APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Welcome to BUA Thank you for your interest! We are excited to learn more about you and your family, and, in turn, share information about our vibrant community. The BUA admission season begins in September and ends in January for entry the following school year. We welcome applications for grades 9, 10, and 11; however, families with younger students can still complete an online inquiry form in order to be added to our mailing list so that we can send application materials when they are eligible to apply.

When possible, we encourage visitors to schedule a studentled campus tour, admission interview, and shadow visit on the same day. Appointments are offered weekdays from October through January. STEP 3

Create a Ravenna Account BUA partners with Ravenna to host its online application. Through Ravenna, your family can electronically submit your application materials and monitor the status of each item.

STEP 4

Complete a preliminary application through Ravenna The Preliminary Application captures biographical information in addition to initial student interest and requires a non-refundable application fee ($60 for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants). Please contact the Admission Office if this fee is a hardship for your family. Your family is required to submit the Preliminary Application prior to sitting for an admission interview. All families who do so by January 1 will be guaranteed an interview appointment.

STEP 5

Register for the necessary standardized test The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) is required of all applicants unless a student is applying for eleventh grade, in which case PSAT or SAT scores are preferred. Registration materials are available at www.ssat.org, and official score reports must be sent directly from SSAT (code 1761). Fee waivers are available upon request if the cost of registration is a hardship for your family. International applicants must also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). BUA requires a minimum score of 100 and test results should be submitted prior to scheduling an interview. Official score reports must be sent directly from ETS (code 4622). Registration information is available at www.ets.org/toefl.

Campus Tours

Our admission representatives visit schools and attend secondary school fairs throughout Greater Boston during the fall and winter. We also welcome invitations to present at your school or in your hometown. Please contact the Admission Office if you would like to coordinate a visit.

Admission tours are offered weekdays from October through January to anyone interested in learning more about the BUA experience. A campus tour will highlight the main BUA building as well as shared community spaces including BU’s Mugar Library and George Sherman Union. All tours are student-led and typically take about 45 minutes.

Admission Open Houses 2019

Please be aware that your family must tour campus prior to sitting for an interview.

Open Houses are a great way for your family to meet members of the BUA community in an informal setting. Faculty, current families, and students will be available to share their individual experiences and answer questions. All are welcome; RSVPs are encouraged Sunday, September 29 Sunday, November 3

12:30-3:00 p.m. 12:30-3:00 p.m.

Connect with the BUA Community Your family may find it useful to have a conversation with BUA families that live in your geographic area or whose children attended similar schools or have like interests. The Admission Office is happy to connect you with a current family, alumnus, or a member of the faculty. No request is too silly or too small.

Spend a Day at BUA Shadow visits provide an opportunity for prospective students to attend classes, eat lunch, and get a true sense of what it means to be a “BUAer.” Although not required, a full-day visit is strongly encouraged prior to the January 31 deadline. Visitors are typically paired with a current student in the grade to which they are interested in applying.

Admission Interview An interview is a required component of the admission process, as it allows the Admission Committee to gain a better understanding of each applicant. It should also help your family determine that BUA is a good match in terms of academics, values, size, and location. As a reminder, your family must submit a Preliminary Application and tour campus prior to sitting for an admission interview.
