BCA CENTER SUMMER EXHIBITIONS

CRYSTAL WAGNER TRAVERSE JUNE 29-OCTOBER 7, 2018 1st floor and exterior façade of the BCA Center Opening Reception: Friday, June 29, 6-8 p.m. Artist Talk: Crystal Wagner Tuesday, October 2, 2018, 6-7:30 p.m. Free admission

Multi-disciplinary artist Crystal Wagner transforms organic and biomorphic designs into colorful prints, sculptures, and sprawling installations comprised of bursting colors and organic forms. Her two and three-dimensional work boasts bright neon hues consisting of distinctive, intricate circular patterns suggestive of the natural world. The artist imploys a hybrid approach to printmaking and sculpture, in which she incorporates her screenprints with recycled consumer materials, such as disposable table cloths, to create textural pieces that are as expansive as they are voluminous. Wagner will create an immense site-specific installation in BCA’s first-floor gallery that grows from floor to ceiling and emerges outside to meander across the exterior façade. This exhibition will be Wagner’s first to simultaneously incorporate interior and exterior space within one work. Crystal Wagner: Traverse is courtesy of the artist and AFA Gallery, NYC.

NICOLE CZAPINSKI forever, a little ghost JUNE 15-AUGUST 5, 2018 Roth Gallery, 2nd Floor, BCA Center Opening Reception: Friday, June 29, 6-8 p.m. Artist Talk: Nicole Czapinski Thursday, July 26, 2018 • 6-7:30 p.m. Free admission Nicole Czapinski explores illusions within perception, the complexity of consciousness, and is inspired by the invisible and unknown. By employing the simplest of materials, she examines aspects of awareness – from the interior elusiveness of consciousness to the enormity of an expanding universe. Her work is comprised of framed shapes “drawn” with colored thread that appear suspended in space.

For her Project Vermont presentation, the artist will activate her work by creating a series of frozen sculptures that will melt and refreeze in a continuous cycle throughout the duration of the show. Nicole Czapinski will be the first artist to be featured as part of Project Vermont – a new series dedicated to experimentation by providing a setting for contemporary Vermont artists to push their artistic practice while creating new work. Presenting visual, performance, and interdisciplinary exploration from emerging to established artists, Project Vermont supports artists’ exploration of new ideas and challenges, enables innovation, and creates engagement between audience and artist.

CONVERSATIONS IN CONTEMPORARY ART: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR ARTISTS Are you an artist who has a body of work ready to show but is struggling to find funding or an exhibition venue? Are you interested in developing/refining your practice through graduate school or artist residencies, but find yourself intimidated by the application process? This series of workshops are designed to engage artists at emerging stages in their careers, looking to professionalize their practice. You’ll leave with an improved understanding of how to navigate the ever-changing world of contemporary art.

THE ARTIST PROPOSAL

THE ARTIST AND CURATOR

Learn how to develop the materials you need for a successful artist proposal for a gallery or special project. Bring your artist statement, CV, images of your work, and website link (if you have one) to discuss in the workshop and we may use it as an example for the entire workshop.

BCA Curator and Director of Exhibitions Heather Ferrell will answer your questions and review exhibit proposals. Through a lively conversation we plan to demystify the curatorial process, as well as offer practical advice on studio visits, project proposals, and getting your work out to galleries and museums.
