at Bryanston Court, we will be donating some gifts to the Blandford Area Youth and Community Centre who give parcels to young people who are either homeless or in basic accommodation. They also encourage independent living skills and teach cooking skills.

Also, some of you may know that Blandford St Mary church have links with a refuge in Salisbury who support women and children who desperately need assistance. They too will benefit from your generosity. In addition to our Harvest Festival assembly on Friday there will also be a Harvest Service at Blandford St Mary Parish Church at 10am on Sunday 25th September. Everyone is very welcome to attend the service and it would be lovely to see many of you there.

Meet the Teacher Evening Wednesday 5th October is our Meet the Teacher evening. As well as being an opportunity to talk to your child’s teacher there will be an opportunity to learn about:

How Our Children’s Brains Work! These evenings have always been well attended and this year we’re delighted to be able to provide a crèche for those of you who are unable to find childcare for your children. The presentation is for adults only so please consider childcare before signing up. A further letter will follow with times and arrangements in the near future. Keep the date free!
