A Limited Edition Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Monaco delights the yachting world. Introducing a commemorative timepiece that encapsulates the spirit of innovation and independence that have driven Ulysse Nardin forward for over 170 years. With a nautical history as profound as the oceans, the timekeep-ing instruments of the Swiss watchmaker have been guiding sailors with exact precision for many a decade. It seems a natural extension of that history for the manufacture to become official sponsor of the Monaco Yacht Show, an honor it has held for the last eight years. Ulysse Nardin pays tribute to this high point in the yachting calendar with a Limited Edition Diver Chronograph Monaco. Clothed in the smart red and blue shared by other Monaco Limited Edition timepieces, the Diver Chronograph commemorates the event with a minute counter showing the heraldic pattern of the Principality of Monaco, also present on the sapphire crystal case back. Monaco Yacht Show 2016 is written on the blue dial, while the indexes and hands show the colors of the Monaco flag. The deep connection Ulysse Nardin has with the sea is present in every aspect of this highly collectible timepiece, of which only 100 stainless steel pieces have been made. A fully functional diver, as well as a precision chrono-graph, it is ready for anything the ocean can throw at it, making it an ideal timepiece sailors and all those who love the sea. The Diver Chronograph Monaco holds a self-winding movement: the inhouse designed Caliber UN-150 with its silicium escapement. Seconds hand in the center, small seconds at 9 o’clock, 30 minutes at 3 o’clock, 12 hour counter and a round date window at 6 o’clock offer complete chronograph timekeeping. The diving DNA is revealed as much by the watch’s oversized 44mm case as its unidirectional diving bezel - a security measure to prevent accidental changes to the dive time. The outside of the rotating bezel is fluted, as if to echo the wave motif etched in rubber on the stainless steel. Rubber coats of the screw-down security crown too, ensuring grip and an exceptional water resistance to 300 meters - along with its other traits, the mark of a true div-ing watch. For legibility as much as to delight the eye, the Diver Chronograph Monaco is a perfect fusion between form and function for which Ulysse Nardin is known. 14

Artemis Racing became the second team to win three Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series regattas with a resounding victory in Toulon. With practice cancelled on Friday due to light winds, the teams came into racing on Saturday with little opportunity to get a feel for the shifty local conditions in Toulon. Skipper, Nathan Outteridge, was back at the helm after his Olympic success in Rio, and it would be easy to forgive him for looking a little rusty. However, the double Olympic medallist hit the ground running, making the perfect start with two victories and a third on Saturday.
“One of the biggest gains we’ve made this weekend, is cementing our communication onboard. Over the events we’ve had a bit of a tough time with our decision-making processes, but Iain Percy was doing a great job this weekend of explaining what he was thinking and what our options were, as well as picking all the rights shifts. It’s just a pleasure to sail with him and the rest of the guys, we’re a very strong unit”, concluded Nathan Outteridge.
“Saturday was a great day for us, starting well, or fighting our way through the fleet. I’m fortunate to have such a great crew, working seamlessly around me, it makes my life so much easier. The conditions were very light and patchy, and we did a good job with Christian, on when to fly the hull and when not to”, said Nathan Outteridge. After such a great start, the pressure was on heading to Super Sunday. However, the team kept their composure to lead the fleet from start to finish in Race 4, claiming their third victory of the weekend, and extending their overall regatta lead. In Race 5, an OCS on the start dropped the team to the back of the fleet leaving them with plenty to do. Nathan Outteridge continued, “Today we kicked things off nicely with a win, with the boys sailing really well all the way round. In the second two races we didn’t quite manage our timing perfectly, ending with OCSs in both starts. Again, it showed the quality of our crew to fight and get back up to third in the second race”. The Swedish team held a lead of 8 points over Land Rover BAR heading into the final race, leading to an intense finale. “The last race was all about keeping close to Land Rover BAR, so there was a bit of action on the first reach with a few penalties for everyone. It certainly made life interesting for us, and I’m sure for the spectators and everyone watching at home”, commented Team Manager and Tactician, Iain Percy. The commentary team were quick to praise the way the crew were communicating all weekend.

Cat’s Eye Aventurine The Girard-Perregaux Manufacture presents this seductive new version of its iconic Cat’s Eye collection, widely acclaimed for its magnificent aesthetic and mechanical features. With its dark glittering color dial in aventurine that recalls a night sky full of starts, the new model Girard-Perregaux poetically marks out each hour of day and night as a precious moment. The beauty of this “Day & Night” model stylishly combines the curves of the Cat’s Eye case with a sophisticated manufactured movement. The complication is displayed in a feminine way : a shiny sun and a smooth moon appear on the 22 cts pink gold disc that completes a rotation in 24 hours. Synchronized with the hours and minutes hands, the complication is very easy to use as it doesn’t need to be set. Its emblematic oval case – the signature feature of the collection – is crafted out of pink gold, while its bezel sparkles with 62 brilliant-cut diamonds. 1975: The origins In 1975, Girard-Perregaux introduced the Laureato, a timepiece that single-handedly broke all the conventions of that time in terms of the shape, the materials and the movement. Suggested by Girard-Perregaux’s Italian distributor, the name is a nod to the film world. It is inspired by and indeed bears the same name in Italian as the Mike Nichols film The Graduate (1967) starring Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft and Katharine Ross. The superior quality of steel: a bold move If historians were to choose the watershed moment when the watchmaking industry began using steel as a quality material to make high-end watches look sportier, they would also have to factor in the Laureato’s trajectory from its period of development to its release in 1975. Right from the beginning, this model also featured gold which was particularly unusual for watches of this type. The word bold has always been part of the Girard-Perregaux vocabulary. Such a daring venture was an inspired move at a time when marketing departments hadn’t yet taken their first steps into the world of watchmaking. Laureato 2016: The future of its origins A return to its original values, collector While preparing to celebrate its 225th anniversary, GirardPerregaux returned to its iconic Laureato and the original design premise. Backed by the manufacturing arts and micromechanics expertise, over 40 years after the first steel Laureato was introduced and as a tribute to its success, the Brand is honoring the timepiece with a limited edition of 225. Steel to this day Watchmakers and lovers of fine watchmaking have always appreciated the properties of steel and it is making a strong

comeback as it is invariably associated with the sporty watch design. Once again there are the well-known hexagonal bezel and the understated seamless integration of the flexible bracelet, but this time it has a clasp and a subtle interplay between polished and satin-brushed finishing. The 41 mm diameter returns to reasonable standards after allowing itself a momentary foray into the XXL era. The baton-shaped hands come from the original model and have been embellished with a hint of luminescent material while the dial (sometimes white gray sometimes navy blue) is stamped with a Clou de Paris small checkerboard pattern like the first 1975 models. The date appears at 3 o’clock. Among the inconspicuous signs that this is a modern edition are an anti-reflective treatment on the crystal and the addition of a sapphire crystal on the back. The quintessential enduring three date hands As with any fine watchmaking brand, the Laureato features a Manufacture movement: the GP03300-0030. This 27-jewel self-winding mechanical movement with flawless finishing is equipped with an oscillating weight that can be viewed through the case back. It has a frequency of 28”800 vibrations per hour and a 46-hour power reserve. Post-vintage: New trend Backed by 225 years of history, Girard Perregaux guards its expertise and centuries-old craftsmanship. Internally, it is preserving the treasures of its legacy and the museum is poised to reopen in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Exploring the timepieces on display at the museum reveals a journey marked by impassioned artistry and boldness as well as a collection that has become timeless and captures the spirit of founder watchmaker Jean-François Bautte in 1791. Created in 1975 and faithfully re-released for the 225th anniversary, the Laureato joins this hall of fame for iconic models. 21

A Scandinavian Winter’s Tale By Swatch Once upon a time, in a faraway village in Northern Scandinavia: the air was freezing cold, the trees were covered in a thick layer of fluffy white snow, and the villagers were busily making final preparations for the upcoming festivities. Cozy wooden houses were festooned with red-ribboned wreaths and a smell of homemade gingerbread cookies was in the air. Everyone was happily bustling around. Frederique Constant’s motto is « Live your passion ». Do you adopt this slogan also in your life? Or what is yours? Gwyneth Paltrow: I am an absolute believer in living one passion. I feel incredibly fortunate that my work has always stemmed out of passion and continues to do so. Which Frederique Constant watch is your favorite one? Gwyneth Paltrow: Difficult to answer, because I like a lot! But my favorites are the Manufacture Slimline Moonphase for Ladies and the new Delight Automatic models. Describe your first watch, who bought it, where you wore it and any memories you have it? Gwyneth Paltrow: My first watch was a swatch watch. It was the 80’s and they were a massive trend. I was given a blue swatch by my parents for Christmas in 1984 and I was so thrilled! I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever owned. How does „time” affect your life? For what activity can you always spare 10 minutes and for what activity do you never seem to have the time? Gwyneth Paltrow: Like almost everyone I know in the world today, there never seems to be enough time to achieve all that we are meant to achieve on any given day. Time with my 62

Your involvement with Frederique Constant is driven by your passion for charity what is your first memory of being involved with a charity and did it set the tone for your adult life? Gwyneth Paltrow: I grew up very involved in my community efforts to feed people with very little resources. I both prepared and served food both in California and NYC in soup kitchens. My mother always instilled in me a sense of responsibility to the society at large, and having the experience of working closely with populations who were struggling definitely engaged my empathy, my anger at the systemic problems, and my passion to be involved. What causes are you most passionate about? Do you feel that there are any that are often overlooked and in greater need of public attention? Gwyneth Paltrow: I can become very passionate about every single cause on the planet, GMO labeling, Clean water, Global warming, starvation; I could go on and on. I feel that education is power and that so many of our issues will be addressed if we have an education system in place that bolsters critical thought and passion in our next generations. Today we see shoppers being more conscious of the goods they are buying where they came from and what the sales revenue ultimately benefits.
