JOIN US this summer at BCA Studios and work closely with professional teaching artists for a week. Every camp includes in-depth studio arts experience, high-quality art materials, and a final celebration. Come for a half-day or pair a morning and afternoon camp together to make a full-day experience. A supervised lunch break* is provided from 11-noon for campers staying all day. Join our Aftercare Art Club from 3-5 p.m. for an extended camp experience, which features sketch book time, visits to Pine Street hot spots and other artful and edible activities. TEACHING ASSISTANT POSITIONS (AGE 16+) Do you like working with children? Are you interested in gaining some hands-on experience in an arts classroom? BCA’s summer camp program relies on volunteer TA’s throughout the summer. TA’s assist instructors in the classroom, help monitor and play with campers during lunch coverage, and meet and greet parents during final exhibitions. TA’s are scheduled on a weekly basis and work with a specific teaching artist for mornings, afternoons, or all day. SCHOLARSHIPS Partial and full scholarships for classes and camps are available through the generosity of local businesses and donors. REFUNDS Refunds can only be given if the request is made at least two weeks before the beginning of the camp. 15% of your registration fee is non-refundable. After the two week window, a class credit will be processed at the discretion of the Education Director. Class credits are non-refundable. A full refund will be given if BCA has to cancel a camp.

SUMMER ART INSTITUTES FOR AGES 15-18 Passionate about photography, jewelry or pottery? Inspired by drawing, painting, and printmaking? Immerse yourself in a full-day art institute for a week! Our Summer Art Institutes are specifically designed for middle and high school students with a passion for art. Working closely with a specialized teaching artist, students will learn a variety of techniques in the medium of their choice and will be encouraged to experiment and take creative risks. In our professional art studios, students will learn to use the darkroom, digital lab, painting studio, printing press and much more. Individual projects are based on students’ interests.

Week 1 June 18-22 POTTERY WHEEL 8-11 a.m. Ages: 6-8

This camp is all about the ever-popular pottery wheel. Kids never get bored with learning new throwing, decorating, and glazing techniques as they make bowls, cups and more! All items will be dishwasher safe and lead-free. No experience necessary. *PAIR this with Cartoons for a full-day experience.

CARTOONS Noon-3 p.m. Ages: 6-8

Learn how to draw cartoon characters that you create or that you love from books and movies. Campers will look at a variety of illustrators and cartooning styles for inspiration and will discover how to develop a character and give them the expressions to make them come alive. *PAIR this with Pottery Wheel for a fullday experience.

FINE METAL JEWELRY 8-11 a.m. Ages 9-11

Use professional jewelry tools to make rings, pendants, and bracelets with brass and silver. Learn basic jewelry techniques including sawing, filing, soldering, texturing, ring sizing and more. Beads and other craft techniques will also be added to enhance your wearable art. Lead-free solder and safe-flux are used during the camp. *PAIR this with Digital Art & Design or Pottery Wheel for a full-day experience.

SILKSCREEN 8-11 a.m. Ages: 9-11

Take your favorite drawings, photos, and designs and print them onto t-shirts, bags, posters and more! Working in BCA’s professional print studio, students will learn to apply photo emulsion, use a silkscreen exposure unit and print images using water-based inks. At the end of the week, students will have an array of printed items to wear or share. BCA

provides one t-shirt and poster paper. Students are encouraged to bring other surfaces to print on as well. *PAIR this with Digital Art & Design or Pottery Wheel for a full-day experience.

DIGITAL ART & DESIGN Noon-3 p.m. Ages 9-11

Create unique, fun works of art and learn the basics of design using photographs, graphics and more! Students will go on guided scavenger-hunt photo walks throughout the South End of Burlington and will utilize creative software applications to design prints, posters, and small books. *PAIR this with Fine Metal Jewelry or Silkscreen for a full-day experience.

Join us for a week-long visual arts course, specially designed for young artists with a passion for drawing and painting. Students will work in BCA’s painting studio, experimenting with different drawing and painting mediums and techniques such as acrylic, charcoal, perspective, and abstraction. Students will also develop a deeper understanding of professional 2-D artistic techniques, and individual projects will be encouraged in this small class based on students’ interests. *PAIR this with Darkroom for a fullday experience.

Become a miniature fashion designer! Campers will learn basic sewing techniques and will use simple patterns to cut and create their dolls out of various sewing materials, including cotton, rickrack, yarns, ribbons, buttons, puffy fabric paints and more. By the end of the week, campers will have made many fashionable outfits and accessories for their dolls. *PAIR this with Jewelry or Pottery Wheel for a full-day experience.

Noon-3 p.m. Ages: 6-8 Paper beads, glass beads, clay beads and more! Learn how to make jewelry with all different kinds of materials. Campers will learn about how to attach clasps, use beading tools and make their beads and pendants. PHOTOGRAPHY INSTITUTE 8-3 p.m. Ages: 15-18

Immerse yourself in the photographic process and develop your artistic vision in this dynamic one-week program! Students will use both the traditional darkroom and the digital lab to create a portfolio of quality images. Instruction in film and digital shooting methods, darkroom printing, image processing in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, group photo shoots, experimentation with a professional lighting kit, and more are covered throughout the week. Experience in photography is not required to participate. This experience is excellent for students with a passion for photography and students working on portfolio development for the college application process. Bring your camera or use one of ours.

Join us for this week-long wheel throwing course, specially designed for teens with a passion for art. In our professional ceramics studio, students will learn to use a potter’s wheel and hand building methods to create sculptural and functional pottery in clay. Clay preparation, centering, forming, trimming, glazing and firing techniques will also be introduced. The class size will be kept small to ensure that individual vision and projects can be developed and encouraged. No experience necessary.

Take your favorite drawings, photos, and designs and print them onto t-shirts, bags, posters and more! Working in BCA’s professional print studio, students will learn to apply photo emulsion, use a silkscreen exposure unit and print images using water-based inks. At the end of the week, students will have an array of printed items to wear or share. BCA provides one t-shirt and poster paper. Learn the basics of digital photography! DRAWING & PAINTING INSTITUTE Noon-3 p.m. Ages: 15-18

Join us for a week-long visual arts course, specially designed for teens with a passion for art. Students will spend the day at BCA’s painting studio, experimenting with different drawing and painting techniques such as acrylic, charcoal, figure drawing, perspective, and abstraction. Students will develop a deeper understanding of professional 2-D artistic techniques, and will leave with paintings and drawings to add to their art portfolio. Individual projects will be encouraged in this small class based on students’ interests.

Become a miniature fashion designer! Campers will learn basic sewing techniques and will use simple patterns to cut and create their dolls out of various sewing materials, including kinds of cotton, rickrack, yarns, ribbons, buttons, puffy fabric paints and more. By the end of the week, campers will have made many fashionable outfits and accessories for their dolls. *PAIR this with Pottery Wheel for a full-day experience.

Week 8 August 13 -17 ARTVENTURE WITH BCA & BURLINGTON PARKS, RECREATION & WATERFRONT 8-5 p.m. Ages: 6-11

Join our full-day Artventure camp! Campers will spend the morning in BCA’s art studios with professional teaching artists exploring a variety of art projects including painting, printmaking, and craft. In the afternoon, campers will join Parks, Recreation and Waterfront staff for a variety of fun activities and field trips including swimming at North Beach, bowling, berry picking and more. This special partner camp is led by teaching artists from BCA and staff from Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront. Immerse yourself in the photographic process and develop your artistic vision in this dynamic one-week program! Students will use both the traditional darkroom and the digital lab to create a portfolio of quality images. Instruction in film and digital shooting methods, darkroom printing, image processing in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, group photo shoots, experimentation with a professional lighting kit, and more are covered throughout the week. Experience in photography is not required to participate. This experience is excellent for students with a passion for photography and students working on portfolio development for the college application process. Bring your camera or use one of ours.

School Break Youth Workshops Choose from 1 to 5 days of art workshops for your child during Spring School Break. All basic supplies are included. Students must bring their bag lunch, and snacks will be provided.
