STOP PRESS ~ ELECTION I am sure that it won’t have escaped your notice that this Thursday 6th May is Election Day! As you know our school is being used as a polling station and will be closed to the children. We look forward to seeing everyone back as normal on Friday and eagerly await news on the election result.

Dear Parents Dear Parents, Everything is so political at the moment! Posters up, knocking on doors, radio interviews, television debates, who might be working with whom... Excitement, after excitement after excitement. Of course, what they missed was the tragedy of Bristol Rovers’ late push for a play-off place withering to a pathetic halt. No change there then. Us Rovers fans learn to deal with the disappointment! Of course—we have had much more success at school this year: Our gymnastics team in years 3 and 4 were champions of Blandford with a fine victory in the gym festival. Our Year 5 & 6 football team were also champions of Blandford and placed third in both the Davison Trophy and the North Dorset Football Festival. Our Talented Stars

are to be celebrated on our Talented Stars board outside the school hall. Please encourage your children to share their out of school successes with us (sporting or otherwise) because we love to make a fuss! Everyday Counts! I have mentioned attendance issues before in the newsletter (and I will continue to!) and discussed its impact on learning. We are aiming for a minimum attendance rate for our children of 95%. Even this means that a your child would be missing 8 days of school which is an awful lot. Last term 33 of our children managed to be at 100% of the time— well done to those children and their families. The overall attendance percentage for the whole school for the Spring Term was 95.3%. So, we’re on target—let’s keep it up!

EcoEco-Committee The school’s eco-committee met this Tuesday to discuss a range of issues across the school. We decided to increase our membership to include at least one representative from each class as well as representatives from the school council, members of staff, Friends of School and governors. If you would like to be involved in the group then please let us know at school. All our ideas for saving energy, looking after our environment and recycling and reusing will be shared in later newsletters.

Fusion Course We are delighted to be hosting a six week Fusion programme which is aimed at equipping families and anyone working with parents, children or young people with skills and strategies to improve positive communication within the family unit. The six week programme will be starting on Friday 28th May at 9.20 am, but the course leaders will be available at our Friday drop in session on Friday 21st May to explain and discuss details about the programme. Leaflets are available from the School Office.
