WITH A VICTORY THE BISON WOULD... • snap a four-game losing skid against the Raiders • defeat Colgate at Christy-Mathewson Memorial Stadium for the first time since 2006, halting a five-game losing streak • knock off a ranked team for the first time since 2013 • get off to a 2-0 start in Patriot League play for the first time since 2014 (the Bison won their first three league games that season) BUCKNELL AT A GLANCE • The Bison are currently 1-4 (1-0 Patriot League) on the season. • Bucknell finished 2017 with a 5-6 (2-4 PL) record. The Bison, who took sixth in the Patriot League a year ago, were chosen to tie for fifth with Lafayette in the 2018 preseason poll, as voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors. • Bucknell returned a total of 41 letterwinners in 2018. That group includes 14 seniors, 17 juniors and 10 sophomores. Eight seniors—WR Alan Butler, DL Alex Jordan, S Joe Lauro, CB Bryan Marine, CB Fisayo Oluleye, TE/FB Andrew Owers, P Alex Pechin and LB Matt Robinson—are three-time letterwinners. • OL Pat Finn, Lauro, Marine and Pechin are serving as team captains in 2018. • The Bison have led the Patriot League in total defense six of the past seven seasons, including five years in a row from 2011 to 2015. In 2017, they finished fourth nationally in passing defense (148.3) and 11th in total defense (294.6). • Bucknell is currently tied for fourth in the FCS with 13 turnovers gained on eight fumble recoveries and five interceptions. The Bison are just one outside of first. • QB Logan Bitikofer has completed 49 of 88 passes for 430 yards and three touchdowns. RB Jared Cooper is the team leader in rushing yards (279) while WR Brandon Sanders has paced the Bison in receiving yards (190). • Through four games, three Bison have made at least 40 tackles: Lauro (46), Marine (43) and LB Sam Chitty (41). Chitty and LB Simeon Page are tied for the team lead with eight tackles for a loss, a total tied for 11th in the FCS. INSIDE THE HOLY CROSS BOX SCORE • Bucknell withstood a furious Holy Cross comeback to win its Patriot League opener, 19-16. It was the Bison’s third-straight victory over the Crusaders at Fitton Field. • The Bison built a 19-7 lead on a 36-yard touchdown rush by RB Jared Cooper and a 22-yard touchdown throw by QB Logan Bitikofer to WR Alan Butler. • While Holy Cross drew within a field goal at the fourth quarter’s 6:57 mark, Bucknell drained 6:13 off the clock by marching from its 18 to the Crusader 26 in 13 plays. • Following a missed 43-yard field goal attempt, Holy Cross got the ball back with 36 seconds remaining in regulation. After QB Geoff Wade had three passes fall incomplete, the Crusaders went for it on 4th and 10. S Joe Lauro came up with his second pass breakup of the sequence to seal the victory. • Cooper led the Bison with 75 yards on 24 carries. All but 19 of his yards came during the Bison’s second-half surge, which saw them post 205 of their season-best 280 yards of total offense. • Bitikofer completed 19 of 29 passes for a career-high 193 yards while WR Brandon Sanders totaled a career-best 97 yards on six catches. • K Ethan Torres kicked the first two field goals of his career during the first half. • CB Bryan Marine registered 75 yards on five punt returns, bolstered by his clutch 67-yard run which set up Torres’s second field goal. • Lauro and LB Sam Chitty paced Bucknell’s defense with 11 tackles (seven solo) apiece. In total, the Bison registered 12 tackles for a loss of 50 yards, with DE Grayson Cherubino and LB Simeon Page leading the way with three apiece. • For their efforts against the Crusaders, Cooper captured his second Patriot League Rookie of the Week award while Lauro was named the Bison Athlete of the Week. N0. 20/21 COLGATE AT A GLANCE • The No. 20/21 Raiders are currently 4-0 (2-0 Patriot League). They are one of four unbeaten teams remaining in the FCS, joining Dartmouth (Ivy League), North Dakota State (Missouri Valley Football Conference) and Princeton (Ivy League). • Colgate blanked its last two opponents: Lafayette (45-0) and William & Mary (23-

BISON NOTES 0). It was the first time since 1966 the Raiders blanked back-to-back opponents. • Colgate has outscored its opponents by a combined margin of 102-20. • The Raiders are the FCS leaders in scoring defense (5.0) and red zone defense (.333); no other team has allowed an average of fewer than eight points per game, and no other program boasts a red zone defense south of .500. • Colgate also ranks in the FCS’s top 10 in turnover margin (t-2nd, 2.25), total defense (6th, 260.5), time of possession (7th, 34:12) and rushing defense (9th, 88.3). • The Raiders, who went 7-4 (5-1 PL) a year ago, were picked to win the Patriot League in the 2018 preseason poll. Ten Raiders made the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, including Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Nick Wheeler. THE BUCKNELL/COLGATE SERIES • Colgate leads the all-time series, 49-17, and has won nine of the past 10 meetings. • A season ago, the Raiders toppled the Bison, 40-3, in Hamilton, N.Y. • The Raiders currently hold a four-game winning streak over the Bison. They have also taken the last five games played at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. • Bucknell last downed Colgate on Nov. 2, 2013, a 28-7 victory at Andy Kerr Stadium. It was the Bison’s first win over the Raiders since 2006 and their first in Hamilton, N.Y. since 1999. • In the last meeting at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium on Oct. 15, 2016, QB Jake Melville ran for two touchdowns and threw for one more to lead Colgate to a 27-7 win. For the Bison, QB John Chiarolanzio made his collegiate debut, coming off the bench to complete 11 of 19 passes for 139 yards and one score. THE LAST MEETING WITH THE RAIDERS Colgate 40 – Bucknell 3 (Oct. 28, 2017 – Hamilton, N.Y.) • Colgate scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to down Bucknell, 40-3. LB Nick Ioanilli intercepted a pair of passes for the Raiders, directly leading to two of those scores. • In the first half, Colgate outgained Bucknell, 293-63, and held a 15-4 advantage in first downs. The tables turned in the second half, with the Bison holding edges in yards (169-93) and first downs (10-4). • DL Abdullah Anderson and S Joe Lauro each blocked his first extra point. It was Anderson’s fourth career blocked kick, as he previously blocked three field goals. • In the third quarter, Anderson corralled a pass that was deflected by LB Mark Pyles on Colgate’s 12-yard line. While the Bison reached the one-yard line, a fumbled hand-off ultimately gave the Raiders the ball back on their seven-yard line. • QB Matt Muh entered the game in the second half and threw for 133 yards on 11 for 23 passing. QB John Chiarolanzio completed five of 10 passes for 37 yards. • WRs Justin Bethea (48) and Mike Balzofiore (41) led the Bison in receiving yards, both setting a new career high in the process. Bethea later eclipsed his total in the 2017 finale at Fordham. • Defensively, S Brandon Benson (12) and LB Simeon Page (11) paced Bucknell. • Colgate went 6-for-6 on its red-zone chances, scoring six touchdowns. Bucknell Football Falls at Colgate The Bucknell football team fell to Colgate, 40-3, at Andy Kerr Stadium. The Raiders (5-4, 3-1 Patriot League) used an explosive second quarter to down the Bison (4-4, 1-2 Patriot League), snapping their two-game winning streak in the process. At the end of the first quarter, Colgate held a slim 6-3 edge. The Raiders opened the scoring on their first drive of the game when James Holland finished off a seven-play, 75-yard drive with a 13-yard touchdown run. During that drive, Holland rushed for 38 yards on four carries while Grant Breneman completed a 38-yard pass to Thomas Ives. Joe Lauro blocked the point-after attempt to keep it a 6-0 game. The Bison got on the board with 3:42 on the clock in the first quarter. After a short punt, Bucknell took over on the 50-yard line. On back-to-back plays, John Chiarolanzio completed a pass of at least 10 yards, first finding Omar Garcia for a 13-yard gain and then connecting with Andrew Podbielski for an 11-yard gain. While the Bison advanced as far as Colgate’s eight-yard line, they ultimately were forced to settle for a 28-yard John Burdick field goal. The Raiders broke open the game in the second quarter, scoring four unanswered touchdowns to build a 33-3 halftime lead. At the 13:45 mark, Ives hauled in a 12-yard pass from Breneman to cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive that began with 3:42 left to play in the first quarter. On the first play of Bucknell’s next drive, Nick Ioanilli made a leaping play to pick off a pass at the Bison 40. Colgate took advantage of having a short field, with Breneman scrambling out of the pocket and finding Ives in the corner of the end zone for a 20-yard score three plays later. The Raiders extended their lead to 26-3 at the 6:01 mark after Breneman dove just inside the right pylon to score a six-yard touchdown. His quarterback keeper completed an eight-play, 61-yard drive. With 1:44 left to play in the half, the Bison took over on their own 43 after a short punt. But Ioanilli intercepted his second pass of the game to give Colgate the ball at the Bucknell 41. The Raiders again capitalized, with Breneman finding Nick Diaco for a five-yard score after a pass interference penalty took them from the 20-yard line to the five. In the first half, Colgate outgained Bucknell, 293-63, and held a 15-4 advantage in first downs. The tables turned in the second half, with the Bison holding edges in yards (169-93) and first downs (10-4). Bucknell’s best opportunity to cut into Colgate’s lead came at the 6:17 mark of the third quarter after Mark Pyles deflected a Breneman pass and Abdullah Anderson made an athletic play to come up with the ball on Colgate’s 12-yard line. Matt Muh connected with Marquis Carter on the first play, and Tyler Castillo pushed him out of bounds one yard shy of the end zone. A play later, John Steffen recovered a fumble on the Raider seven-yard line to keep the Bison from getting on the board again. Alex Mathews completed the game’s scoring with 1:41 remaining in regulation with a threeyard touchdown run. After Mathew’s score, Bucknell advanced to Colgate’s five-yard line, with Muh orchestrating a 13-play, 65-yard drive. During that drive, he completed three passes of at least 10 yards to three different receivers—Mike Balzofiore (12), Podbielski (15) and Justin Bethea (14)—and also rushed for a career-long 17 yard gain. But, in the final second, Muh’s pass to Balzofiore fell incomplete in the end zone.

GAME NOTES • With the loss, the Bison had their winning streak in season openers snapped at seven games. They are now 7-2 in season openers under head coach Joe Susan. • Bucknell moved to 92-40-1 in season openers and 97-34-1 in home openers all time. • This was the first time the Bison held the Tribe under 30 points; William & Mary dispatched Bucknell by a combined margin of 183-45 in their previous five meetings, an average spread of 27.6 points. • S Joe Lauro made his 150th career tackle and 100th career solo tackle during the game. • QB John Chiarolanzio started his first career season opener; the junior had started eight games previously but never Bucknell’s first of the season. • WR Brandon Sanders was the lone freshman to start the 2018 opener. He ultimately led the Bison with 59 receiving yards on four catches, bolstered by a 21-yard reception on Bucknell’s final drive of the game. • Six Bison earned their first career start in the 2018 opener: RB Marquis Carter, OL Justis Peppers, DE Sean Naiman, LB Matt Robinson, Sanders and DL Jimmy Sheehan. Sheehan, a junior, and Peppers, a sophomore, had yet to appear in a game before their start against William & Mary.

The Bucknell football team’s defense stood tall all night, but William & Mary prevailed, 14-7, in the season opener for both teams at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Tribe entered the fourth quarter with a 7-0 lead thanks to an early touchdown. On the first play of that frame, Joe Schiano came up with a strip sack to give the Bison the ball at William & Mary’s 36-yard line. Five plays later, Marquis Carter scampered 12 yards into the end zone; a good extra point by Jack Chambers made it a 7-7 game. But the Tribe was quick to respond. On the second play of its next drive, Shon Mitchell connected with DeVonte Dedmon for a 75-yard score that proved to be the difference in a defensive battle played in front of 5,042 fans. After Dedmon’s go-ahead touchdown, Bucknell had three drives and advanced as far as William & Mary’s 36-yard line. Near the middle of the frame, John Chiarolanzio led the Bison from their one-yard line to their 47 in 12 plays, but a fumble ultimately stalled that promising possession. Bucknell later got the ball back with 1:14 left to play, and Chiarolanzio found Brandon Sanders for a 21-yard gain and Jared Cooper for a 10-yard gain on back-to-back plays to bring the Bison faithful to their feet. But the game ended when Cooper caught a pass over the middle and was tackled in bounds short of a first down. On that play, a Bucknell player was injured; because there was 10 seconds left on the clock and Bucknell was out of timeouts, the game came to an end on the 10-second runoff rule. The Tribe controlled the first quarter, using a lengthy game-opening drive to build a 10:46 to 4:14 edge in time of possession. William & Mary’s first touchdown came at the 6:13 mark, with Mitchell capping a 15-play, 68-yard drive that began 11 seconds into the game with a two-yard quarterback keeper score. Early in that drive, Albert Funderburke rushed for 14 yards and Owen Wright dashed for a 13-yard gain on back-to-back plays to bring the Tribe from its 44 to the Bison 29. Bucknell had an opportunity to tie the game on its next possession after Chiarolanzio orchestrated a seven-play, 54-yard drive to William & Mary’s 21-yard line. Isaiah Laster ultimately intercepted a Chiarolanzio pass intended for Stefone Moore-Green in the corner of the end zone to keep the Bison off the board. During the second quarter, the teams traded possessions, one of which ended in a Tribe missed field goal, before William & Mary rattled off another long march. From the 10:54 to the 1:44 mark of that quarter, the Tribe traversed 55 yards in 16 plays, most of which were short rushes. But that drive came to an end at Bucknell’s 10-yard line after Fisayo Oluleye forced Funderburke out of bounds for a loss of four yards and then picked off a Mitchell pass in the end zone. After forcing a quick three and out, William & Mary got the ball back with 1:18 remaining in regulation. The Tribe had a 43-yard Dedmon touchdown catch called back due to an illegal block with 16 seconds left to play, and the Bison went to the locker room down by only a touchdown despite being outgained 226-93 and having the ball for just seven minutes and 17 seconds. Chiarolanzio finished with 143 yards on 20-for-32 passing, connecting with eight different receivers. Sanders, a freshman, led all Bison receivers with 59 yards on four receptions. On the ground, Carter ran for a career-best 81 yards on 18 carriers; he also posted 13 receiving yards on three catches. Defensively, Joe Lauro (11) and Bryan Marine (10) reached the double digits in tackles. Four Bison recorded a sack: Schiano, Blake Fletcher, Simeon Page and Nnamdi Unachukwu. Schiano and Unachukwu were both making their collegiate debut. William & Mary held advantages in total offense (348-257), first downs (20-11) and time of possession (37:25-22:35). Bucknell chipped into its deficit during the second half; at halftime, the Tribe was up 226-93 in total offense, 15-3 in first downs and 22:43-7:17 in time of possession

The Bucknell football team fell to Sacred Heart, 30-14, in its Hero Appreciation Game on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Pioneers (2-0) powered past the Bison (0-2) behind strong showings by running back Jordan Meachum and quarterback Kevin Duke, who combined for 282 yards on the ground. While Bucknell took a 14-7 lead on a 54-yard pick 6 by Fisayo Oluleye in the middle of the second quarter, Sacred Heart scored 23 unanswered points the rest of the way to knock off its second-straight Patriot League opponent. The Pioneer defense had a strong showing, limiting the Bison to 178 yards of total offense and eight first downs over the course of the contest. Salaam Horne led the way with 10 tackles (six solo) while Chris Agyemang added three tackles for a loss and two sacks. In total, the Sacred Heart defense recorded five sacks for a loss of 36 yards and 11 tackles for a loss of 48 yards. Defense was the story of the first quarter as Bucknell and Sacred Heart combined for just five first downs and 91 yards of total offense. The Pioneers opened the scoring at the 10:23 mark, with Meachum breaking free for a 30-yard touchdown rush to cap their first drive of the game. While Stefone Moore-Greene returned the kickoff following Meachum’s touchdown a career-long 66 yards to the Sacred Heart 34, the Bison couldn’t take advantage of their favorable field position to even the score. The Pioneer defense stood tall, with Robert Steffe sacking John Chiarolanzio for a loss of eight yards to bring up fourth down and force Bucknell to go three and out. The Bison got on the board with 13:24 on the clock in the second quarter. Brandon Sanders became the first Bucknell freshman to find the end zone, taking a handoff from Chiarolanzio and bursting through a seam for a four-yard touchdown rush. Sanders’s run capped a nine-play, 36yard drive that began at the first quarter’s 2:05 mark following an explosive 31-yard punt return by Bryan Marine. On their next possession, the Bison took over at Sacred Heart’s 19-yard line thanks to a muffed snap on a punt. But consecutive false start penalties pushed them back to the Pioneer 28, and two passes fell incomplete. Ultimately, a 41-yard field goal attempt by Jack Chambers was short, keeping the score at 7-7. Bucknell took the lead less than two minutes later when Oluleye stepped in front of a Duke pass and returned it 54 yards to the end zone. It was Oluleye’s second interception of the young season and the Bison’s first pick 6 since Colin Jonov and Drew Newcomb both returned interceptions for touchdowns at Lafayette on Oct. 21, 2017. The Pioneers got the ball back with 1:59 left in the first half and ultimately evened the score on a seven-yard touchdown catch by Nathan Balthazard. A highlight of their seven-play, 60-yard scoring drive was a 48-yard catch by Andrew O’Neill that brought them from their 37-yard line to Bucknell’s 15. Sacred Heart carried the momentum from its last-minute scoring drive into the third quarter. On back-to-back plays, Meachum rushed for 29- and 33-yard gains to bring the Pioneers from their 28-yard line to the Bison 10. Two plays later, with 12:48 on the clock, Duke scored on a nineyard quarterback keeper to give his team the lead for good. Sacred Heart controlled the fourth quarter, holding onto the ball for nearly 10 minutes to finish the game with a 35:00 to 25:00 advantage in time of possession. The Pioneers extended their advantage to 30-14 on a 30-yard Josh Freiria field goal at the 7:06 mark and a 32-yard Noel Hijazi fumble recovery score as time expired.

GAME NOTES • CB Bryan Marine became the first Bison to intercept two passes in a single game since S Connor Golden did so against Charleston Southern in 2016. Marine previously intercepted two passes as a freshman at Lafayette on Oct. 31, 2015. • Marine’s two interceptions gave him nine in his career. He became the Patriot League’s active leader and moved one interception away from entering Bucknell’s top eight. • S Joe Lauro and LB Simeon Page tied for the team lead with eight tackles apiece. In addition, Lauro and LB Sam Chitty each registered a team-best 1.5 tackles for a loss. • Bucknell forced five turnovers for the first time since Sept. 3, 2016 at Marist. Beyond Marine’s two interceptions, CB Sterling Deary, S Chanse Riley and S Brice Sydnor recovered fumbles. Deary, a freshman, also forced the fumble that was recovered by Riley. • Despite enduring eight sacks, QB Logan Bitikofer only lost a net of 16 yards. He gained 29 yards on the ground, with a long of seven. • Penn held a 10-0 advantage in sacks. DL Cooper Gardner paced the Quakers with three sacks for a loss of 18 yards. • With its victory, Penn stretched its winning streak over Bucknell to seven games.

The Bucknell football team battled back from a 24-point deficit to draw as close as 10, but Penn held on for a 34-17 victory in its season opener on Saturday afternoon at historic Franklin Field. While the Bison scored two unanswered touchdowns to make it a two-possession game early in the third quarter, the Quakers’ lead proved insurmountable. Logan Bitikofer, who took over at quarterback halfway through the second frame, energized Bucknell, completing 19 of 35 passes for two touchdowns and 150 yards. After the teams combined for 37 points on four touchdowns and three field goals in an explosive first half, each team scored one touchdown apiece during the second half. Penn completed the scoring at the 10:21 mark of the fourth quarter on an 11-yard touchdown catch by Kolton Huber; the Quakers held the Bison off the scoreboard the rest of the way, forcing three three and outs and intercepting a pass with 22 seconds remaining in regulation to ice the game. For Bucknell, Bryan Marine picked off two passes, returning them a combined 34 yards. Also the primary kickoff and punt return man, he finished with a game- and career-high total of 156 all-purpose yards. Jared Cooper also eclipsed 100 all-purpose yards, finishing with 109 on team-best totals in rushing (58) and receiving (51) yards. In the first five minutes of the game, Penn raced out to a 17-0 lead by taking advantage of two Bison turnovers and a blocked punt. After Jacob Martin picked off John Chiarolanzio’s first pass, the Quakers took over at the Bucknell 36; Karekin Brooks ultimately capped that abbreviated drive with a five-yard touchdown rush. On the resulting kickoff, Justin Morrison recovered a fumble at the Bison 27 to again give Penn a short field to work with. Bucknell’s defense held fast, with Joe Lauro tying up Abe Willows for a loss of five yards and Marine coming up with a critical pass breakup to force the Quakers to settle for a 49-yard field goal. After the Bison went three and out on their next possession, Patrick McGettigan blocked a punt and James McCarthy came up with the ball to set up the Penn offense on Bucknell’s seven-yard line. One play later, at the 10:12 mark, Brooks broke free for his second touchdown run. A 34-yard field goal by Jack Chambers got the Bison on the board with 4:58 on the clock in the first quarter. But, by the 11:59 mark of the second quarter, the Quakers had extended their lead to 27-3 thanks to a 48-yard field goal and an acrobatic, 33-yard touchdown catch by Tyler Herrick. Bucknell found the end zone for the first time with 3:37 remaining in the first half. After Sterling Deary forced a fumble, and Chanse Riley recovered it at the Penn 32, Bitikofer capped the abbreviated drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Alan Butler. It was Butler’s first touchdown catch of the season and third of his career. The Bison had an opportunity to cut further into their deficit in the final minutes of the frame, marching to the Quaker’s 16-yard line on a drive highlighted by a 25-yard Cooper rush. But Bitikofer was sacked for a loss of six yards, and back-to-back incomplete passes forced Bucknell to try for a 36-yard field goal. Chambers’s bid went wide left, and Penn went to the locker room up, 27-10. The Bison scored the third quarter’s lone touchdown two minutes into the frame. Marine set up the score by intercepting his first pass of the game and returning it 26 yards to the Penn 14. Two plays later, Bitikofer found Andrew Owers for an 11-yard touchdown, his first score since October 2016. Bucknell held a slim lead in time of possession (30:22-29:38) but was outgained by a 274-189 margin. The Quaker defense totaled 10 sacks for a loss of 60 yards and 14 tackles for a loss of 65 yards, cutting significantly into the Bison’s offensive totals.

No. 14/15 Villanova downed the Bucknell football team, 49-7, at Villanova Stadium in the first meeting between the Pennsylvania programs since 2005. The Bison, who last faced a ranked opponent during the 2016 campaign, were stymied by a slow start for the second-straight game. During the first quarter, the high-powered Wildcats stormed out to a 28-0 lead. They needed just 12 offensive plays to score their four touchdowns, three of which came on the ground and one of which was a school-record 90-yard bomb by Zach Bednarczyk to Josh McGrigg. In total, they racked up 230 yards of offense and limited the Bison to just 32, all but three of which came through the air. Bucknell got on the board at the 7:56 mark of the second quarter, capitalizing on a Villanova fumble during a punt return. Ryan Brida forced the fumble, and Mike Colantuono came up with the ball at the Wildcat 12. Three plays later, Logan Bitikofer scored his first career rushing touchdown on a one-yard quarterback keeper. In total, the Bison defense forced three turnovers during the second frame. First, Brice Sydnor picked off a pass in the end zone to halt a promising Villanova drive. Then came Colantuono’s clutch recovery in the red zone. Finally, Matt Robinson forced a fumble, which was recovered by Bryan Marine, a play after Bednarczyk found McGrigg for a 48-yard gain to the Bucknell 16. But, one play later, a Bitikofer pass was intercepted by Jaquan Amos and returned to the one-yard line; Aaron Forbes ran for his second touchdown one play later to make it a 35-7 game. The Wildcats covered 86 yards in seven plays, five of which were passes for at least 10 yards, to extend their lead to 42-7 entering the locker room. A two-yard quarterback keeper by Bednarczyk capped that drive with 16 seconds left in the half. At the half, Villanova held a 434-61 lead in total offense. Bednarczyk had 266 yards on just nine passes, five of which went to McGrigg for 187 yards. In addition, four Wildcats had at least 35 yards on the ground. Bucknell only allowed 400 yards once in 2017, in a 35-13 loss to FCS Championship participant Monmouth. Villanova, which pulled Bednarczyk early in the third quarter, completed the game’s scoring at the 14:56 mark of the fourth quarter. A four-yard touchdown rush by D’Andre Pollard capped a 10-play, 40-yard drive. In the dying minutes of the game, the Bison had an opportunity to find the end zone once again. After Simeon Page and Sam Chitty combined for a sack on 4th and 9, Bucknell took over at its 39 with 4:48 on the clock. Bitikofer led the Bison to the Wildcat 12, most notably finding Stefone Moore-Greene for 29 yards on three-straight passes. But the Bison came up just short of a first down on 4th and 11 at the Villanova 13, with Bitikofer connecting with Dominic Lyles for only eight yards. For the Bison, Bitikofer completed 11 of 24 passes for 87 yards. Moore-Green’s 29 receiving yards, all of which came in succession in the fourth quarter, led the team. Jared Cooper paced Bucknell with 28 yards on the ground. Defensively, Conner Romango led the Bison with a career-best 12 tackles (nine solo) while Chitty was next with a career-high 11 (six solo). Chitty also made a team season-best 3.5 tackles for a loss while Page posted a team-high 1.5 sacks. Preseason All-American Alex Pechin had a sensational game, averaging a career-high 51 yards on nine punts. He landed four inside the 20 and had five sail for at least 50 yards, including a career-long 71-yard bomb that pinned Villanova at its two-yard line. The Wildcats finished with a 609-128 advantage in total offense; they had near equal totals of rushing (302) and receiving (307) yards.

The Bucknell football team withstood a furious Holy Cross comeback to win its Patriot League opener, 19-16, at Fitton Field. The Bison (1-4, 1-0 PL) built a 19-7 lead on a 36-yard touchdown rush by Jared Cooper and a 22-yard touchdown throw by Logan Bitikofer to Alan Butler. While the Crusaders (1-4, 0-2 PL) responded with a safety and a touchdown of their own to draw within a field goal at the 6:57 mark of the fourth quarter, Bucknell’s offense drained 6:13 off the clock by marching from its 18-yard line to Holy Cross’s 26 in 13 plays. Following a missed 43-yard field goal attempt, the Crusaders got the ball back with 36 seconds remaining in regulation. After Geoff Wade had three passes fall incomplete, Holy Cross went for it on 4th and 10. Joe Lauro came up with his second pass breakup of the sequence to seal the victory, leveling Richie DeNicola at midfield and knocking the ball away in the process. Cooper, who was awarded the Johnny Turco Memorial Trophy as the Most Outstanding Player of Holy Cross’s Homecoming Day Game, led the Bison with 75 yards on 24 carries. All but 19 of his yards came during the Bison’s second-half surge, which saw them post 205 of their season-best 280 yards of total offense. At halftime, Bucknell trailed by a 7-6 margin. The Bison took their first lead of the game at the third quarter’s 9:25 mark on Cooper’s first career touchdown. The freshman broke two tackles and then outraced two Crusaders to the end zone, giving Bucknell a 12-7 advantage; the Bison attempted a two-point conversion, but Bitikofer’s pass fell incomplete. A clutch fumble recovery by Roger Mellado at Holy Cross’s 27-yard line set up Butler’s second touchdown of the season. That score, which came with 11:06 remaining in regulation, proved to be the difference as the Crusaders came roaring back. On the possession after Butler’s diving touchdown, Wade hit DeNicola in stride for a 72-yard gain. DeNicola appeared destined for the end zone, but Lauro and Bryan Marine caught him at the Bison’s 10-yard line, setting up their goal-line stand. After Domenic Cozier picked up nine yards on two carries to bring the Crusaders to the one-yard line, Mellado stopped Wade on 3rd and 1 and Marine and Page teamed to halt Cozier on 4th and 1 to give Bucknell the ball back. Holy Cross ultimately picked up a safety two plays later to cut its deficit to 19-9. After forcing the Bison to go three and out on their next possession, Wade found DeNicola for a 59-yard touchdown to make it a 19-16 game. During the first quarter, the Crusaders limited the Bison to 21 yards of total offense and a single first down. They jumped out to the lead at the 4:46 mark, with Cozier muscling his way into the end zone from seven yards out to cap an 11-play, 81-yard drive. Bucknell regrouped in the second frame, using the first two field goals of Ethan Torres’s career to trim Holy Cross’s advantage to 7-6. Both of Torres’s field goals, which came from 26 and 18 yards out, were set up by big plays. First, Bitikofer found Brandon Sanders for a 46-yard gain to set up the Bison at the Crusaders’ nine-yard line. Torres was ultimately called out to kick a field goal with 12:49 on the clock after a pair of Bitikofer passes fell incomplete and Cooper was tied up by Chris Riley for no gain. Bucknell forced Holy Cross to punt on its next possession. And Marine returned that 50-yard bomb by Derek Ng a career-long and team season-best 67 yards. Marine slipped free of an early tackle, found open field and flew down the visiting sideline all the way to the Crusaders’ 13-yard line before being dragged down. A pass interference penalty brought the Bison to the two-yard line, but the Holy Cross defense held fast to keep them out of the end zone. After Cooper gained one yard on a pair of carries, the Crusaders stuffed Bitikofer on third and goal; Torres then kicked his second field goal with 7:34 left in the half to pull Bucknell within a single point. The Bison defense was the story of the second quarter. They held Holy Cross to just 11 yards of total offense and four first downs. Grayson Cherubino and Simeon Page led the defensive surge, each recording 1.5 sacks for a combined loss of 27 yards in the frame.
