DFMWR
The Army Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) is a comprehensive network of support and leisure services designed to enhance the lives of Soldiers, their Families, Civilian employees, Military Retirees and other eligible patrons. Over 250 employees strive to deliver the highest quality programs and services at Fort Buchanan from family, child and youth programs to recreation, sports, entertainment, travel and leisure activities. DFMWR exists because the U.S. Army is committed to the well-being of the community of people who serve and stand ready to defend our Country.

Fort Buchanan is an energetic military installation with a primary focus of meeting the needs of all. It serves and supports Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, Air Force, U.S. Navy Reserve personnel, Department of Defense Civilians, Veterans, Retirees, and Military Family members. The installation also supports federal agencies stationed in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

On Post Advertising
Our on post advertising locations are strategically chosen based on high visibility and traffic, both vehicle and pedestrian. Fort Buchanan has an average monthly traffic of 160,000 vehicles and more than 3,000 visitors per week.
Banners
Banners are placed at traffic intersection on main roads of the installation. Advertising fence on Depot Road is situated next to highly visited facilities like the tennis courts, picnic areas and Banco Popular. The stop light gives vehicles enough time to read the messages from a reasonable distance. Banner size 7’ width by 5’ height (banner must be provided by advertiser, DFMWR can print banner for an additional cost subject to approval).

4th of July Independence Day Celebration
Fort Buchanan’s largest event of the year. This family friendly outdoor event consists of live entertainment, carnival rides, games, food and beverage kiosks, and a spectacular fireworks finale. Fort Buchanan’s Holiday Season kick-off event. We start the afternoon with a Holiday Parade featuring Santa and the Three Kings greeting the community. Armed Forces Day
Sponsorship cost: $500.00 May is designated by the Department of Defense as the month to honor Men and Women who protect our Country and defend our Freedom. At Fort Buchanan, all branches of the Armed Forces are honored with a Run. Annual Programs
Better Opportunities For Single Soldiers (BOSS) A dynamic Department of the Army program that single Soldiers can participate in to enhance their quality of life, contribute to their community through Community Service activities, and assist in the planning and execution of their own Recreation and Leisure events. The BOSS program focuses on the Department of the Army active duty single Soldier, but BOSS activities are open to all DFMWR patrons to include the National Guard, Army Reserve, other branches of service, Department of Defense Civilians, Foreign Service members and geographical bachelors. BOSS program participants are between ages 21 to 40.

Sports and Fitness Annual sponsorship cost: $1,500.00 Provides Fort Buchanan a variety of recreational programs. The 17,000 sq. ft. center is equipped with its own racquetball, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts on base. The cardiovascular and weights area are equipped with top of the line machines and it offers group fitness programs with the latest techniques. Services include lockers, showers and saunas.
Runs
Four major runs are scheduled throughout the year for Active Duty, Federal, DoD employees and their Family Members with attendance of 100 runners per race. March: St. Patrick’s 10K Run August: Perimeter 5.2 mile Run May: Armed Forces Day Run November: Turkey Trot 6 mile Run

Army Ten Miler Fort Buchanan Team

Starting in January of each year, the Sports and Fitness Program invites all interested active duty community members to participate in training sessions for the Army Ten Miler held in Washington, DC every October. This group trains under the supervision of a volunteer coach who monitors the progress of the group members. A final tryout is held in June to determine which eight members will comprise the Fort Buchanan Team. The criteria used are based on best run times and their attendance to practices.
Fort Buchanan Community Club & Conference Center Annual sponsorship cost: $1,500.00 The Community Club and Conference Center serves as the cornerstone for the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. The facilities are transformed for various events throughout the year: New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, Easter Sunday and Mother’s Day to name a few. It is also the site for many Garrison events. Weekends are witness to many Weddings, Quinceañeros (Sweet Fifteen) and other Social Events. Annual sponsorship cost: $1,500.00 State of the art facility with 18 lanes certified by the Pro Bowlers Association. It offers a variety of adult mixed leagues that run year round and a junior program for children ages 6 to 21. Child, Youth & School Services (CYSS) Annual sponsorship cost: $1,500.00 CYSS provides quality child development options to reduce the conflict between parental responsibilities and unit requirements. It offers the Military community quality appropriate child and youth programs that are affordable, accountable, and available through a seamless delivery system.
Month of The Military Child

April has been designated by the Army as Month of the Military Child. The intention of this campaign is to recognize Military children for the challenges they face as part of a Military Family. Events are held at the installation’s schools and at all Child, Youth and School Services facilities. Golf Course Annual sponsorship cost: $1,500.00 First Class Golf Course consistent with the established standards of the United States Golf Association (USGA). The nine-hole course provides an 18 hole round of over 6,300 yards with a rating of 72 and a slope of 128. It has everything you might need to play a round; electric carts with GPS, pull carts and rental clubs. The driving range is available with nine hitting stations along with practice greens, bunkers and a five hole par three practice course. A Snack Bar and Pro Shop are open daily offering service to golf enthusiasts.

Annual sponsorship cost: $1,500.00 The only year-round aquatics center on a U.S. Army base. The facility has a pool from zero to four feet deep with an octopus ride, lilly pads, net crossings and water slides, both open and closed. Deck and shade areas with lounges and picnic tables are available. Professionally trained life guards are on duty at all times. Water aerobics and swimming lessons are offered year-round. The facility is available for private events and birthday parties.
