BCA CENTER SUMMER EXHIBITIONS

SARAH AMOS:

UNIQUE MULTIPLES JUNE 21 – OCTOBER 6, 2019 1st Floor, BCA Center Artist Reception: Friday, June 21, 5–7 p.m.

Dividing her time between Northern Vermont and her native Australia, Sarah Amos is among a generation of artists who have devised conceptual and formal innovations in printmaking that transcend local histories and conventions to form new meanings. Combining multiple printmaking techniques -etching, monoprint, and collograph- with painting and stitch work; Amos upends traditional notions of printmaking to create monumentally scaled works that evoke a confluence of cultures. Her large-scale prints and multiples allude to organic, scientific, and cultural ideas while exploring materiality and memory. Sarah Amos: Unique Multiples is presented by Leunig’s Bistro & Café.

ALISA DWORSKY AND BILL FEREHAWK

JUNE 21 – OCTOBER 6, 2019 Roth, 2nd Floor, BCA Center

Artist Reception: Friday, June 21, 5–7 p.m.

Alisa Dworsky and Bill Ferehawk, Concept Rendering, 2019

Job Site is a collaborative, multimedia installation that explores the drawing and choreography inherent in architecture. This room-sized installation captures the embedded and often overlooked moments of mark making and movement that animate the creation of buildings such as stray hammer marks or snapped chalk lines. Incorporating paper, graphite, wood and video projection, Job Site honors the tradition of New England’s wood frame construction while revealing the mystery beneath the surface of everyday structures that surround and protect us.

COMMUNITY TILE MAKING WITH BRIGITTA VARADI

Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, 2019 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Farm Barn, Shelburne Farms Free for members of BCA and Shelburne Farms Join Burlington City Arts and Shelburne Farms’ artist-in-residence Brigitta Varadi for a community tile making project inspired by the restoration of historic tiles at the Inn at Shelburne Farms. Families and visitors can help Brigitta craft some of the 3,000 ceramic tiles that will be featured in her upcoming exhibition at BCA Center in February 2020. While creating tiles, join a larger discussion about the land, sustainability, craft, and re-discovered traditions.

Artist residencies are an essential resource for artists to focus on their creative practice, connect with other artists, and connect with new communities through their work. Whitney Ramage, Director of Rutland’s emerging 77ART Residency program and two of their visiting artists, Sarah Stefana Smith and Jason Rondinelli, will lead a guided discussion with artists about how artist residencies can improve your practice, strategies for seeking and securing the best residency for you, and the basics of professional artist applications. The discussion will be an informal Q&A about resources and opportunities followed by refreshments and networking with fellow artists and curators. Presented in partnership with Vermont’s 77ART Artist Residency Program in Rutland (www.77ART.org).

Brigitta Varadi’s research-based artist residency and workshops are a partnership between Burlington City Arts and Shelburne Farms. Combining the missions of both organizations, the artist will lead conversations about social and cultural issues impacting the Vermont landscape and its community, culminating in a BCA Center exhibition in 2020.
