WE ASKED OUR STAFF TO LET US IN ON THEIR FAVOURITE THINGS ABOUT LIVING AND WORKING IN THE NETHERLANDS
THE BSN GUIDE TO ENJOYING LIFE IN THE NETHERANDS
Even though we’re far from a tropical destination, one thing our contributors say they love about living in the Netherlands is the changing seasons, and the many opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy them. The Dutch landscape offers a bit of everything: from dunes and beaches to forest, picturesque farmland and yes, we even have a mountain (the Vaalserberg stands at a staggering 322.4m).
OUR ADVICE IS SIMPLE: DO WHAT THE DUTCH DO, GRAB A BICYCLE AND HEAD OUT FOR SOME EXPLORATION.
BICYCLES Cycling is a way of life in Netherlands. 1/3 of Dutch people say they use their bicycle as their primary mode of transport. From cycling to work to renting OV-fiets (public transportation bikes) and exploring new cities, cycling is a healthy and lowcost way to get around.
BEACHES The Netherlands has many kilometers of coast, dunes and beaches for nature lovers and sport enthusiasts alike. For those in the Hague, the beach is only 5km from the city centre.

GREEN SPACES Our staff say they love the green spaces and parks in many Dutch cities. You're never too far from some trees and fresh air. Take advantage of the many places for children to play, and paths to walk your dog or head out on a run.
DAY TRIPS A break from the city is never far away. Both the Veluwe and the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserves are easily accessible day trips from major Dutch cities. For the famous tulip fields, a trip to the Keukenhof in South Holland is a must.
The Netherlands is small enough that no matter where you live, many beautiful, historical and dynamic cities are within reach, Taking day or weekend trips to explore cities both locally and within neighbouring countries comes highly recommended by our staff. And when there's simply no place like home - the UK and most of continental Europe is a short flight away!

IN THE HEART OF IT ALL
Rotterdam, The Hague, Amsterdam and Utrecht make up a metropolitan area called the Randstad, and are all quite close to one another. From any of these places, both major cities and quaint towns are just a short train ride away.
WEEKEND AWAY Europe is at your doorstep in the Netherlands! Our contributors suggest heading out on weekends away to destinations in Germany, Belgium, France and beyond (all a short flight from Amsterdam). London is also just 1-1/2 hours away,.
CULTURE
TERRASJES
From museums to live theatre, international concert tours, intimate music venues, historic sites and everything in between, culture lovers won't be at a loss for things to do and see.
The best way to enjoy a historic city centre or canal-side view is from an outdoor cafe (lovingly known to locals are terrasjes). Most come equipped with heaters and blankets, so you can enjoy the cosy atmosphere in all seasons.
JOINING THE BSN'S OUTSTANDING TEACHING STAFF IS MORE THAN STARTING A NEW JOB - IT'S LIFE CHANGING.
