RENAMING & RETOOLING By Andy B. Childress
We are back , I tells ya what. The MISSISSIPPI ARTS & CULTURE magazine will now be known as the BUBBAWORLD COMIX MAGAZINE. It will still feature articles on the arts and culture thru the south but it will also have a comics section also. I will interview cartoonists, artists, writers... and we will take a look at restaurants and road trips and events and just what ever tickles our fancy. The comics section will be a monthly humor serial comic each month. I will begin with my title SPACE REDNECKS. It will run until we get thru the entire story and then we will start one of my other main six humor comic titles. The other five titles we will visit thru the years will be QUICK APPLIANCE REPAIR , MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGONS, DAWN OF TIME, CAPN' GEEZER, and GOING BATTY. So sit back , put the food tray in the upright position and get ready for take off.

BLOCK PRINTING Written by Andy B. Childress
Block printing is where you take a linoleum block or sheet and then you draw a design on it and take a carving tool and carve out the negative space. Once you have done that you roll some block print ink onto a glass with the roller and apply it to the block. You then take the block and either press it to paper or lay the paper on top of the block. You then have yourself a print.

That is the simplest way to describe block printing. I'm an artist. I do a lot of different types of are. I write and draw comics, paint and sculpt. Some artists tend to specialize in one area but a lot more tend to work in many different fields. I've used block printing to make business cards and you will see in these pictures. They're a little bigger than your normal business cards but they're actually a piece of art too. Block Printing goes back for years. Walter Anderson did a lot of wood block prints on the coast. He would make prints and then water color paint them also. I've actually

have started doing this myself. I did the prints of the chickens you see pictured on this page. They are actually a limited run of 33 of each. A run of plain black and white ink and a run of the ones I paint. There's a way you can build a press out of a hydrolic jack and even a repurposed caulk gun. I'm actually am looking into making one of these types for the printing I'm doing.

They even make ink to use on shirts and fabrics now for the block prints. I've been making shirts with some of my designs here lately. I have the Mississippi Geek shirt and a BWC shirt with my Herman the Psychotic Chicken on it. If you would like one of these shirts just email me at bubbaworldcomix@gmail.com . In later issues I will show how to make the Presses and here's a link on the youtubes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3_1Vq24A4E&t=7s&ytbChannel=bubbaworldcomix
of me actually making some shirts. In a later issue we're gonna check out my friend Emily's studio where she makes her block prints and sells them. If you Take up the craft just Try not to stab and Cut yourself too much.
SPACE REDNECKS : THERE GOES THE GALAXY Each month there will be an ongoing humor serial comic. You can read past SRN strips on the BWC homepage by clicking the archive link at the top of Archive 5's page. Http://bubbaworldcomix.weebly.com

A NEW CHILDREN'S BOOK “ARTHUR THE ABSENT MINDED WIZARD” Many years ago I was visiting some friends in the Hattiesburg area of Mississippi. They were both going to college at Southern at the time. One of them was writing a children's book for a school project and I did some quick illustrations for it. She made a couple of copies for me and her and the project and that was it.
Fast forward a couple of decades and those friends are married with kids of their own and I ran across my copy of the book. I called them up and suggested we actually put this book out. I have self published around 17 or so books right now so we decided to do this one too. Now you can get your own copy of ARTHUR THE ABSENT MINDED WIZARD for yourself and follow Arthur and his friend, Drew the Dragon, while they search for Arthur's wand. http://www.lulu.com/shop/stacy-tingle/arthur-the-absent-minde-wizard/paperback/product-23114531.html
COMING SOON April 29th Winston County Library “United We Read Big Book Giveaway event. The MAIN event I need to talk about is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. Every year on the first Saturday of May is known as FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. It's celebrated nation wide and participating comic book stores get in a bunch of titles of comics that are printed as promotions and given away for free. Most stores usually limit you to a certain number of comics so they will have enough for more people. Every year I go to 3 ALARM COMICS in Biloxi, MS and set up in the artist alley he has in his store every year. He brings in a bunch of us cartoonists every year and there is a huge turnout for it every Time. If you have a comic book store in your area then I suggest finding out if they are participating and go there that day. Even better, make a road trip to Biloix, MS and check them out. https://www.facebook.com/events/923512994417788/ 3 Alarm Comics is located at 15210 Lemoyne Blvd, Biloxi, Mississippi 39532

Just one more thing
There is some cool stuff out there on the interwebs and around I tells ya. I'm gonna point yall towards some of them. Let's start with some podcasts, shall we. http://strangenessinspace.com/ This is a comedy sci fi radio adventure that I really enjoyed. Sophie Aldred , who you may remember from the BBC as Ace. Ace was the companion for the 7th Doctor in Doctor Who. Well She's in this, I should know, she told me herself during an interview I conducted with her at Pensacon 2017 with my monster puppet Rosco. Here's a link to the interview ( just another cool thing on the interwebs. ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WphWpLDV8I&ytbChannel=bubbaworldcomix
While you're listening to podcasts, I discovered a cool one from a friend's suggestion just a few weeks ago and have been binging on it since. Http://lorepodcast.com For those of you that like a little horror and the macabre in your podcast then this is what you need to be listening to. Aaron Mahnke researches and produce the 20+ minutes podcasts about real horror legends and does a wonderful job at telling them. It's a must listen I know , I know... JUST “ONE” MORE THING page turned into the Just “THREE” more things , but , what are ya gonna do? Have a Bubbatastic Day my nerdlings and I'll see ya next month.
