UPDATE TO OUR NEW CLASS PRICING Prices for camps, classes, and studio access have been reduced to the former member rate, by about 10 percent. We are continuing to grow our robust scholarship program so that financial assistance is available to all community members who would like to participate in our classes, camps, and studios. If you would like to contribute to our scholarship fund, you can add on a donation when registering for a class.
YOUTH & ADULT CLASSES EXPLAINED
IN-PERSON BCA STUDIOS AT 405 PINE STREET YOUTH & ADULT CLASSES (AGES 18+) For all youth classes, students will remain in the same classroom with the same students and teachers for the entire four weeks. Please note there will be no mixing of students with other BCA groups. All staff and students must pass a health screening before entering any BCA classroom. Please note that no one may enter our facility if they have symptoms of any illness or have not followed the State of Vermont’s travel regulations. Staff and students are required to wear a face covering/mask at all times while in the building.
Classes may be altered or canceled to comply with local and state regulations concerning the pandemic. Class fee refunds will only be given if the request is made at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the class. An administrative fee of 15% of the class price is non-refundable. Full refunds will be given if BCA cancels a class.
HOME STUDIO VIA ZOOM YOUTH & ADULT CLASSES (AGES 13+) Bring BCA Studios to you! BCA’s Home Studio Classes are designed to give you a creative push to keep making art at home. With the support of our knowledgeable teaching artists and fellow students, you can stay connected to our BCA community.
Each class includes convenient art supply kits to provide you with everything you need to get started, weekly instruction via Zoom, and personalized support with your projects. Plus, our teaching artists will have access to BCA Studio equipment and will be able to help you do what you can’t do at home, such as prep screens, print photos, and fire clay pieces in our kilns. Registered students will receive an email one week before the class–separate from the class registration email–with the Zoom login information and instructions for picking up art supply kits. STUDIO ART
SCREEN PRINT INSTITUTE
Explore a variety of art projects, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and craft, while also getting a lot of time for outdoor activities. All materials provided.
Take your favorite drawings, photos, and designs and print them onto bags, posters, and more! Working in BCA’s professional print studio, students learn to apply photo emulsion, use a silkscreen exposure unit, and print images using water-based inks. BCA provides all basic materials. Students are encouraged to bring other surfaces to print on as well.

Zoom | All Ages OPTION 1: Friday, April 9, 2021, 5:30-6:30 pm OPTION 2: Friday, May 14, 2021, 5:30-6:30 pm Instructors: Sarah Camille Wilson & Catie Owen $20 per family Spend a Friday night making art with your family from the comfort of your home! Our clay experts join you live, via Zoom, from the BCA Clay Studio, to lead you through a fun, family-friendly handbuilding clay project. Ask questions, see what other families are working on, and learn something new together. After class, BCA will glaze and fire your beautiful clay creation for you to keep forever. A ticket includes a supply kit, an hour-long demonstration, and glazing and firing of a maximum of four pieces. Kits and clay work must be picked up and dropped off by students at our studios.
HOME STUDIO: FAMILY CARDMAKING Zoom | Ages 6 & up Sunday, May 2, 2021, 11 am-12 pm Instructor: Kate McKernan $20 per family
Create handmade cards to share with those you love! Family Cardmaking is a great class for making art as a family at home on a Sunday morning. Class fees include one hour of instruction as well as all the materials you will need provided in a kit. Students must pick up kits at BCA Studios.

WOODCUT
Mondays, April 19 - May 10, 2021, 6-8:30 pm Instructor: Ashley Stagner $180 Discover the unique process of woodblock printing with local artist Ashley Stagner. Students focus on fundamental relief printing techniques and will be able to transform their designs into unique prints. The class will then progress to more sophisticated processes, including multicolor printing and two-three color reduction block printing. Class cost includes all basic materials.
WHEEL PROJECTS
Wednesdays, April 21-May 19, 2021, 6-8:30 pm Instructor: Jeremy Ayers $225 Prerequisite: Students must have previous experience working on a pottery wheel and basic knowledge of throwing and trimming. Join master potter Jeremy Ayers in an exploration of intermediate and advanced wheel throwing techniques. Jeremy shares his expertise to improve your wheel skills, while also helping you problem solve specific challenges you have in your own wheel work. Students have plenty of one-on-one instruction and time for group critiques in this small and supportive class. The final class focuses on glazing your work before it is fired by our studio. Students are encouraged to come prepared with projects in mind that they want to accomplish. Class price includes one 25-pound bag of clay and the glazing and firing of pieces made during the class. Please note that there is no open studio time included in this class.
DARKROOM PHOTOGRAPHY
Wednesdays, April 21-May 12, 2021, 6-8 pm Instructor: Kristen Watson $145 Explore the traditional, analog black and white darkroom! Learn how to properly expose black and white film, process film into negatives, and make silver gelatin prints. All 35mm film, paper, and darkroom supplies are included. Bring your manual 35mm or medium-format film camera as well as an exposed roll of black and white film to the first class.

HOME STUDIO: STILL LIFE PAINTING Tuesdays, April 6-27, 2021, 1-3pm Instructor: Gail Salzman $160 Prerequisite: Drawing and oil painting experience is recommended.
Create dynamic compositions with vibrant color using contemporary still-life as your subject. Find beauty and personal meaning in common household items. This exploration of basic form and color will strengthen your painting of any subject matter. Local artist and master teacher Gail Salzman leads a live Zoom class with painting demos, examples, lots of tips, and encouraging feedback. Using water-soluble oils (no fumes, easy clean-up with water) students create one or two small paintings on primed panels. Students should expect to spend a couple of hours on painting between class sessions. Class includes eight hours of instruction and all the materials you will need in a kit, including panel, paints, and brushes. Supplies in your kit are yours to keep, so you can continue painting.
HOME STUDIO: DRAWING
Wednesdays, April 7-28, 2021, 6-7:30pm Instructor: Ashley Stagner $120 Learn a variety of drawing techniques including basic perspective, compositional layout, and use of dramatic light and shadow–all from the comfort of your home. Local artist Ashley Stagner leads students through a variety of drawing exercises and group discussion over Zoom, keeping you creative and engaged with the BCA community. Students are encouraged to work with a variety of drawing media including pencil, ink, and charcoal in this supportive and fun class. All levels of experience are welcome. Class includes six hours of instruction plus all the materials you will need in a kit.
HOME STUDIO: PAINT NIGHT Tuesday, April 13, 2021, 6-8 pm Instructor: Jess Graham $40
Get creative at home with Vermont artist Jess Graham, known for her strikingly colorful designs and paintings. Jess shares pro tips and techniques with you as you paint together via Zoom. This class is a fun way to get creative and meet other artists. Class includes two hours of instruction plus all the materials you will need in a kit.
HOME STUDIO: SCREEN PRINTING Instructor: Kate McKernan Tuesdays, April 20-May 11, 2021, 6-7 pm $80
Bring the BCA Print Studio to YOU via this four-week-long introduction to silkscreen. Local artist Kate McKernan leads a Zoom class live from BCA’s Print Studio. Discover how screen printing works and how to print your own design in the comfort of your home. Create personal artwork through drawing or tracing images that Kate will put onto a screen for you. Then, with her guidance, you will print multiple copies of your design on paper and a tote bag. And, the screen and other supplies provided in your kit are yours to keep, so you can keep printing even when the class is over! Students will also have time to share designs, inspiration, and encouragement to keep creating. Class includes four hours of instruction plus all the materials you will need in a kit, including paper and a tote bag to print on.

HOME STUDIO: DIGITAL PHOTO Mondays, May 3-24, 2021, 6-7:30pm Instructor: Mark LaRosa $120
Learn the basics of making a great photograph– from home–with your digital camera in this four-week online class. Our photography expert, Mark La Rosa, guides you through basic camera controls such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO ratings, shooting in RAW, lens choices, metering techniques, and more. Photos are shared for group critiques about the composition and concepts explored in your photographs. Students must have their own DSLR or digital Mirrorless camera. At the end of class, you will receive five 8.5x11-inch archival prints of your selected images. They will be printed for you on BCA’s Epson inkjet printer and available for pickup at the BCA studios.
HOME STUDIO: HANDBUILDING Wednesdays, May 5-26, 2021, 6-7 pm Instructor: Sarah Camille Wilson $80
Join local clay artist Sarah Camille Wilson Zooming live from BCA’s Clay Studio! Sarah covers basic handbuilding techniques such as creating a strong, even slab, soft slab construction, hard slab construction, pinch pots, and coil building. Students also learn simple tips for creating texture and decoration to make their work unique. Class includes four hours of instruction, all the materials you will need in a kit–including a bag of clay and hand tools–as well as the glazing and firing of a select number of pieces.

Local jeweler Bren Prescott instructs students on creating simple but satisfying metal wire jewelry. Learn the basics of wirework and beading to create your own unique pieces to keep or give as gifts. Class includes two hours of instruction plus all the materials you will need in a kit.

Full payment is required to secure your space in the class. We accept Visa, MasterCard, cash, and checks. Please register at least one week before class begins to ensure your place. Students will be notified if a class is to be canceled due to low registration at least a week in advance and will be refunded in full.
BCA Studios has lots of great options all year round for any skill level. Full or partial scholarships are available to anyone regardless of ability to pay. Please fill out a scholarship form online at burlingtoncityarts.org/scholarship or call 802-865-7166 to request a paper application. Once approved, your class/camp will be confirmed by the Education Director.
Refunds can only be given if the request is made at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the class. A cancellation fee of 15% of the class price is nonrefundable. After the twoweek window, a class credit will be processed at the discretion of the Education Director. Class credits are nonrefundable.
