t’s been a long time coming (development of the game allegedly began way back in 2003, but it was only announced in 2007), but the first chapter of StarCraft II (the game was split into three instalments during development, with Wings of Liberty obviously being the first, while Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void will follow on at a later stage. Think of the latter two as expansion packs) promises to bring the StarCraft action that we know and love, and wrap it up in some fancy new packaging. Set four years after the events that transpired in StarCraft: Brood War, the game’s single-player campaign will follow Jim Raynor as he leads an insurgent group against the Terran Dominion. Expect to see many familiar faces in this sequel, together with a few unfamiliar folks (and locations). The multiplayer will offer up the same fast-paced competitive play (and team play, if you’re so inclined) that gamers loved in its predecessor’s multiplayer component, with the Terrans, Zerg and Protoss battling for online supremacy. Rest assured that, while the single player will only deal with the Terrans, the game will ship with access to all three races for the multiplayer.

The wings of Icarus and the Golden Fleece, both of which Kratos got his hands on during his journey through GoW II, will make return appearances in this title. The demo of the game also sees Kratos using the head of the god Helios in similar fashion to the way he utilised the heads of Medusa and Euryale in previous titles. While the power of the heads of Medusa and Euryale revolved around stone, the power of Helios’ head revolves around light, and waving the head around (Kratos is a playful guy – even when he’s toying with something as brutally unsettling as a severed head) will reveal secrets,
uncover hidden passages, daze enemies and serve as a light source in the darkest of areas. The developers have promised that new weapons will be announced at a later stage, all of which will be more user-friendly than the weapons from previous titles. The game will feature attack combos from the previous titles, as well as a few new ones. The number of on-screen enemies at any given time has been increased to 50, a huge increase from the 15 of previous titles, meaning that battles will get even more intense. The enemies, called Dark Forces, will be harmed by any form of light so it’s in the player’s best interests to set up light-emitting traps, activate generators, make use of flashlights and flares, and keep the enemy at bay however possible. Remedy is also going to include a day/night cycle in the game to create added suspense and drama. During the day, Wake can talk to other NPCs in the town and relax a little, but when night falls, all bets are off. The game will be highly story-focused while still attempting to give players plenty to explore.
hen bestselling thriller writer Alan Wake finds himself in a rut of writer’s block, his wife decides that he needs a change of scenery. Off they go to the delightful town of Bright Falls to help him recover his creative flow. Then one day, his wife vanishes without a trace, and Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare world that is created from the very pages of his last book, which he has no memory of writing. that will be instantly recognisable to fans of Mass Effect (and other RPGs), except that instead of spaceships and laser rifles, you’re now going to be dealing with secret agents and lots of spy stuff. Numerous firearms, hand to hand combat and a plethora of top-secret, spy-type gadgets will be in your bag of tricks. The game boasts a unique dialogue system, dubbed DSS
ookie CIA field agent Michael Thorton gets into a spot of bad luck when one of his missions goes awry and he is cut off from his contacts, betrayed by his superiors and hunted by the US government. His only choice is to operate undercover and unravel this conspiracy that he suddenly finds himself a part of. That’s the basic story behind Alpha Protocol, a game
(Dialogue Stance System), which requires that you choose your overall stance (like “professional” or “suave”) during dialogue rather than specific dialogue choices. Expect all the usual character customisation, advancement and stat increases that you’re used to seeing in RPGs, together with weapon (there will apparently be loads of weapons in the game) customisation.

player engages with the world, with the big and small aspects of the place and characters. They’re a co-conspirator in the narrative. I hope it’s as exciting and challenging to play as it was to write. Iron Man 2 presented me with the challenge and opportunity to work with both SEGA and Marvel on creating something wholly unique - a story that exists at the cross-roads of the comic I write, the film universe which I was lucky enough to be asked to contribute to, and a wholly- immersive interactive experience like a game”
his isn’t just another movie tiein. The Iron Man 2 videogame will feature enemies not seen in the film, and the developers are working hand-in-hand with both the film producers and comic writer (Matt Fraction) to ensure that the game has a story that can stand on its own. Players will have a chance to feel the powers of Iron Man with new destructible environments, crazy enemies and innovative hand-tohand combat. According to Fraction: “A game presents an entirely new challenge, where the audience/consumer/

ico Rodriguez is back! This time, the secret agent that can leap out of an aeroplane, hijack a helicopter on his parachute trip down to the ground, engage in a high-speed helicopter/car chase, then leap out of the helicopter and liberate a sports car without his feet ever touching the ground will be heading to the fictional island of Panau in Southeast Asia. His goal: to overthrow the evil dictator Baby Panay and settle the score with his former handler/ boss, Tom Sheldon. The game will feature new weapons (such as a rocket launcher that fires laserguided rockets), new vehicles

The vehicles in the game will have more diverse handling (a sports car won’t handle well on a dirt road, for example) and they (along with the weapons in the game) can be upgraded as you progress through the story.

walls and ceilings. The Predators are the stealthy, sneaky hunters with access to a bunch of hightech, high-powered weaponry and gadgets – they’re able to cloak, fire shoulder-mounted plasma launchers and collect trophies from more epic kills. The game will also feature multiplayer (both competitive and cooperative modes), so you can bite, hunt or be scared of your friends online. It’s going to be violent, scary (when playing as the marine, at least) and action packed by the looks of things, and that’s exactly what we’d expect from an AvP game.
ebellion Developments, the studio behind Aliens versus Predator for the PC back in 1999, are back in the driver’s seat for this new title in the franchise. As it was with the original title, players will be able to experience the game from the perspective of each of its three factions: marines, Aliens and Predators. The marine segments will play sort of like a first-person survivalhorror game, with you trying to fend off against the brutal assault of the other two races. The aliens are all-out killing machines, able to slash, bite and claw at enemies when they’re not running on
