My message this time around is one of administration I’m afraid:
3
Meet the teacher
3
Open morning

This is the time of year when we like to get our paperwork in order! Every child in our school should have a home-school agreement signed by their parents and handed back to the school office.
Celebration Assembly Dates 14h September ~ House Captains & Charters 21st September— Yr 5
28th September— Harvest Festival
5th October—Y6
12th October—Y4
19th October—Y3
26th October—Y2
wherever you like—it doesn’t work like that! Please take some time to read the documentation and we’ll be in touch soon.
This document is important as it shares the school’s aims and objectives as well as setting out how we envisage working together with you and your child to make their time at Blandford St Mary Primary School a successful one. It also has important information on it relating to permission to take pictures and share on our school website etc as well as permission to allow your child to visit the local community as part of their learning without us having to ask permission over and over again.
For those of you with children in Y6—you need to start thinking (if you haven’t already) about transition to secondary school. Have a look at the document pictured (there is a copy on our website) which will give you guidance about how to proceed. The deadline for submitting applications for admissions to secondary schools is 31/10/12. Please don’t assume that you will be able to send your children
As you know, our coffee mornings and celebration assemblies on a Friday morning are very important to the whole school. They are a fantastic way for families and friends to find out about what our children are learning about in school—whilst being served coffee and the odd sneaky cake! Please look on the school’s calendar to see when each class is contributing.
Finally—Meet the Teacher is early this year! Next Wednesday in fact! Hope to see you there.

School Nurse Drop-In
Please can we ask that your children are fully supervised after school. We have had some incidences with a number of children playing in the peaceful patch at the front of the school and climbing on the fences. As always our concern is for the safety of your children.
The next School Nurse drop in is on Monday 17th September at 8.45am. Please let the office or one of the class teachers know if you would like to make an appointment to see Sarah. You can also just pop in on the day.
Governor Vacancies We are looking to add to our brilliant and dynamic governing body! We have recently lost the series of two of our most influential parent-governors and would like to replace as soon as possible. If you think it might be something you’re interested in please follow the links of the school website to the Governors’ area and take some time to investigate. If you think it may be for you then please submit your name to the school office to be put forward to a vote. On submitting your name we will explain what happens next. Looking forward to a mass of interest!
Blandford St Mary is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. All appointments will be subject to a full CRB disclosure and successful references.

Friends of the School (FOS)
The next AGM for the FOS will be at school on 25th September at 6pm. Please come along and see how you can support the school by raising funds and many other ways.
Harvest Festival Harvest Festival assembly will be held here at school next Friday 24th September at our usual time of 8.50 a.m. We would be very grateful if any harvest donations could be brought into school on Friday morning and placed on the display table located under the screen in our entrance lobby. This year, as well as supporting the residents at Bryanston Court, we will be donating some gifts to the Blandford Area Youth and Community Centre who give parcels to young people who are either homeless or in basic accommodation. They also encourage independent living skills and teach cooking skills.
Also, some of you may know that Blandford St Mary church have links with a refuge in Salisbury who support women and children who desperately need assistance. They too will benefit from your generosity. Further details will be shared about a service at Blandford St Mary church later.
Meet the Teacher Evening 6pm on Wednesday 12th September is our Meet the Teacher evening. As well as being an opportunity to talk to your child’s teacher there will be an opportunity to learn about:
How Our Children Learn to Read
These evenings have always been well attended and this year we’re delighted to be able to provide a crèche for those of you who are unable to find childcare for your children. The presentation is for adults only so please consider childcare before signing up. Please let us know you are coming by filling in the contact us form on the school website. Thank you.
