Flexible Work
at the BSN
What is Flex Work? Flexible workers play an integral part in the BSN community and contribute to the school’s success. Staff on our ‘Flex Register’ will usually be called for a specific role. These roles are divided into two groups: • Teaching staff - this includes not only teachers but also Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants; • Support staff and non-teaching staff, such as student supervisors, office staff, concierges and exam invigilators. Our schools and offices arrange cover for the different campuses in the instance of staff absence, for example, staff training days or school trips. Naturally, not all cover can be preempted; therefore a level of flexibility is much appreciated when it comes to working days, locations and short notice requests.
Where The BSN has four locations: three Junior Schools based in and around The Hague as well as one Senior School in Voorschoten. There are around 175 staff members on the BSN Flex Register to date. We have various groups of flexible working staff specialised in their own unique field, such as language lessons (BSN Language Centre) and oneto-one music lessons (on all campuses). We have around 2300 students and around 500 fixed contract staff divided over each of the four campuses.
“Never have I come across
so much diversity in my role as a flex worker. There are over 80 different nationalities, yet we all feel a sense of belonging within the school”
