AVIATION MANAGEMENT

If you are interested in the business side of aviation, we offer a range of courses that look into the background operations, logistics, marketing, security and management of the industry that keep everything moving along.

To support your learning, we have specialised simulation facilities available allowing you to experience real-life airport scenarios, as well as developing your abilities in airfield planning and operations, and crisis and emergency management.

INTERNATIONAL TOURISM MANAGEMENT WITH AIR TRAVEL

A career in tourism is thriving, serviceorientated and fast-paced, and a degree at Buckinghamshire New University offers you a compelling route into this sector. We are constantly evolving what we teach, in line with the changes and challenges that come with working in the world of tourism, to ensure you graduate with the most up-todate skills and inside knowledge, primed to enter employment.

This degree will give you a comprehensive insight across all aspects of tourism, with a focus on air transport, helping you gain the knowledge and transferable skills to start a career in these vast and varied sectors.

As one of the few universities that allows you to gain a university degree as well as a PPL or Frozen ATPL(A)/ATPL(H), our Aviation Management with Pilot Training courses can help you achieve your dream of becoming a commercial or private pilot, on aircraft or helicopters*

Our Fashion and Textiles courses are crafted to help you bring to life your visions and ideas.

Our professional workshops are equipped with the industry-standard technology and machines you need to develop your practice.

You could be using anything from a sewing or knitting machine to a top of the range 3D scanner in our fabrication laboratory, known as FabLab. In our workshops, you’ll receive one-to-one teaching, working closely with our experienced lecturers and specialist technicians.

Intelligence, Security & Resilience

Are you fascinated by global affairs? Do you wonder if businesses study their competitors and, if so, how? Do you love solving problems, working collaboratively analysing events, patterns or crimes? All of these are covered - and a great deal more - in our BSc (Hons) in Intelligence, Security and Resilience.

The commercial intelligence sector is increasingly important, with new graduate jobs being created in the private and public sectors all the time. Global security operations are growing in size and sophistication and organisational resilience is becoming a recognised career pathway.

We live in a ‘permacrisis’ world and all organisations need to anticipate, protect from, and respond to a range of events including climate change, crime, cyber attacks, geopolitical changes, war, terrorism, supply chain shortages, reputational setbacks, and commercial competition. Our BSc (Hons) in Intelligence, Security and Resilience course will develop the skills that organisations need to manage these issues.

We are at the start of the 4th industrial revolution and understanding the opportunities and threats of hyper connectivity, open data, AI, VR and AR, and the blurring of the distinction between humans and technology. These are fascinating and concerning times, and you’ll learn to appreciate the impact and implications of this new world and develop skills to play an active role within it.

Whether you’re looking to start a career in intelligence, security and resilience, or if you already have some experience that you wish to build on with an academic qualification, this degree will expand your professional knowledge and your life skills such as public speaking, creating visual aids, research and critical analysis. We will help you to channel your natural curiosity about the world around you, teaching you a range of research and analytical techniques to get to the heart of any problem.

You’ll be taught by experienced professionals with decades of operational experience in the global security industry, the armed forces, police and government. And by the end, you’ll be ready for a wide range of roles in a vibrant and growing profession spanning opportunities in the police, armed forces, corporate security, insurance and financial sectors, retail analysis, the humanitarian sector and many more.

This is a highly practical course with no exams. We focus instead on realistic professional assessments which prepare you for a fascinating career.

Policing

Policing is ever-changing and requires people to take on every challenge and meet it with confidence and knowledge. At Buckinghamshire New University, we’ll help prepare you for the demanding roles within the police force and criminal justice sector.

There is a growing demand for police officers and non-warranted police staff across the UK. We’ve designed our policing courses to help fill this void and prepare you to take the challenges of this sector head on. The courses do take a broader look at policing beyond the police constable role, so if you’re interested in areas such as criminal justice and security too, then BNU may be a great fit for you.

We have worked in partnership with Thames Valley Police for over 15 years to deliver policing programmes, alongside our relationship with the College of Policing. These courses, and the lecturers that deliver them, offer a broad examination of policing and related activities, meaning you will be able to make an informed decision about your future career destination.

As well as learning from our experienced academics (who have or still do work in their specialist areas), we often bring in practitioners to deliver guest talks covering contemporary policing topics.

Throughout the course, students are also supported with specialised facilities on campus, such as our Police Code of Practice Suite. Included in the suite is a mock bedsit, custody desk and suspect interview room, as well as adjoining seminar rooms with a live audio and video feed. In here, you’ll get to practise core policing processes, such as arrest and interview of suspects as well as searching premises, in a safe, controlled environment.

As well as simulating real life scenarios, getting tangible work experience also helps bring the theory to life and enhance your employability in the sector. Through our partnership with Thames Valley Police, you will be able to apply for a volunteer Special Constable position while studying for your degree. Selection to perform this voluntary Special Constable role is subject to a selection process and criteria owned by Thames Valley Police.

Whilst many of our graduates from this programme have successfully gained employment in the police force, others have followed careers within the wider criminal justice system and beyond.

The teaching staff are excellent; my course leaders are amazing and answer all questions that I have, they are extremely knowledgeable in their field.

Your common first year means that rather than having to make your big career decision before you join us, we will introduce you to various specialisms and offer you the flexibility to choose the pathway which suits you. You will study with others who are doing closely related courses to get a great all-round immersion in your subject.

Degree apprenticeships

Degree apprenticeships offer a flexible and professional education, allowing you to obtain a degree while continuing to build practical experience in your workplace. We work with employers to offer Degree Apprenticeships in a wide range of professions.

You’ll study at the University alongside your job, accessing relevant training to achieve a higher or degree-level qualification and progress in your chosen career. With funding from your employer and the government, you’ll earn a salary whilst learning.

We offer lots of part-time programmes for our students who want to fit their studies around other commitments, such as work and family.

Aylesbury Campus

Aylesbury Campus offers a range of courses, including our nursing and midwifery programmes as well as our apprenticeships. At Buckinghamshire New University, we have a range of courses which split their time between our High Wycombe Campus and our teaching base at the renowned Pinewood Studios. Situated only a short ride from High Wycombe, students get to study in a base within the working studios at Pinewood, and also enjoy the full university experience and support network at our High Wycombe Campus.

If you choose to study one of these programmes, you will have access to stateof-the-art equipment and facilities that deliver a high quality and hands-on learning experience. Our specialist resources include a dedicated hair and make-up workshop, prosthetics lab to animation and VFX labs, film, TV and media production facilities and classrooms, equipped with everything you’ll need to kick-start your career.

Missenden Abbey

Missenden Abbey is set within 10 acres of beautiful grounds in the heart of the Chiltern hills and a short walk to the village of Great Missenden.

A 12th century former medieval abbey, it blends a historical building with a purposebuilt hotel, conference and training facility. It offers a stunning background for wedding and party celebrations as well as a great learning environment for training and business strategy away days.

Students within our Missenden Abbey International Hotel and Hospitality School will undertake placements at this impressive venue. We adopt a practice-led approach to hospitality education and training, with students benefiting from an emphasis on professional development and gaining realworld hotel experience.

You’ll work and gain experience at an operational level in your first year and move to more supervisory and managerial roles and capabilities in your second and third year.

All areas and departments of the Abbey will be utilised during the placements, including front of house and back of house operations.

In development

At BNU we are currently in an exciting time of development with an investment of £16.4 million at our main High Wycombe Campus and a further £3 million across our other sites.

The development will provide the best possible environment for our students to study, relax and socialise. Work began in 2022 to introduce more open green spaces via a roof top garden, a huge new student restaurant and a vibrant atrium area which will provide more space for students and include our student support hub.

Our plan is for all this work to be finished by the start of the 2023/24 academic year so you will be able to take full advantage of it during your time with us.

The Venue

The Venue is our intimate Lounge bar and larger club/live room. With a 1,200-capacity event space our state-of-the-art venue is the social hub of our High Wycombe Campus, providing great food by day and award-winning entertainment by night with social activities seven days a week. From quiz, film and acoustic music nights to our infamous Frat House and live bands, The Venue provides something different every night of the week.

Supporting your learning development

Our Student Learning and Achievement team support students who are keen to develop their academic skills and improve their grades, whatever their course, year or stage of attainment.
