The term “student-athlete” signifies something extraordinary on the campus of Bucknell University. Bucknell Bison Athletics Setting the Standard of Excellence
Bucknell takes great pride in its commitment to excellence on and off the playing fields. From Presidents’ Cups to Academic All-Americans to graduation rates that are ranked annually in the national top-10, Bucknell is clearly at the head of the class when it comes to upholding the scholar-athlete ideal. •
According to federal data released by the NCAA each fall, Bucknell’s studentathlete graduation rate annually ranks in the top 10 among all Division I institutions. Bucknell has led the nation in graduation rates twice in the last 10 years, and it ranked No. 2 in the 2008 study. In the most recent survey in the fall of 2009, Bucknell ranked No. 8 in the nation.

Bucknell has claimed a league-high 119 Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the Year since the league’s inception as an all-sports conference in 1990-91.

A total of 379 Bison appeared on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2009-10 after recording a GPA of 3.2 or better during their sport’s competition season. Among all BU student-athletes, 255 made the Dean’s List with GPAs of 3.5 or better in the spring of 2009.

In addition to the 119 Capital One Academic All-Americans produced since 1970, Bucknell has also claimed 293 Academic All-District honorees over the same span, including a school-record 22 in 2008-09 and 17 more in 200910.

With a school-record-tying eight Patriot League championships in 2009-10, Bucknell has now earned 81 crowns in 20 years in the league. In addition, Bucknell has had 109 conference players of the year, 89 PL coaches of the year and a whopping 491 individual league champions from sports such as cross country, track & field, swimming & diving, tennis and golf.

Bucknell has captured the Patriot League Presidents’ Cup, signifying the league’s all-sports champion, 16 times in the 20-year history of the affiliation, including 12 of the last 13 years. Bucknell claimed the overall, men’s and women’s Cup titles in 2009-10. It was the 13th straight year and the 16th time overall that the Bison took home the women’s title. In 2009-10, Bucknell won Patriot League titles in women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s indoor track & field, women’s outdoor track & field, men’s outdoor track & field, women’s rowing, baseball and softball. Additionally, the women’s water polo team captured the CWPA Southern Division championship, and the wrestling team sent four student-athletes to the NCAA Championships and produced two All-Americans.

A major element in ensuring Bucknell’s commitment to athletics excellence is the Kenneth G. Langone Athletics & Recreation Center, which opened fully in 2003. One of the finest collegiate athletics facilities of its kind, the center includes the 4,000-seat Sojka Pavilion, the Olympic class Kinney Natatorium, the Krebs Family Fitness Center and the Berger Family Weight Room. A Hall of Fame area, a display of Bucknell’s Medal of Honor recipients, a new Academic All-America wall, a sports medicine suite, modern offices for coaches and staff, and locker room and classroom space are also included in the facility’s layout.

Bucknell Bison Athletics
A National Model in Promoting the Scholar-Athlete Ideal Bucknell Athletics is first and foremost a student-centered organization, one that strives to be a national model when it comes to operating by a true scholar-athlete model. At Bucknell, student-athletes’ academic programs are their first priority, and providing a competitive Division I athletics program only advances the mission, values and residential learning goals of the university. To that end, the Department of Athletics and Recreation proactively seeks ways to assist student-athletes in their daily academic pursuits. Below are just some of the student-athlete support programs currently in place. FACULTY ATHLETICS REPRESENTATIVE: The faculty athletics representative (FAR) is a member of the faculty or administrative staff who is designated to represent Bucknell in its relationships with the NCAA and the Patriot League. Bucknell’s FAR is Mitch Chernin, Professor of Biology. The FAR can enhance the student-athlete experience by promoting a balance between academics, athletics and the social lives of student-athletes, which affords them opportunities to enjoy the full range of collegiate experiences available to students generally. SIDELINE COACH PROGRAM: This program is a truly unique initiative in Division I college athletics, and it involves the invitation of a member of the faculty, administration, staff or community by one of Bucknell’s 27 varsity teams. The participant has the opportunity to discuss the overall program with the respective coaching staff, including practice preparation and strategy for the upcoming contest. The sideline coach attends a practice session and an actual intercollegiate competition, where he/she is introduced to the team and gains rarely seen insight into the relationships that exist between player-coach and player-player. The purpose of the Sideline Coaches Program is to foster a better understanding by the faculty and administration of the roles played by coaches and athletes in the university’s competitive intercollegiate athletic arena. ACADEMIC ENHANCEMENT CENTER: In the Fall of 2005, the Department of Athletics opened a study/computer lab for student-athletes on the concourse level of Sojka Pavilion. The center is outfitted with computers, a laser printer, four television monitors and a projection unit with computer, VCR and DVD player. Additionally, the study lab can be used as a meeting place for group projects, tutorial area or just a secluded and quiet study space before or after practice. LAPTOP PROGRAM: The Department of Athletics owns a number of laptop computers that may be signed out by student-athletes for use on away trips. STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAAC): Representatives from each varsity team comprise the SAAC, which is designed to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image. The Committee is an invaluable resource for promoting communication between athletics administration and student-athletes; promoting communication between athletics and campus-wide administration; providing feedback and insight, as well as soliciting responses into department issues and proposed NCAA legislation; building a sense of community within the athletics program involving all athletics teams; organizing community service projects and efforts; creating a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide committees; serving as a collective voice of campus student-athletes; and disseminating information to the student-athlete body. OTHER PROGRAMMING: The Department of Athletics, through the identification of outside speakers and periodic “Brown Bag Luncheons,” thrives to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience as well as to educate student-athletes on a variety of issues that may affect them throughout their collegiate career. Some recent topics of interest have been alcohol, nutrition, body image, hazing, sexuality, diversity, career development, study skills, religious life and gambling.

The Bucknell University Department of Athletics and Recreation prides itself on setting the standard of excellence when it comes to success both on the playing fields and in the classroom. With 16 Patriot League Presidents’ Cups in 20 years, national leadership in graduation rates, 119 Academic All-Americans in 40 years and 119 Patriot League Scholar-Athletes in 20 years, Bucknell is clearly at the head of the class in terms of upholding the scholar-athlete model. The addition of the Kenneth G. Langone Athletics and Recreation Center, one of the finest collegiate athletics and recreation venues of its kind, ensures the continuation of that success. The facility enhances each of Bucknell’s 27 varsity programs and greatly expands the scope of its growing intramural and recreational sports offerings. A visually appealing structure located along Moore Avenue on the “downhill” side of campus, the Langone Athletics and Recreation Center was designed to reach out to all members of the campus community, including the student body, varsity student-athletes, faculty, staff and alumni. Three primary venues lie within the facility: the Arthur D. Kinney Jr. Natatorium, the 4,000-seat Gary A. Sojka Pavilion and the Krebs Family Fitness Center. Other features include a new location for the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame, a display of Bucknell’s Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, a brand new display highlighting Bucknell’s all-time Academic All-Americans, a sports medicine and athletic training suite, classrooms, modern offices for coaches and staff and increased locker room space for varsity and recreational athletes. The facility is named in honor of Ken Langone, a 1957 Bucknell graduate who, along with his wife Elaine, pledged $11 million toward the center’s construction. Langone was a member of the university Board of Trustees from 1980 to 1996. One of the special qualities of the Langone Athletics and Recreation Center is the manner in which it supplements the pre-existing facilities. The construction surrounds Gerhard Fieldhouse and historic Davis Gymnasium, which has been restored as a competition venue for the Bison wrestling and volleyball teams, as well as intramural, recreation and other varsity practice activities. 2011 Season Preview Given that two of Bucknell’s biggest lacrosse rivals are Army and Navy, it is fitting that Bison head coach Frank Fedorjaka turned to a former Navy SEAL to help guide his team through a bit of an offseason boot camp. Bucknell finished 8-6 a year ago. All five regular-season losses came by one goal, including overtime setbacks against Duke, Army and Navy, and in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals the Bison lost 9-7 at host Army. In every single loss, they either had the lead or were tied late in the fourth quarter but could not finish. In the locker room after the playoff loss at West Point, Fedorjaka made it clear that the talent in the program was championship-caliber, but that perhaps the team was lacking the toughness to finish off foes. Fedorjaka vowed to take measures to rectify that, provided every man in the room bought in. Turns out they were, and what followed was one of the most productive preseason sessions of Fedorjaka’s career. A series of workouts, mostly held in the freezing cold at the break of dawn, focused on attention to detail, team building, problem solving and physical fitness. Once the lacrosse sticks were handed back out, Fedorjaka felt like he was coaching a whole new team. “I have never enjoyed coaching a team more than right now,” said Fedorjaka, who is entering his sixth season as head coach of the Bison. “Improving our mental and physical toughness has been the only goal we’ve set heading into this season. Of course, winning the Patriot League championship is where we want to be at the end, but the means to get there is playing better in the last seven minutes of the game than we did in the first 53 minutes. We really struggled late in games last season, and it’s frustrating to think what our record might have been had we been better in the last seven minutes.” Eight starters and 27 lettermen are back from last year’s squad — three-time All-America attackman Austin Winter, high-scoring attackman Tim Brandau and steady midfielder Chris Palmer are the graduation losses — and most notably the entire defensive corps, from the midfield back to the goalie, has returned in excellent shape. Continuing a tradition of stellar defense under Fedorjaka, the Bison ranked third nationally in goals allowed last season (7.93), and those impressive numbers even came with a freshman goalie between the pipes. Kyle Feeney, now a sophomore, is the clear-cut No. 1 netminder entering 2011. He led the Patriot League and ranked No. 3 in the nation in goals-against average (7.45) while starting 12 of the 14 games.
“Having Kyle coming back as a sophomore with a full year of experience under his belt is big,” said Fedorjaka. “He has seen every type of player and every type of offense. He had a terrific fall and is really playing with a lot of confidence.” In front of Feeney is one of the best close defense trios around, consisting of seniors John Collett and Alex Lyons along with junior Jason Neithamer. Lyons and Neithamer were Second Team All-Patriot League selections last season, and Collett will be entering his third straight season as a starter. Lyons ranked No. 3 nationally in caused turnovers (36), while Neithamer led all defensemen with 52 ground balls. Talented freshman Jackson Place, the heir apparent to one of the senior defensemen, will start at long-stick defensive midfield along with junior ground ball artist John Scally. Sophomore Mike Huffner, back from an injury-plagued rookie year, is also a future starter and for now a capable fourth defenseman. The short-stick defensive midfield is also very experienced, led by seniors Jake Clarke, Jason Foreit and Jordan Nies and junior Andrew Van Valkenburg. “The strength of the team is the defense,” said Fedorjaka. “It is not often you come into a season with the entire unit back, and we have a nice blend of different styles of players, which will allow us to do all the things we want to do on defense. Some things I’ve wanted to do for years, we can finally implement with this group.” Clarke’s incredible faceoff work over the last two seasons has helped keep the defense fresh. A former walk-on, Clarke took over as Bucknell’s top faceoff man as a sophomore in 2009, and he helped turn a significant team weakness into a major strength. He won 57.8 percent of his draws and set a program record with 98 ground balls in 2009, and last year he elevated his faceoff efficiency to a school-record 61.7 percent, secondbest in all of Division I lacrosse. Since Clarke is also a terrific short-stick defensive middie, Fedorjaka is hoping for more depth at the faceoff X this season. Sophomore Ryan Gutowski is back after missing most of last season with an injury and all of fall ball while serving as the starting punter on the Bison football team. Gutowski won two-thirds of his faceoffs in high school and was projected to be Clarke’s primary backup last season prior to the injury. Sophomore Wills Miller and senior Christian Tucker both have some experience, although Tucker is working to come back from a fall ankle injury, and freshman Peter Burke won 75 percent of his career faceoffs in high school.

“We expect faceoffs to be a major strength for us again,” said Fedorjaka. “We have three or four very good faceoff men and all of our wings back this season. It is an extremely important part of the game and we put a lot of focus on it every day.” Offensively, Bucknell will have some new faces at attack following the loss of Winter and Brandau, who combined for 167 goals and 311 points over the last four years. The Bison also have some versatility, as the top three returning scorers, senior Ryan Klipstein (34-7-41), junior Charlie Streep (23-12-35) and senior Mike Danylyshyn (20-9-29) have all played both attack and midfield. Klipstein set a Bucknell record for goals by a midfielder last season and earned First Team All-Patriot League honors, but he could return to attack in 2011 along with a pair of first-year starters in sophomore Chase Bailey and freshman Todd Heritage. Bailey came on strong late last season and finished with two goals and two assists in six games, and Heritage, a two-time All-American and 400-point scorer at Cheshire High School, gives Fedorjaka and offensive coordinator Judd Lattimore a nice lefthanded presence up top. “We do have some new faces, but this attack unit is very skilled,” said Fedorjaka. “The group is very good on the back end, which means we might do more initiating from the midfield. The attack unit is very well balanced with both good feeders and finishers.” Streep is another returning all-conference player who is coming off back-to-back 20-goal, 30-point seasons. He logged 23 goals and 12 assists last season, playing mostly attack, but this year he will probably see more time at his more comfortable midfield spot. Danylyshyn, coming off a career-high 20-goal season, has scored some big goals for the Bison and is one of the more underrated players in the Patriot League. Burke, the talented and versatile freshman, is a top candidate to join Streep and Danylyshyn on the first midfield line. Juniors Billy Eisenreich (10-9-19) and Nick Gantsoudes (4-4-8) along with sophomore Kyle O’Keefe (1-2-3) and freshman Tom Black are also pushing for a first-line spot. If not, all will see plenty of time on the second line, as Fedorjaka likes to use his midfield depth. “We have very good depth in the midfield,” said Fedorjaka. “We have a lot of guys there who have played attack, so they are very comfortable carrying the ball against poles and feeding or shooting. I think this year even though there is some youth on offense, we have more guys who are equipped to run our system.”

Frank Fedorjaka was picked as the 2009 Patriot League Coach of the Year.
After two stints as an assistant coach at Bucknell spanning nearly a decade, Frank Fedorjaka took over as head coach in 2006 when he succeeded longtime mentor Sid Jamieson. Fedorjaka became only the second head coach in Bucknell lacrosse history, following in the footsteps of Jamieson, the Bucknell Hall of Famer who founded the varsity lacrosse program in 1968. In his first season at the helm, Fedorjaka led the Bison to a historic victory over No. 1 Maryland — the program’s first-ever victory over a top-ranked team — and another top-20 road win at Penn State later in the season. The victories really began to start pouring in during year No. 2, as the Bison went 11-4, including three top-20 wins, and came within one of the school record for wins in a season. Another 10-win season followed in 2008, and the Bison advanced all the way to the Patriot League championship game for the first time. In 2009 Fedorjaka was named Patriot League Coach of the Year for the first time after leading the Bison to a perfect 6-0 conference record and the Patriot League regular-season title. His team made it to the championship game for the second year in a row, this time dropping a one-goal heartbreaker to Navy. Last season, the Bison took second-ranked and eventual national champion Duke to overtime, and they again qualified for the postseason. Bucknell finished 8-6, with the six losses coming by a combined seven goals. Known throughout his career as one of the college game’s best defensive minds, Fedorjaka’s teams annually rank among the national leaders in scoring defense, man-down defense and riding efficiency. In his first five years as head coach he has mentored five All-Patriot League defensemen, including 2009 All-American Billy Haire, and two allconference goalies. One of those goalies, Nick Sciubba, led the nation in save percentage and goals-against average in 2007. He has also coached three-time All-American Austin Winter, and the 2009 team produced a school-record six First Team All-Patriot League honorees. Three of Fedorjaka’s student-athletes have gone on to play professional lacrosse after graduation. Fedorjaka rejoined the Bucknell lacrosse family after serving as head coach at Franklin & Marshall for five years. Fedorjaka served as an assistant coach at Bucknell for the 1992 and 1993 seasons before going to F&M. In Fedorjaka’s five seasons at F&M, the Diplomats compiled a 39-31 record. His 39 wins placed him in second on the school’s all-time lacrosse wins list. In 1995 Fedorjaka was named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s Division III Coach of the Year, after leading the Diplomats to a 12-3 record and an NCAA playoff berth. In addition to his responsibilities as men’s lacrosse coach, Fedorjaka also served as an assistant coach in football and women’s soccer during his tenure at F&M. Also while at F&M Fedorjaka served as the Chair to the Southern ECAC Lacrosse Committee in 1997 and 1998. He served on the USILA National Ranking Committee and NCAA Advisory Committee for Division III lacrosse. A 1989 graduate of Hobart College, Fedorjaka was a starting longstick midfielder on three NCAA Division III national championship teams. He was also a three-year starter at wide receiver for the Statesman football team, earning All-America honors in 1988. The Rochester, N.Y., native was named Hobart’s Athlete of the Year in 1989. During his career at Hobart, he held all reception records and remained the school’s all-time leading receiver until 2004. Fedorjaka began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for two years at Springfield College (Mass.). Fedorjaka and his wife, Kathy, who is Bucknell’s head women’s basketball coach, live in Winfield, Pa., with their 13-year-old son Matthew and nine-year-old daughter Jamie.

JUDD LATTIMORE ASSISTANT COACH 3rd SEASON
Judd Lattimore, a former attackman at the University of North Carolina who had won better than 71 percent of his games in seven years as a collegiate assistant coach, joined the Bucknell men’s lacrosse staff as offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in August 2008. Lattimore is certainly no stranger to winning lacrosse, as success has followed him throughout his career. In fact, Lattimore coached in the NCAA Tournament in each of his six years prior to coming to Bucknell, and in his first year in Lewisburg the Bison came within one goal of a national tournament berth. In his debut season here, Bucknell was the second-highest-scoring team in team in the Patriot League, averaging 10.4 goals per game. The Bison ranked No. 12 nationally in scoring offense and No. 6 in extra-man efficiency. His attack unit has been ranked among the nation’s best. In 2007, Lattimore returned to his alma mater as co-offensive coordinator, and in his first year back with the Tar Heels the team finished 10-6 — a six-win improvement over the previous season — and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament while averaging just under 11 goals per game. In 2008, UNC averaged 10 goals per game and was the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament before being upset by Navy in the first round. During the 2006 season, Lattimore served as an assistant coach at Penn, where he helped the Quakers to a 10-4 record — their most victories in 18 years — an NCAA Tournament berth and a No. 12 final national ranking. A year earlier, Lattimore worked under the legendary Bob Shillinglaw at Delaware, and that Blue Hens team captured the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title and received an NCAA Tournament bid. Lattimore spent the 2003 and 2004 campaigns as the offensive coordinator at Division II power Limestone College, and the team made it all the way to the national championship game both years. In 2004, Lattimore’s offensive unit scored 19.3 goals per game, the highest figure in any division of lacrosse, and the team scored a school-record 314 goals en route to a 15-2 season. During his playing days at North Carolina, Lattimore was a two-year starter for the Tar Heels and was an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America selection in 2000. A native of Auburn, N.Y., Lattimore earned his bachelor of arts degree in interpersonal and organizational communication from UNC in May 2001.
JOE CONNER JR. ASSISTANT COACH 2nd SEASON
Joe Conner Jr. is in his second season on the Bucknell men’s lacrosse staff. He was the assistant lacrosse coach at Mount St. Mary’s for two years before coming to Bucknell. At Mount St. Mary’s, Conner helped coach the Mount to a 5-3 conference record and a No. 2 seed in the MAAC playoffs, the Mount’s first conference playoff appearance in two years. He served as recruiting coordinator, and in his final season with The Mount he coached the defense, helping them to a No. 9 national ranking in goals allowed. Conner is a 2007 graduate of Mount St. Mary’s and received his M.B.A. from The Mount as well in May of 2009. As a student-athlete, he played at Binghamton University for three years before transferring to Mount St. Mary’s to finish his playing career and pursue his coaching career. He was a midfielder at Binghamton and then was moved to attack when he transferred to Mount St. Mary’s. A native of Ijamsville, Md., he played both lacrosse and football at Urbana High School. He was a high school All-American in lacrosse and started at quarterback on a record-setting football team that won four straight state championships and carried a 50-game winning streak. His father, Joe Conner Sr., is currently the head coach for both football and lacrosse at Urbana.

BUCKNELL ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
One of the most prolific scorers in Bison annals, Zackey still holds the Bucknell records for goals in a season (63) and career (138) and points in a season (79 in 1993). A two-time Honorable Mention All-American who led the nation in goals per game (4.20) in 1993, Zackey was a First Team All-Patriot League pick in 1993 and 1994 and was a two-time Academic All-American.
Rodney Brown ’83
Brown was a four-year starter, playing both midfield and defense during a terrific career that saw him become Bucknell’s third Division I All-American. He was a First Team All-East Coast Conference defenseman in 1982, then as a senior he moved to midfield and tallied 30 goals and 15 assists, repeating as a first team pick and earning an honorable mention All-America nod as well.
Thomas E. Cusick ’87
A three-time All-East Coast Conference selection in men’s lacrosse, Cusick earned honorable mention All-America honors as a junior and was selected for the North-South Senior All-Star game in 1987. He ranked in the top five in the nation in scoring as a junior and senior, and was Bucknell’s all-time leading scorer when he graduated.
C. Edwin Farver ’69
Co-captain of Bucknell’s first two varsity lacrosse teams and the 1968-69 basketball team, Farver was a first team Little All-America and MVP in the Middle Atlantic Conference in lacrosse in 1969. He played in the NorthSouth All-Star Game.
Sidney I. Jamieson
The head coach of the Bison lacrosse program from its varsity inception in 1968 until his retirement after the 2005 season, Jamieson is one of the legends of college lacrosse. He led the Bison to seven league titles in three different conferences and ranked 10th all-time with 242 wins. He coached 17 All-Americans and was named USILA Coach of the Year after guiding Bucknell to a 12-0 record in 1996. In 2005 he received the prestigious Spirit of Tewaaraton Award.
Louis L. Kissling, Jr. ’71
Twice an All-American in lacrosse, Kissling co-captained his senior team, set season and career scoring records, was Most Valuable Player in the Middle Atlantic Conference in 1971, and was selected for the NorthSouth All-Star Game.
James W. McKee ’69
One of the founding members of the varsity lacrosse program at Bucknell. McKee was honored as a second team College Division All-American and All-Mid-Atlantic Conference selection. He was a co-captain as a senior and graduated as the leading goal-scorer at Bucknell.
Thomas H. Sanders ’79
Starting goalie for the lacrosse team for four straight years. He had a terrific senior campaign, earning All-ECC First Team and HM All-America honors. Sanders turned in several stellar performances in goal, including a 29-save outing vs. Army and 22 vs. Delaware that season. He held Bucknell records for saves in season (201) and a career (664), and still owns the mark for saves in a game (34).

A four-time All-East Coast Conference lacrosse player and twice an All-America selection, vonHoffman set numerous school scoring records, was twice co-captain, was ECC Most Valuable Player in 1979 and was selected for the North-South Game.

Thirty top-tier high school and club lacrosse teams will be showcased for college coaches and scouts. Conveniently held on the campus of Bucknell University, the adidas Bison Brawl Team Lacrosse Camp provides the ultimate team competition, multiple synthetic turf fields, illuminated stadium venue, ample parking, dormitory facilities, hotels, hospitality and exposure to the college admissions and athletic recruitment process — not specific to Bucknell University. The camp is held on Bucknell University’s 450-acre campus in the heart of the beautiful Susquehanna River Valley in Lewisburg, Pa. Bucknell’s campus is located adjacent to Rt. 15, just six miles south of I-80 and 55 miles north of Harrisburg, Pa. Campers compete in the 13,100-seat Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. With its recently-installed FieldTurf, it is one of the finest venues in all of college lacrosse. The camp also utilizes the newly renovated West Fields complex, which also offers a first-class atmosphere for lacrosse at any level. The camp provides state-of-the-art facilities and accommodations for a competitive lacrosse atmosphere. BISON LAX IN THE COMMUNITY My top priority as a head coach is to be sure that our program has a positive image on campus, in the community and in the lacrosse world. It is important to me that our student-athletes give back to the University, the community, and to the sport they love, and that these three entities are better with Bucknell Lacrosse than without. That said, I am proud to announce this year’s Community Service Plan. Our goal is to contribute 24 hours of community service per team member. That’s 42 studentathletes x 24 hours each = over 1,000 The U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne hours! We will be contributing to many, Division, Co. A, 506th Regiment many causes again this year. The events shows off care packages sent to and non-profit organizations that we will Iraq by the Bison lacrosse team. be supporting this year are as follows: A Bison Never Forgets – The brainchild of seniors John Collett and Ryan Klipstein, Bison Lax raises funds to send care packages to former college lacrosse players now serving overseas in the armed forces. Collett and Klipstein earned the 2010 Patriot League Sportsmanship Award for their efforts. Americans Supporting Americans – Our participation in this program has caught national attention and has sparked a number of universities, programs, churches, classrooms, etc., to join. We were the first university and certainly the first athletic team to participate in this wonderful program that supports U.S. troops overseas. No Excuses University – We send literature to elementary aged kids in Auburn, N.Y., promoting citizenship and academics. Best Buddies – One or two players each year enroll in the Best Buddies program, where they have an opportunity to build a relationship with a physically or mentally handicapped person in our area. Harvest Soup Kitchen – Team members will help serve at various times. Ronald McDonald House – “Grab a Tab” fundraising program. Colleges against Cancer – Team took part in a 5K run on campus. AIDS Walk – Team took part in a 1-hour AIDS walk in Gerhard Fieldhouse. Day Care – Visit Sunflower Day Care facility and read to young children. ATHLETICS MISSION STATEMENT The Department of Athletics and Recreation strives to set the standard of excellence for intercollegiate and intramural programs in higher education, thereby advancing and drawing attention to the mission, core values, and educational goals of Bucknell University. THE PLAN FOR BUCKNELL Bucknell is a unique national university
