PERSON SPECIFICATION PA/Secretarial/Admin/Finance Officer Knowledge, Skills and experience

 A minimum of 5 GCSE’s or equivalent (including Maths and English), a business qualification is desirable, in addition of office experience / vocational qualifications.

 Experience of effective financial management and accountancy including handling cash.

 The ability to analyse, interrogate and extract information and prepare reports for senior managers and governors.

 Attend meetings outside normal hours, as appropriate, to disseminate financial information.

 Knowledge of education funding arrangements would be an advantage as would budget planning and strategic approaches.

 Previous experience in a Secretarial / PA role is desirable.  Experienced computer user especially; Word, Excel, Internet and Email. Familiarity with LA ICT systems for finance (Premier Finance) an advantage, but not essential as training will be provided.

 Good attention to detail in maintaining records.  Maintaining confidentiality with an ability to show sensitivity and objectivity in dealing with these issues.

 Knowledge of personnel and human resources legislation. Experience of recruitment, retention, staff appraisal and review as well as the maintenance of staff Management Information Systems and manual records. Familiarity with LA programmes for personnel an advantage, but not essential as training will be provided. (Salary Manager, SIMS)

 Ability to work independently and under the direction of the Headteacher and Senior Management Team.


 Appreciation of the importance of the role of the face of the school and projecting the school ethos.

 Ability to interact with all people, both directly, on the telephone and in all written communications. Be comfortable working with a variety of people at different levels, e.g. children, parents, staff and governors. Previous experience of working with young people is desirable.

 Well organised, efficient and self-motivated.  Experience of Health & Safety legislation.  Experience of Inventory upkeep.  Ability to provide overall management of the school office, including the supervision and allocation of duties of other office staff. Management of all office work loads to meet deadlines whilst ensuring that lower priority work is kept up to date.

 Positive and adaptable team player.  Good communication and interpersonal skills.  Comfortable working in a busy and visible environment, sharing a school office.

 Ability to cope with challenging and conflicting demands, deadlines and interruptions.

 Ability to work under pressure whilst prioriterising own workload.  A sense of humour.  Interested in continuing professional development. Other Factors

 Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children in accordance with safeguarding practice.
