APRIL CAMPS APRIL VACATION VT VOLTAGE SOCCER CAMP

VT Voltage Professional Soccer Academy invites young soccer enthusiasts to be part of a challenging educational experience. The Academy offers an opportunity to learn and enjoy many aspects of the game of soccer in a competitive environment from a current professional player. Fundamentals, as well as sophisticated techniques of soccer, will be taught on a personalized individual level along with various forms of group instruction provided by Camp Director Bo Vuckovic and several other Vermont Voltage professional soccer players. Emphasis is placed on the development, improvement and refinement of basic playing skills. Attention will be given to the instruction of good ball control habits and movement techniques in challenging drills and simulated match situations. Conditioning methods and training ethics are also stressed to prevent injuries and improve the young athlete’s coordination and flexibility. Bo understands the needs of youth in soccer and stresses the development of a positive self-image, mental stimulation and a sense of respect and sportsmanship among players. All participants get a soccer ball and a t-shirt.

Ages: 5-13 $150 Resident / $170 Non-resident Leddy Park Arena Mon-Thu 4/18-4/21 8:00 AM-11:30 AM April Cool Camp will include instruction in skating skills and presentation with fun off ice games, crafts and activities. Campers will be grouped by ability for on ice activities. Cool Camp is appropriate for beginner skaters through Preliminary level. Skaters should dress in warm layers and bring skates, water and snakes. Skates and helmets provided at no charge as necessary.There will be no afternoon arts camp due to staffing

This week long licensed camp during April Break will provide your kids with fun, new experiences, and friendships. We will be offering a week of active games, arts & crafts, and the opportunity to be out and enjoying the spring weather. A cold morning snack, cold lunch, and afternoon snack will be provided for every camper. Signup for individual days or all five days!! Families must call our main office at #802-864-0123 to register, if applying for a scholarship or if applying childcare subsidy to assist in covering the camp fee. Registration deadline is Friday, April 8th! Campers must be in grades Kindergarten thru Fifth Grade!! Please note that our camp hours have changed.

Coaches provide instruction as parent and child work together to develop motor skills necessary to succeed in soccer and to prepare child for team play, which begins at the kindergarten level. Participants will receive a soccer ball and t-shirt. Program is led by Soccer Sparks staff.
Burlington Youth Lacrosse fields teams for boys and for girls in grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8. Practices are held twice per week, Monday-Thursday 5:307:30pm, at Leddy Park. Games are on Saturdays for boys and on Sundays for girls. When finalized by the league, the practice and game schedules will be provided by each team’s coach and/or posted on our website.
DISC GOLF CLINICS
Players are also required to become members of US Lacrosse. Burlington Youth Lacrosse can provide scholarships for registration fees and assist with equipment needs. Please visit burlingtonyouthlacrosse.org for up-todate information regarding the season.

NFL FLAG FOOTBALL CLINIC

During these clinic for beginners, the following will be taught: basic rules of the game, putting, approach shots, driving, grip, footwork, sidearm, backhand, upside down shots, rollers, trick shots and technique. You’ll also learn about the different disc molds and how they fly and what they do, tournaments/leagues/casual play and where to play in Vermont and beyond. The clinic is taught by professional disc golfer and DGVT owner, Chris Young.

Jordan Clapperton, our NFL Flag Football Program director, will lead this clinic and will teach drills that are appropriate to each participant’s age and ability level. The clinic will focus on the introducing the NFL flag football style of play. The following will be taught: throwing, catching, footwork, learning play development/defenses and learning each position’s responsibilities. Focus will be on how all of these contribute to the success of the team versus the individual player. No previous flag football experience is necessary. This is a drill-oriented clinic, so there will not be scrimmaging or games played. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Jen Cotton, jcotton@burlingtonvt.gov.
In a creative and safe environment that promotes wellness and encourages communication, growth, perseverance and happiness, campers will progress to the next level of skating. In this after school skateboarding workshop hosted by Maven, beginners will learn skateboard mechanics and basic riding skills such as balance, pushing, turning, stopping, riding transitions, and dropping-in. Advanced skaters will have the opportunity to drop in on bigger obstacles/features, and learn more challenging tricks. Skaters will be assessed to establish skateboarding goals. Lessons are adapted to each individual’s ability. All participants are educated in skateboard safety, including skateboard maintenance and skatepark etiquette. If there are any rain days, campers will explore skateboarding through music, art and culture. Campers will navigate the mechanics and maintenance needs of their equipment, as well as examine different creative art mediums related to the skateboard culture.

ADULTS 50+ OUT AND ABOUT TRIPS
Ages: 50+ ONE Community Center Join our Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront staff for a series of trips to get everyone out and about and moving and enjoying Vermont. Some of the trips will require walking and hiking. Our Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront van does not have a lift, so is only accessible by using stairs and we can not accommodate the storage of participant’s walkers in the van. Participants will meet at the ONE Community Center located at 20 Allen St. We can also pick up participants at local community housing residences. Some trips will require bringing a lunch!! Some trips will include an additional admission fee upon arrival to our destination.

Rokeby Museum Trip
Sign language can broaden your communication skills, stimulate your senses, and increase your ability to be expressive. This can be an excellent preparatory tool for learning theatre mime techniques or fostering a career as an interpreter as well as communication with deaf friends in social events. General fingerspelling, vocabulary, signing, using facial expression and role playing will be emphasized. Students with some or no experience are encouraged to attend. Pre-requisites: None

Join our Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront staff for a self guided visit to the Rokeby Museum. The Rokeby Museum is located in Ferrisburgh. From 1793 to 1961, Rokeby was home to four generations of Robinsons - a remarkable family of Quakers, farmers, abolitionists, artists, and authors. Today, the Robinson family’s home is a National Historic Landmark. Rokeby is among the best-documented Underground Railroad sites in the country. Bring a lunch for a picnic!!

Vermont Institute of Natural Science $20 Resident / $30 Non-resident Fri 5/13 8:30 AM-5:00 PM Join our Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront staff on a trip to the Vermont Institute of Natural Science located in Quechee, Vermont. A visit to VINS includes: Raptors, Adventure Playscape, Nature Trails, and the amazing Forest Canopy Walk. There are also indoor exhibits and daily educational programs. Admission fee for VINS is $17.50 for Adults. $16.50 for 60+. All participants will pay the admission fee upon arrival. Please bring a lunch and water bottle for a picnic lunch. This trip will require light to moderate walking.

Continuing to broaden your communication skills through this American Sign Language 2 sign language course. Entering students should be familiar with alphabets, and have a basic knowledge of vocabulary and numbers. This ongoing program will focus on greater use of sentence formation through American Sign Language , varying aspects of deaf culture, and more new vocabulary signs. Classifier signs and more tools will be part of this class. Prerequisites: ASL 1, ASL 1 at college.

Each session will feature a meat and vegetable dish to be prepared and served with injera bread. Injera bread is an East African sourdough flatbread with a unique, slightly spongy texture. The bread is a staple food of Ethiopia and Eritrea, where it is served with almost every meal. You may sign up for one or both classes!! Please bring an apron!! We will provide take home containers for taking home your meal that you prepare!!

In this class, you’ll tune into what’s happening for you with brief meditations, drawings, words, movement and dialogue to gain insights and new perspectives. Hatha Yoga will help you restore balance between body and mind while exercising every part of your body in a systematic way. Using stretches, postures, deep breathing and deep relaxation, you will experience release from both mental and physical tension while you become more limber and toned. RECREATION FEES & POLICIES
PAYMENT IS DUE AT TIME OF REGISTRATION RESIDENT and NON-RESIDENT FEES: Resident rates for programs apply to those residing within the Burlington City limits at the time registration is submitted.
There is a surcharge on user fees for non-Burlington residents as follows: • $10 per participant for programs costing $100 or less • $20 for programs costing up to $200 • $30 for programs costing over $200
AFTER YOU HAVE REGISTERED: You will receive an email
confirmation if you registered online. If the class is full, you will be notified and placed on a waiting list.
CANCELLATIONS: Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront
may cancel classes due to low enrollment, so don’t wait until the last minute and encourage friends to sign up as well! Programs can also be cancelled due to weather or instructor cancellations. If a program is cancelled by Parks, Recreation & Waterfront, a full refund will be issued and no fee will be charged.
REFUND POLICY: Unless otherwise stated, refunds will
be available only until two weeks prior to the first day of a program or activity. A refund will not be given if a participant is dismissed from the program. A $25 administrative fee will be charged for processing the refund. You must register prior to the beginning of a program, NO DROP-INS unless specifically stated.
INSURANCE: Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront
does not carry medical or accident insurance for program participants, as the cost would make program fees prohibitive. Please review your own health insurance plan to be certain that you and your family have the proper coverage.
SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships are available for qualified Burlington residents. Please call our main phone number or stop by any location for more information. Scholarships are awarded on a firstcome first-serve basis and are limited.
