Annual Report 2017 / 2018

Blessed Trinity Catholic High School

Blessed Trinity Catholic High School exists to provide a nurturing educational environment that transforms lives in Christ, integrating spiritual formation, academic excellence, artistic sensibility, and athletic achievement.

From the Principal Dear Blessed Trinity Families and Friends, I want to sincerely thank you for all you do for Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. It is because of your generosity that we were able to once again upgrade our facilities over the summer. It is a priority that we keep our buildings and campus operating safely and efficiently, and your financial support allows us to do that. Furthermore, your donations to our Annual Fund enable us to continue to improve our program offerings to better serve our students’ needs. The transformations of our Media Center into a Learning Commons and a storage facility into a STEAM Lab last summer have greatly improved learning for our students and their preparedness for college. Our new intercom system will enhance communication between our three buildings as well as between the classrooms and the main office, thus greatly improving our security. These are just a few examples of what your generous financial contributions are doing for our school and ultimately for our students. We are constantly striving to provide our students with the best Catholic education we are capable of offering. We continue to emphasize our Catholic identity, our academic rigor and support, and our extensive program offerings in both the fine arts and athletics, while continuing to promote service-learning and providing an outstanding guidance program. Blessed Trinity has grown significantly over the years in terms of enrollment, Catholic identity, academic offerings, college scholarship dollars earned, Fine Arts annual performances, and athletic championships. Much of our growth is due to the generosity of alumni parents, alumni, and current parents. Yet, there are still several more needs that must be addressed in the next few years. Therefore, I invite you to please read through this report and recognize how so many people have contributed financially to help make Blessed Trinity Catholic High School one of the best Catholic high schools in the country. Also, I ask that you please prayerfully consider a tax-deductible donation to the Annual Fund. Unfortunately, tuition dollars do not cover the total cost to educate a child. The Annual Fund is truly necessary to make every child’s educational experience significantly better in the present and in the future. I pray that you will strongly consider contributing to the Annual Fund again or for the first time this year. May God bless you for all you do for Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. Sincerely,

Mr. Brian Marks President

From the Advancement Director Dear Blessed Trinity Supporters: We want to thank and recognize all those who helped make the 2017-2018 school year such a financial success. Your contributions helped to fund many needs at Blessed Trinity which President Marks detailed in his letter.‌.. Thank you. Also in this Annual Report is a complete list of all donors who contributed to Blessed Trinity last year. Overall, almost 70% of the families with students at Blessed Trinity made a donation and if you were one of those, we want to thank you. Giving from our Alumni and Alumni families continues to grow and we are most grateful for their continued support. As Principal Marks stated in his letter, if your name does not appear, we would ask that this year you prayerfully consider a donation of some amount to help Blessed Trinity stay at the forefront in a very competitive educational market. Last year, 97% of the Faculty and Staff made contributions to the Annual Fund. No one understands the need for these additional funds better than our faculty and staff in terms of having all the resources they need to provide our students the best education possible. Overall giving to Blessed Trinity last year was $831,005. Unrestricted donations to the Annual Fund were $392,443. If you are considering a gift this year, this is the area where your dollars can have the most impact as they can be used for any needs of the school. The Auction Gala saw an increase of 38% to $325,661 and once again there was a record crowd of over 450 attendees. The Auction continues to be a fantastic community building event in addition to the funds raised. We would like to thank Tricia Navarro, the auction chair, as well as her army of volunteers for making this happen. In January, Blessed Trinity held its first ever Day of Giving as a part of the NCEA Day of Giving. More than $26,000 was raised to purchase a new screen and projector system for the gym and Blessed Trinity finished as the number one school in the country in terms of funds raised. Once again, we want to thank everyone who helped make school year 2017 - 2018 such a success. From our faculty and staff, to our current families, alumni families, alumni, grandparents and corporate supporters, THANK YOU. Our ability to provide all the resources the students need to achieve their dreams is only limited by your willingness to support us through your generosity.

In Christ,

Chuck Oliver Director of Institutional Advancement

Integrating Spiri Kathleen O’Donnell

Blessed Trinity is a very important place to me. It’s not only where your friends are, your faith grows, and your talents mature, but it is also a place where you grow up. We all grow up together at BT. We grow up in a family with values and traditions. The Catholic faith is one of the most important things to me, and BT has helped me to grow in my faith tremendously. Through the simple prayers in each class, the devotions on the daily announcements, and the student led Bible Study, Ignite, students are able to and encouraged to mature in their spiritual journey with the Lord. The religion teachers are especially instrumental in this manner. My confirmation sponsor was in fact my religion teacher from freshman year. He taught with such a joyful and loving passion for Jesus, and his faith is evident everywhere he goes.

Class of 2019

I love Blessed Trinity for a number of reasons, but the real reason that I’m here is because of my faith. I went to a Christian elementary school because I didn’t get into the Catholic schools when I was younger. My parents are very religious people, and they wanted my sister and I to attend a Catholic high school. Out of the blue, my parents found out about openings at Holy Redeemer Catholic School. I switched schools in the middle of sixth grade which was very difficult, but those few tough weeks of being the “new kid” were worth being able to attend such a wonderful school as Blessed Trinity. Being able to attend Mass and participate in the sacraments with my friends is something that is so special to me, and the bonds and joys that I have celebrated here at BT will be cherished for many years to come. I can’t imagine going to another school other than Blessed Trinity, and it is such a privilege to be able to celebrate my faith with my teachers and friends here at school.

4

itual Formation My family has always prioritized our Catholic faith, taught me to follow the teachings of the Church, to practice the Sacraments faithfully, and stressed that my faith should always guide me and be present in everything I do.

Vincent Baker Class of 2019

The thing I like most about Blessed Trinity is that it is a community where the Catholic faith is present in all that goes on in the academics, athletics, the arts, all extracurriculars, and throughout the spirtual life of the school. While Blessed Trinity has top notch academics which have prepared me well for college and a future career, and stellar athletic programs which I have loved being a part of since I was in 3rd grade, above all, Blessed Trinity is a place where I am not only encouraged but also challenged to grow in my faith and to imitate Christ daily through the spiritual life focus of the school. I have been an Altar Server in my parish since 6th grade, and so I have enjoyed the opportunity to continue to be an Altar Server at all BT School Masses. I have also enjoyed performing service to others in need as part of practicing the Works of Mercy and spreading the Gospel through these works that are a core part of being a faithful Catholic. These are the things I like most about the spiritual life of Blessed Trinity.

Academic

Belinda: Blessed Trinity Catholic High School is a community you can call

home. It is one of the best places to go to school. Ranging from being in theater, to being in robotics, or to being in a sport like football or cross country, Blessed Trinity is truly a home for everyone. Blessed Trinity provides students with academics that are essential for a student to thrive. The main reason that my sister and I chose Blessed Trinity was because of the rigorous classes that will prepare the students for college. Every student has a variety of courses from which to choose. You can always count on BT to meet the needs of your child to succeed. The excellence of BT´s education helped students such as our sister, Agnes Kumi, get accepted into prestigious colleges such as Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth and Georgia Tech. I believe with hard work I will have the same opportunities. I would define Blessed Trinity Catholic High School as an exemplary college preparatory school, and to me it is a chance to ensure a prosperous future.

Bernadine: After attending public school all our lives, my twin sister and I wanted a high school that offered

a spiritual, moral, and excellent educational environment. It is truly a great honor for us to attend Blessed Trinity Catholic High School, which has very rigorous academic standards and a religious environment that will help us become well-rounded individuals. It’s also a privilege for us to be part of a school community with strict disciplinary policies and high academic standards. BT is one of the best schools in the nation, providing a haven for all talents to thrive and excel. With classes ranging from theater to robotics, and sports (like football or cross country), BT is truly a home for everyone who wants to learn. The clubs at BT also allow students to meet new people and share their talents for the advancement of the school. Blessed Trinity is giving us the chance-of-a-lifetime opportunity to grow and become better well-rounded students to meet the challenges of an ever-changing and challenging future in this growing economic, social, and dynamic world.

Excellence

James Mancini Class of 2019

The day-to-day routine of waking up early and driving to school can sometimes become monotonous, but as I go to each of my classes I am increasingly excited by the new material or thrilling discussions. In very different classes, such as physics, acting, or government, I will have in-depth conversations that excite me about things like freedom or the integral of an acceleration graph. What amazes me about Blessed Trinity is the dedication and significance that both the students and teachers give in all areas of learning to become well-rounded, hard-working individuals. The academics of Blessed Trinity provides the students with the tools to succeed not just in college, but also in life. We can pursue any goal or job we set our minds to. The curriculum, as well at the AB block schedule, encourages learning in all subjects, including arts and business. The academics alone do not point to Blessed Trinity’s excellence. Blessed Trinity’s excellence comes from the dedication and support of the teachers and students. Even my freshman year, I stayed multiple hours after school to work on a robotics program with my teacher. The past several years I have spent countless hours with my teachers, whether it be history, chemistry, or calculus, who all selflessly give so much of their time to helping us grow and understand the information. The faculty encourage the students to find passion in the material, and they genuinely want the best for us. Ultimately, Blessed Trinity has become a significant part of my identity because it has encouraged me to work hard and find passion in all aspects of my life. With cross country, I spend at least 50 hours each week at Blessed Trinity, so Blessed Trinity is very important to me. I know that I can succeed in life as a result of this school’s impact on my life.

Artistic One of my favorite parts of this school is the Fine Arts program and all that it has to offer. Whether it is visual arts, music, or theater, the Blessed Trinity Fine Arts program gives a multitude of priceless opportunities to expand our artistic sides. I participate in the Blessed Trinity Concert Choir and every day I look forward to coming to chorus class because it allows me to express myself in a way that isn’t possible in other classes. The opportunity to sing with others and create beautiful music is such an amazing experience. I also participate in Mass Choir where we glorify God through our voices. It is amazing and truly allows us to have a special interaction with Him. I have also participated in the theater aspect of the Blessed Trinity Fine Arts program through the Breakthrough summer camp. Previously, I had only been involved in one school play. This program allowed me to rediscover my passion for acting. It was a truly rich experience that allowed us to expand our singing, dancing, and acting capabilities in a group of people who shared our interests. The Breakthrough camp allowed me to expand my fine arts capabilities and try many new things. The Blessed Trinity Fine Arts program is something I am so thankful to be a part of, and Blessed Trinity is truly blessed to have it.

Sensibility

Emma Bulthuis Class of 2019

I have been active in both visual and performing arts since I began attending Blessed Trinity in 2015. Blessed Trinity’s Fine Art Program provides an outlet for my creativity to flourish. Because the school celebrates artistic sensibility, I have always felt supported in all of my artistic endeavours, whether it be on the stage, or behind the easel. I am currently taking AP Studio Art, a full year art course that I am especially excited about because I am not only learning how to hone my craft, but I am also learning to explore working with different mediums and subject matters independently. I am forever grateful for the guidance I have received from the fine arts instructors at Blessed Trinity on my journey to discovering my own unique artistic style and I am encouraged by all of the fresh faces that are just beginning their own journey.

Athletic

Alex Poma Class of 2019

To me, being a Blessed Trinity athlete provides a sense of pride and accomplishment. Whether it’s a game or a practice, every day, putting on the green and gold means being part of something more. Being able to play the sports I love while representing the school I love is truly something special. It means a ton to me that I get to integrate my faith with the three sports that I enjoy playing. Football rolls over into wrestling, which rolls over into lacrosse, it’s non-stop. That non-stop lifestyle makes me feel like I’m well prepared to become a collegiate athlete next year. Playing three sports in high school has taught me discipline, work ethic and teamwork, all things I will use later in life. All together, getting to play the sports I love while representing my school and faith means a lot to me.

Achievement As I walked through the hallways of this amazing school on my first day of freshman year, I knew that this place would be home for the next four years. The people, the teachers, and coaches are here to support their students, which is quite amazing and I am so glad I get to attend a school like this. I moved to Georgia in the middle of summer before my freshman year and I was worried how I would fit into Blessed Trinity. Fast forward four years later, my senior year, and it makes me remember all the great memories this school was able to give me. One of my favorite memories will be being a part of the girls varsity basketball team. I was honored to be one of the two freshmen to make varsity my freshman year and even had the privilege to start every varsity high school game I have played since. Basketball has always been my safe place and Blessed Trinity provides an amazing basketball court where I get to play the sport I have been passionate about since I was four years old. Being a part of the Blessed Trinity Girls Basketball Program has been an amazing experience during these last few years because I have met some of my best friends through this program and we all love and respect each other like family. I am also grateful for the four coaches I have because they dedicate all their time to my teammates and me during the winter for us to work hard and get better at a sport we love. My teammates and coaches have the utmost respect for each other and I am forever grateful for each person within the program. During my sophomore year and at the beginning of the basketball season, I was diagnosed with alopecia areata, an autoimmune skin disease, and my teammates and coaches were very supportive. Blessed Trinity and my basketball “family always reminded me that they were always there for me during this difficult time and showed me nothing but love and support. While I was scared to physically show the conditions of my hair in public, basketball was always an outlet for me to be myself. BT, my teammates and the coaches in this program were always so kind and encouraging and I do not think I would be the person I am without them. Playing basketball for Blessed Trinity will always be the number one memory I have about high school because this school has done so much for my teammates and me. We have had the privilege to practice and play on our home court, receive new uniforms and warm-ups, and work hard every day in the winter. Along with basketball and all other athletic programs, Blessed Trinity will always support their athletes and I thank God every day that I am blessed with the opportunity to be a part of this school’s wonderful athletic program.

GRACE Scholars Program Blessed Trinity Catholic High School participates in the G.R.A.C.E. Scholars program, a state-approved Student Scholarship Organization (SSO) established by the Archdiocese of Atlanta. In 2008, the state of Georgia passed legislation which allows Georgia residents to re-direct a portion of their state income taxes to a private school of their choice for use in providing financial aid to students coming from public schools. The students must qualify for the financial aid based on need. Last year, 229 participants in the G.R.A.C.E. program selected Blessed Trinity as the recipient of their funds. As a result, Blessed Trinity received approximately $264,330 and was able to provide financial aid to 100% of all new students who qualified. These students will continue to receive financial aid through G.R.A.C.E. for the next four years provided they continue to qualify. Because these funds came from G.R.A.C.E., it allowed regularly budgeted financial aid dollars to go farther in supporting the financial needs of the students coming from our Catholic feeder schools and other private schools. This past year, the funds approved by the state were exhausted on January 1. All of the BT participants were able to take advantage of the “Early Bird” registration provided by G.R.A.C.E. Applications are now being accepted on-line (www.gracescholars.org) for the 2019 tax year. We encourage everyone in the BT community to take advantage of this opportunity as soon as possible, and want to thank the following families who chose to participate in the G.R.A.C.E. Scholars program; we hope they will continue to choose G.R.A.C.E. as part of their tax planning strategy for years to come.

Ways To Give Each and every gift that is given to Blessed Trinity Catholic High School, regardless of the amount, holds an immeasurable level of importance to the school. All gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Careful planning of your gift cannot only help to maximize the gift that you make to the school, but also your personal goals, as well. Legal and financial advisors can best help you determine the type of gift most advantageous and appropriate for you to make. There are several opportunities for faculty and staff, alumni, parents, and friends to financially support our school. ANNUAL FUND - The Annual Fund is the most important fundraising effort each school year. At BT, tuition revenues cover the basic operations of the school. Additional requested budget items can only be funded through a successful Annual Fund campaign. Each year, there is a gap between revenues from tuition and the amount needed to fund the entire school budget. Our goal is to have 100% participation in the Annual Fund from our faculty, staff and parent community, regardless of the amount you are able to contribute. Please help to increase our overall participation rate by making a contribution. AUCTION GALA - The Annual Auction Gala, held in March, is the single-largest fundraising event for the school. In order to have a successful Auction Gala, we need volunteers, donated items, sponsorships and attendees. To learn more on getting involved in the Auction, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement. FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION - Different levels of membership are available for the BT Fine Arts Association. Each membership has its own set of benefits, including tickets and apparel. All proceeds help pay the expenses for the school’s arts program. ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION - Different levels of membership are available for the BT Athletic Association. Each membership has its own set of benefits, including tickets and apparel. All proceeds help pay the expenses of the school’s athletic program. FUNDRAISING PROGRAMS & EVENTS - The Office of Institutional Advancement raises additional funds for the school through partnering with select merchants, the BT Fine Arts Association, and the BT Athletic Association. SCHOLARSHIPS & ENDOWMENTS - The school has several endowed scholarships, awards, and funds. Only the interest of these gifts is awarded each year. With the principal’s approval, donors may contribute any amount to an existing endowment, or endow a scholarship of their own with a minimum gift of $25,000.

There are many different methods that donors may choose to fund their gift: Monetary - Your gifts provide immediate tax savings through deductions and provides the school with funds for current use. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are all accepted. Securities - Some donors choose to transfer stock to BT as their gift each year. Contact the Office of Institutional Advancement to make these arrangements. Matching Gifts - A matching gift is when an employer will match the charitable contribution made by an employee or the spouse of an employee. This can multiply your gift to the school by simply completing the appropriate form from your company. Check with your Human Resources Department about their matching gifts policies and procedures. Gifts in Kind - These non-cash gifts include items that the school needs and uses including, but not limited to, furniture, office supplies, or printing services. Planned Gifts - The most common planned gift is when a donor leaves a gift to the school as part of a will. Other planned gifts include life insurance, charitable remainder trusts, and annuity trusts. Establish a Scholarship or Endowment - The school has ten endowed scholarships: Goizueta Foundation, Robert White/UPS, Jessica Turner Memorial, Kevin Mann Memorial, Devon McKniff Memorial, 1st Lt. Scott Joseph Fleming Memorial, Jeff and Jeannie Stokes Family, Elizabeth Huffner Memorial, St. Joseph Scholarship, and the Founder’s Endowed Scholarship. Donors may endow a scholarship of their own for a minimum gift of $25,000.

If you would like to learn more about ways to give, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement.
