FAMILY and MWR EVENTS MAGAZINE Welcome to summer

by Grace Meinhofer

At Fort Buchanan’s Family and MWR we work really hard, and play sorta hard but mainly we work. So we welcome the Summer season with many activities and special events for the entire Family to enjoy. In this edition we will focus on Military Spouses, Mothers Day, activities for Kids and how to take care of your Pet during the upcoming summer months. We have an exciting summer planned and hope you will stop by and visit. Here are a few things you should know as we head into our favorite season. Seasons offers a wide assortment of fun events for the entire family all summer long. Looking forward to our first Mango Festival on May 30-31 where you could try special recipes created by our Chefs from the Community Club all with Mango, Outdoors movies at the Club, BBQ’s, games and our Fourth of July Celebration with our traditional Fireworks display. So lets enjoy our summer days, when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, and we welcome you to our facilities.

Meet Ms. Neysa Maldonado Family & MWR Graphic Artist

What you can’t live without? My two sons Omar and Edwin & my extended family.

What are your hobbies? Jogging, reading, gardening, hiking, painting and going to the beach are the ones I enjoy most right now. What’s on your playlist? I have to say that classic rock is my music, though I enjoy many other genres.

Where do you look for inspiration? Faith, nature, art, books and the example of extraordinary people. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Whatever I do by then, I expect to have my heart on it.

What is your favorite thing about working for Family and MWR? We are constantly changing to stay in tune with trends & customer needs and I like that challenge. And of course, working with the dedicated team that makes Family MWR what it is.

CYSS Outreach Services Manager

Ms. Evelyn De La Cruz started working in Fort Buchanan as a summer hire in the CYSS Summer Camp in June 2000. After meeting her supervisor’s expectations she was kept in the program as CYSS flexible time employee. She combined for 15 years her regular job as a teacher in the Department of Education and work as a Child, Youth Program Assistant in the afternoons. While being a CYPA she served as a Chaperon in more than six (6) Youth Leadership Forums at Georgia, Virginia, Texas and Alabama, with teens of our CYSS Teen Center Program representing Fort Buchanan with a high degree of professionalism. Later she applied for a Training & Programming Specialist position in 2010 and was selected. In this

position Evelyn had the opportunity to enhance the Staff’s development by training them in appropriate practices and implementing the Army Four Service Areas when they plan activities through trainings and workshops. She was also certified as a Red Cross Instructor. She was tasked to do many other duties; such as working as the CDC Assistant Director for eight months, HIRED Program, Parent and Youth Education Plan, BGCA and providing support to the Parent Central Services Office when needed. In February 2012, Evelyn was detailed to oversee the CYSS Parent Central Services office, which was one of her biggest challenges. In March 2013, she was selected as the Official CYSS Outreach Services Director. She has expressed that her experience working in CYSS has taught her that “to accomplish the mission in any organization we must work as a team and believing it can be done! Each person is a key factor for the success of the Child, Youth, & School Services Programs.” By Carmen Dieppa, CYSS Chief
