DIONE BOWLDING

Dione Bowlding is a graduate of Bowie State University class of 1978, member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., and a member of the BSU Sports Hall Of Fame.

Dione is married to Cecelia Elaine-Jones Bowlding, a BSU graduate; they have 3 sons; 2 are also proud graduates of BSU.

Dione has 5 grandsons, the oldest is currently enrolled as a freshman here at BSU and a member of the SOS Band.

Dione has over 25 years of experience in the fitness business as a Certified Personal Trainer and has helped many in the DMV to achieve their health and fitness goals.

Dione is the Instructor for the BSU Commit to Fit Program here at BSU on Tuesday and Thursdays from 3pm to 5pm. His fitness motto Is "Motivation is what got me started. Habit is what keeps me going. I believe in myself, which is the first step to success."

ANGELA MORTON

Angela Morton is a distinguished financial leader and community advocate from Salisbury, Maryland. Holding a B.S. in Accounting from Salisbury University and an MBA from Wilmington University, she currently serves as Assistant Budget Director at Bowie State University and chairs its Women’s Forum. Angela's passion for community service shines through her roles at Mills Memorial Baptist Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. ® She founded Faith Over Fear Economic Empowerment Inc.,® supporting minority businesses, and operates Relax About Tax LLC, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit. Angela's work embodies a commitment to education, fiscal responsibility, and community empowerment.

JOHNETTA HARDY

Johnetta is a trailblazer in entrepreneurship with over 25 years of experience, currently leading as the founding Executive Director of Bowie State University's Entrepreneurship Innovation Center and the visionary behind the esteemed HBCU+ Entrepreneurship Conference. With a dynamic background of launching four companies and mentoring over 3,000 businesses, her impact on the field is undeniable. Her thought leadership extends through notable publications, including "The Black Experience" and "Navigating Higher Education through a Virtual World," enriching the "Annals of Entrepreneurship Education and Pedagogy." A respected member of the Global Consortium for Entrepreneurship Centers, Johnetta drives innovation forward. Her educational background from Harvard and Howard University, along with her active engagement in Alpha Kappa Alpha, underlines her deep commitment to excellence, innovation, and community service.

BRAVE WILLIAMS

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Brave Williams defies expectations as she transitions from music & entertainment to the fitness industry. Her journey has always been guided by her passion to inspire and uplift others. From signing her first record deal and opening for Beyonce, touring 36 cities to landing leading roles in Netflix's “Love Dot Com” and BET's “The Christmas Lottery.” But, through it all, her love of fitness has never wavered. She has transformed over 1,000 clients and is the lead boot camp trainer for the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation. Her desire to change lives & build her legacy led her to the world of franchising where she penned a 23-location development deal with Workout Anytime. Williams is slated to open these 23 locations over the next few years, with one 10,000-square-foot, stateof-the-art facility already booming in Lanham, MD, and a second location under construction in Manassas, VA.

LAUREN KELLY

Lauren Kelly is a visionary entrepreneur, junior and marketing major at Bowie State University. She's the dynamo behind "The TrillestDollhouse," a trailblazing mobile loc shop in Baltimore's vibrant heart. Fueled by a mission to uplift her community, Lauren blends innovative business practices with a deep passion for empowerment. Her unwavering dedication and transformative leadership illuminate the entrepreneurial scene, positioning her as a beacon of change and a symbol of youthful innovation.

JANEULA M. BURT, PH.D

Janeula M. Burt, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the College of Professional Studies Department of Psychology at Bowie State University, where she teaches educational psychology, research methods, and quantitative and qualitative research. From 2014-19, Dr. Burt conceptualized and served as the Co-Principal Investigator of the Culturally Responsive Educational Leaders in Special Education (CRELSE) grant ($1.2), (U. S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs). Dr. Burt also served lead researcher and Co-PI for a $50,000 Spencer Foundation Grant (Education and Social Opportunity) which explored the educational opportunities for rural African American students.

Dr. Burt began her research trajectory as an AERA/Spencer PreDissertation Fellow, as a doctoral candidate at Auburn University. Dr. Burt served as the Chair of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Special Interest Group – Research Focus on Black Education (RFBE) and the American Association for Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) National Standing Committee on Research and Dissemination, and the National Association of Holmes Scholars Alumni (NAHSA).

JANEULA M. BURT, PH.D

Dr. Burt currently serves as one of the Co-Chairs of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee at Bowie State University, where she developed an institutional instrument to assess DEI on an HBCU campus. She also serves as an educational research evaluator and consultant with professional expertise in quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation methods; educational psychology; educational policy; student development; education reform; program development and implementation; parental engagement; science, technology, engineering, and engineering (STEM); teacher preparation and professional development; educational opportunities for rural African American children; and survey design, development, and analysis.

Dr. Burt has served as an education policy research analyst for the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), and from 2009-11, and was a Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Policy at Howard University. In 199798,

MAJOR GENERAL JANEEN L. BIRCKHEAD

Major General Janeen L. Birckhead is the 31st Adjutant General of the Maryland National Guard. In this capacity, Maj. Gen. Birckhead serves as military advisor to the Governor of Maryland, leading a force of more than 6,300 Soldiers, Airmen, and federal and state civilian employees. The Maryland National Guard provides a highly trained force ready to respond to domestic emergencies, natural disasters, and defend the United States and its global interests.

Maj. Gen. Birckhead has commanded Army units at the company, battalion, and brigade levels. Before her current role, Maj. Gen. Birckhead served as Commander of the Maryland Army National Guard and the Deputy Commandant for Reserve Affairs at the U.S. Army War College. Under her leadership, the Maryland Army National Guard-led Vaccine Equity Task Force ensured COVID-19 testing vaccination access to vulnerable populations across Maryland. Later, Maj. Gen. Birckhead commanded more than 15,000 National Guard members from across the nation during the National Guard mission to secure the U.S. Capitol following the events of January 6, 2021. During her command, the Maryland Army National Guard deployed dozens of units and hundreds of Soldiers to defend the United States at home and abroad.

In 2004, Maj. Gen. Birckhead mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as Tiger Team Leader and Designated Military Officer for the Office of Administrative Review for the Detention of Enemy Combatants. In 2011, she deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan, and served as the NATO International Security Assistance Force deputy current operations officer for security partnering.

Maj. Gen. Birckhead's military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the NATO Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

MAJOR GENERA JANEEN L. BIRCKHEAD

Maj. Gen. Birckhead graduated with honors with science from Hampton University and earned he distinguished military graduate through the Reserve Officers Training Corps. She later completed an M.A. in management from the University of Maryland University College and a master’s in strategic studies at the U.S. Army War College.

In her civilian career, Maj. Gen. Birckhead began as an aide in the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C. She later served as a state equal employment opportunity manager, Special Agent in Charge for the Defense Security Service, and Deputy Chief of Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights at the Office of Personnel Management, before joining the Department of the Interior. There, Maj. Gen. Birckhead served as a senior advisor for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Trust Fund Administration, advising the bureau director on various issues related to the organization’s personnel, management policies, and organizational culture. ” When not serving in her official capacity, you may find her supporting flag placement at Veterans Cemetery with her two children on Veterans and Memorial Day, supporting the Salvation Army as a Bell Ringer for the Red Kettle Campaign or participating in veterans outreach, fundraising, food distribution, and support to Women Veterans Initiatives. She is a life member of the American Legion Post 166 and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Maj. Gen. Birckhead is a married mother and two and a native of Maryland’s eastern shore. During her formative years on the shore, she was raised by her father, a Navy veteran, and her mother, a community leader and organizer who served as a Judge of the Worcester County Orphan’s Court.

MICHELE F. RICHARDSON, M.DIV., TH.M., MBA

Director, Henry Wise Wellness Center at Bowie State University

Michele is a career administrator with more than 13 years of experience in Higher Education. In addition to her work in higher education, Michele has worked in local government and private industry for a career spanning just over 30 years. Michele is an administrative generalist, consultant, speaker and business strategist who has worked in the Health & Wellness space for 8-1/2 years with seven of those years being in a Director role. Michele believes that there are countless influences and impacts to individual wellness and well-being. She subscribes to the philosophical foundation of the 8 Dimensions of Wellness to guide her work. Michele champion’s whole-person, holistic approaches to creating nurturing environments. Her focus on intra-organizational collaboration and community partnerships is motivated by her desire to see others not only succeed, but thrive. This applies to and extends to student retention and success, employee wellness and well-being, and the caring, compassionate, and empathic treatment of humans in general.
