SUMMER CAMP CATALOG | 2022

Join us this summer at the BCA Studios and work closely with professional teaching artists for a full week of in-depth studio arts experience. Every camp includes high-quality art materials and a final celebration. Come for a half-day or pair a morning and afternoon camp together to make a full-day experience. A supervised lunch break is provided from 11 am to 12 pm for campers staying all day. Need a longer camp day? Join our Aftercare

Art Club from 3-5 pm for an extended camp experience, which features sketch book time, visits to Pine Street hot spots, and other fun art activities. More time to explore and make!

BCA looks forward to welcoming you into our studios. Health and safety is our first priority and the Vermont Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control, and the City of Burlington’s analytics team are guiding us carefully. BCA will share specific health guidelines with parents prior to camp start-date.

REFUNDS Refunds can only be given if the request is made at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the camp. 15% of your registration fee is non-refundable. After the two-week window, a class credit will be processed at the discretion of the education director. Class credits are nonrefundable. A full refund will be given if BCA has to cancel a camp.

Shrink down with us and come create small wonderful worlds. Campers are encouraged to explore a variety of craft media to create tiny, intricate terrariums, doll houses, fairy worlds, and more. *Pair this with POTTERY or CARTOONS for a full-day experience.

CAMP CRAFTS AGES 9-11 From paper mâché to tie dye, this mixed media camp is all about classic DIY arts and crafts. Using a variety of mediums, create fun projects that spark creativity and encourage personal expression while learning new techniques. *Pair this with POTTERY for a full-day experience.

DARKROOM PHOT0 AGES 9-11 Experience the magic of a traditional photographic darkroom! In this camp, students go on guided photo shoots in the South End of Burlington with our manual 35mm SLR film cameras and learn how to print their own photographs in our black and white darkroom. *Pair this with POTTERY for a full-day experience.

PRINTMAKING AGES 6-8 Learn all about printmaking as a way to make exciting new art. In BCA’s professional print studio, students will learn different techniques such as carving stamps and monoprinting using professional tools and our printing press. Campers look at a variety of illustrators and comics styles before incorporating special design elements into their work. Campers also discover how to enhance their comics by learning about layouts, lettering, and figure drawing techniques. Learn the basics of digital illustration! Working in our digital lab, students use Adobe Creative Suite to create a variety of projects including a digital kaleidoscope, photomontage, digital drawings, and paintings. *Pair this with POTTERY or DARKROOM PHOTO for a full-day experience.

STUFFIES AGES 6-8 Make a stuffed animal or creature of your choice! Campers learn basic sewing techniques and use simple patterns to cut and create their own stuffies out of various sewing materials, including cottons, rickrack, yarns, ribbons, buttons, puffy fabric paints, and more. GALLERY EXPLORERS AGES 9-11 Explore, engage, and create art inspired by the BCA Center’s contemporary art exhibitions at our gallery on Church Street. Students investigate both traditional and unusual artists’ materials, explore a variety of drawing/painting, sculpting, and mixed media techniques, and create their own expressive works of art in our studio. Students spend the day at BCA’s painting studio, experimenting with different drawing and painting techniques such as acrylic, charcoal, figure drawing, perspective, and abstraction. Students develop a deeper understanding of professional 2-D artistic techniques and leave with paintings and drawings to add to their art portfolio. DIGITAL PHOTO AGES 12-18 Learn the basics of digital photography! SCHOOL OF FOOLERY AGES 9-14 Explore the fundamentals of circus artistry and physical comedy while embracing the power of play! Instructors for this unique camp focus on the inclusive fun that is found in our own bodies. Pantomime, juggling, balancing acts and impersonations; students gain confidence in who they are and what they are capable of. The camp culminates on Friday with a Festival of Fools performance on the top block of Church Street.Drop-off & Pick-up: BCA Center, 135 Church St.

MINI WORLDS AGES 6-8 Shrink down with us and come create small wonderful worlds. Campers are encouraged to explore a variety of craft media to create tiny, intricate terrariums, doll houses, fairy worlds, and more. *Pair this with POTTERY for a full-day experience.

SCREEN PRINT AGES 9-11 Take your favorite drawings, photos, and designs and print them onto t-shirts, bags, posters and more! Working in BCA’s professional print studio, students learn to apply photo emulsion, use a silkscreen exposure unit, and print images using water-based inks. At the end of the week, students will have an array of printed items to wear or share. BCA provides one t-shirt and poster paper. Students are encouraged to bring other surfaces to print on as well. *Pair this with CAMP CRAFTS or DARKROOM PHOTO for a full-day experience.

DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION AGES 9-11 Learn the basics of digital illustration! Working in our digital lab, students use Adobe Creative Suite to create a variety of projects including a digital kaleidoscope, photomontage, digital drawings, and paintings. *Pair this with CAMP CRAFTS or DARKROOM PHOTO for a full-day experience.

POTTERY AGES 12-18 Experience the magic of a traditional photographic darkroom! In this camp, students go on guided photo shoots in the South End of Burlington with our manual 35mm SLR film cameras and learn how to print their own photographs in our black and white darkroom. *Pair this with DIGITAL PHOTO for a full-day experience.

Learn all about printmaking as a way to make exciting new art. In BCA’s professional print studio, students will learn different techniques such as carving stamps and monoprinting, using professional tools and our printing press. Students create a variety of one-of-a-kind prints on tote bags, cards, and posters that they will be excited to show off. *Pair this with CARTOONS for a full-day experience.

POTTERY AGES 9-11 Join us for a week of working with clay in the BCA ceramics studio. Create bowls, cups, sculptures, and more through wheel throwing and hand building techniques. Learn surface design and decorating tips to make your pieces amazing. All items will be dishwasher-safe and lead-free. No experience necessary. *Pair this with SCREEN PRINT or DIGITAL PHOTO for a full-day experience.
