The Longmont Quilt Guild is excited to announce their Sixth Annual Quilt Show & Boutique, Friday, Oct. 18, 5-8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in Barn A of the Boulder County Fairgrounds, Longmont, Colo. Admission is $5 for the show; children under 12 are free. There is no charge for entry to our boutique of quilted items for sale. The show features over 130 quilts made by Guild members, as well as antique quilt bed turnings by Jeananne Wright, miniclasses/demonstrations, Viewer’s Choice balloting in nine categories, a Children’s Corner, and exhibits highlighting the Guild’s Outreach activities. Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud is having our annual fundraising event, “Nite at the Races,” which will take place Nov. 2 from 6 to 10 p.m. It will be held at the Fountains of Loveland Event Center. Ticket cost is $50 and can be bought at the Meals on Wheels Office (437 Garfield Ave.) or on our website www.lovelandmealsonwheels.org. We will be having dinner (appetizer, entree, dessert), live and silent auctions, and the most exciting part, pre-recorded horse races that can be bet on with “funny money” which is all included in the ticket price. Most importantly, all the money raised will be used to support Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud, so

we can continue cooking and delivering meals to home-bound seniors in our area. Saturday, Oct. 26 The Longmont Christian Women’s Connection will hold its brunch and annual auction on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The Plaza Conference Center, 1860 Industrial Cr. in Longmont. Announcements The Community Foundation of Northern Colorado is releasing guidelines for grant requests to assist in flood relief and recovery efforts in Larimer County, and it is encouraging nonprofits and governmental entities to review the guidelines and apply if they qualify. The Community Foundation created three charitable funds to address intermediate and long-term flood relief and recovery needs within Larimer County in response to last month’s devastating floods. The funds cover the following areas: · Estes Park and its canyon communities (Drake and above) · Loveland and its canyon communities (below Drake), including Little Thompson River area · Poudre River communities Funding requests from nonprofit orga-

nizations and governmental entities for projects related to the 2013 floods are now being accepted via an application form on the Community Foundation’s website (www.NoCoFoundation.org). Applications will be reviewed and decisions will be made over the course of three funding cycles (additional funding cycles may be added based on availability of funds). The application deadlines are: · Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. · Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. · Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. Applicants should visit the Community Foundation’s website (www.NoCoFoundation.org) to review the grantmaking guidelines and submit an application. The 17th Annual Secret Santas for the Elderly is currently seeking volunteers. The purpose of the Santas is to bring a smile and feeling of love and encouragement to elderly by providing a loving visitor.Volunteers will be paired with an adopted resident living in a nursing or assisted living home in Larimer County. A list is also provided if you’d like to take a simple gift along. Since 1996 the nonprofit group has organized more than 7,300 visits to elderly. Berthoud Community Fund offered $200,000 matching grant Who takes care of the families in Berthoud who struggle? What organization helps our schools meet special needs? Where does the community’s emergency money come from? How do art works and observatories magically appear in our town? The Berthoud Community Fund, which supports worthy causes every year, has an opportunity to grown exponentially this year. Born with a matching grant from the Boettcher Foundation 15 years ago, the fund has just been offered a $200,000 match from the Doyle and Luvesta Jones Fund. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Berthoud Fire Protection District board meets on the third Tuesday of every month at the Berthoud Area Community Center, 248 Welch Ave. Agendas are available two days prior to the meetings by calling 532-2264.
