BTC Watches celebrated the launch of “The Martian” movie in Egyptian theaters with a huge event for Hamilton. Every second counts and time means survival, so the obvious timepiece chosen to fit such a challenging role is the military-inspired Hamilton BeLOWZERO. The event was attended by enormous number of BTC clients and VIPs exceeding 600 persons. Guests were impressed with Hamilton’s endorsement which was smartly aligned with the movie’s story board. Neither entirely a movement nor exactly a case – or rather both at once: introducing the Altiplano 38 mm 900P, the world’s thinnest mechanical watch. Merging the hand-wound calibre with the case elements, it is designed as a single entity in order to achieve record-breaking slenderness at just 3.65 mm thin. Representing a crowning achievement in over half a century of virtuoso skills displayed in the realm of ultra-thin watchmaking where Piaget reigns supreme, it conveys the excellence of the two integrated Manufactures run by the Maison. Places where the skills of the watchmakers, case constructors and designers converge in giving life to this masterpiece of reliability and precision. 2014 is a vintage year for Piaget! The Maison is celebrating its 140th anniversary and marks the occasion by launching a model that is set to defy the conventions of ultra-thin Fine Watchmaking for many years to come: the Altiplano 38 mm 900P. While clearly geared towards cutting-edge innovation, it is also a nod to history, since it gets the 900P part of its name from Calibre 9P, which was the first ultra-thin hand-wound movement made by Piaget in 1957. That particular mechanism measured just 2 mm thin and sealed Piaget’s destiny in the field of ultra-thin horology. By 1960, Piaget was ready to set a first record with its Calibre 12P, the world’s thinnest automatic movement at just 2.3 mm. The following years witnessed a spate of new slimness records in the fields of hand-wound and automatic models, with or without horological complications – like Calibre 600P, the world’s thinnest hand-wound shaped tourbillon movement; and 1208P, an automatic movement that is also the thinnest in its category, to mention just a couple of these feats.

For the very first time, this emblematic line from the Manufacture welcomes a major complication, a newcomer to the range of 37 Piaget in house movements and one that is cherished by all authentic Haute Horlogerie connoisseurs: the hand-wound chronograph. While this fine watchmaking classic is generally reserved for timepieces featuring traditional lines, the Manufacture Piaget has opted to house it in a case displaying a slender, understated and contemporary design. With its 25 ultra-thin movements holding 14 world records for their thinness, Piaget is a past master in the art of extreme thinness, as through this new 883P hand-wound chronograph calibre it once again demonstrates peerless expertise in the development of ultra-thin movements endowed with major complications. Traveller Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT LARGE DATE AND MOON PHASES With its perfect balance of technical expertise and classical elegance, the Girard-Perregaux 1966 collection brings together all the qualities of a fine timepiece, the cornerstone of the Manufacture. The combination of finesse and superlative watchmaking is clearly seen in this new model that, for the first time, features both large date and moon phases functions.
This new creation fits perfectly into the Manufacture’s long tradition of expertise, paying tribute to the 1960s when the technical and timekeeping innovations developed by Girard-Perregaux were awarded the Neuchâtel Observatory Centenary Prize. The pioneering watchmaker was one of the first to have its own Research & Development department, and in 1966 it introduced the first high-frequency movement that gave its watches an exceptional level of precision. Today, the 1966 collection continues the legacy of integrating useful complications in classical watches known for their aesthetic simplicity and impeccable finish. The case, with a diameter of 41mm, incorporates a slightly domed crystal and a polished, diamond-effect bezel elegantly inclined as part of its refined design. For optimal comfort on the wrist, the horns are also curved, giving the case a pure flowing line. The 1966 collection is enhanced with a moon phases indicator that is particularly beautiful. Linked to the barrel, this function is a wonderful example of Girard-Perregaux expertise.

The curved dial is a marvel with applied baton-type markers and curved, polished leaf-shaped hands. This special design is both contemporary and classic - a distinguishing feature of the 1966 collection. The small seconds hand is centred on the moon phases indicator, in the purest watchmaking tradition. The sapphire caseback reveals the movement composed of 290 parts, including its oscillating weight decorated with Côtes de Genève. Sophisticated finishing is a specialty of Girard-Perregaux. This collection is available in white or pink gold, on an alligator leather strap that highlights its timeless character inspired by the Manufacture’s heritage that spans more than two centuries.
For the first time the emblematic Traveller Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT watch features a transparent dial. Available in either classy stainless steel or an elegant pink gold version, this new Traveller model displays both a strong character and high degree of sophistication. A watch of great technical efficiency, its case houses an automatic mechanical movement manufactured in-house by Girard-Perregaux and notably offering large date, second time zone, moon phase and small second functions.
This latest creation from Girard-Perregaux features three watch complications housed in a case with contemporary dimensions and a 44 mm diameter, and available in either stainless steel or pink gold.For the first time in the Traveller collection, the metallic gray sapphire dial subtly reveals its finest display at 12 o’clock, in the form of the large date mechanism. This mechanism is the subject of an exclusive Girard-Perregaux patent. It is a sophisticated device made up of two superimposed disks incorporated into the GP03300 automatic caliber. The juxtaposition of the disks, one of which has pieces made of transparent folanorm with a thickness of only 0.10 mm, ensures an aesthetically perfect display in which there is no visible separation between the two disks. The most outstanding of these complications, the moon phase indication, is both realistic and extremely poetic, and is perfectly represented by an impressive metallic treatment. A further subtle detail of this model is that the moon phase indication is directly attached to the barrel, thus allowing for a very high degree of accuracy. Adjusted by a corrector button situated at 8 o’clock, it is surrounded by a circular satin-brushed ring and features a small second hand at its center. The most observant may note that the Milky Way even mischievously conceals the brand’s logo with one of its stars! Available with an alligator skin strap, this new model is attached to the wrist by a folding clasp that is a perfect combination of elegance and sportiness. 21

Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 Flying Tourbillon Designed in the nineteenth century as a mechanism to improve timekeeping, the tourbillon is today the embodiment of Swiss micro-mechanical ingenuity, and arguably the most prestigious complication in watchmaking. But the tourbillon is so precious that it is a treasure only admired on occasion. Corum conceived the Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 Flying Tourbillon to turn conventional wisdom on its head. Finely crafted haute horlogerie, yet robust and practical, the Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 Flying Tourbillon was crafted as a masterpiece for the wrist. Put simply, it was designed to be strapped on and enjoyed – every single day. With a tourbillon carriage mounted on enlarged ceramic ball bearings for resilience, the movement has the bridge and base plate machined from brass. With the base plate and bridge terminating at four and eight o’clock on both sides of the movement, the tourbillon appears to be suspended in mid-air. But it is actually tethered to the movement by the two slender steel arms that are part of the bridge. From the rear, the view through the sapphire display back is equally panoramic. Instead of a conventional full rotor that would impede the view of the tourbillon, the caliber CO 016 is equipped with a micro-rotor decorated with the Corum logo in 18k red gold.

A TIMELESS ICON Launched at the end of 1999, the B.zero1’s radical, industrial design fuses two hallmarks of the Bulgari iconography, the Tubogas motif and the distinctive BVLGARI logo. The BVLGARI logo instead harks to its debut in 1934 when the iconic font was introduced for the revamping of the flagship via Condotti store in Rome.
