Saturday, Nov. 16 What’s your rural area vision? Larimer County’s Rural Team will be at the Berthoud Community Library 236 Welch Ave., on Saturday, Nov. 16, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. BHS wrestling mattress sale fundraiser will be held on Nov. 16. More details to follow. The City of Loveland Solid Waste Division, in celebration of America Recycles Day, will hold an eyeglasses collection event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 at the City of Loveland Recycling Center, 400 N. Wilson Ave. All types of eyeglasses will be collected including single-vision, bifocals, reading glasses, prescription sunglasses, non-prescription sunglasses, frames and lenses. Adult and child sizes will be accepted. After collection glasses will be cleaned and sorted. Even damaged or unusable items will be repurposed or recycled. The Loveland Lions Club is working with the city to receive and distribute these glasses for those in need. For more information call 962-2529. Greeley Aglow Community Lighthouse will be “giving thanks” for our November meeting with the opportunity to give your testimony (silent or public) of what the Lord has done for you or brought you through this year. Saturday, Nov. 23 Members of the Berthoud High cross country team will travel to Arizona to take part in the Nike Cross Country Regional meet on Nov. 23. Saturday, Dec. 7 The Garbage Garage Education Center offers a free “Tis the Season to be Crafty” holiday class on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 1-3 p.m. This hands-on class will feature holiday-themed crayon making, baby snow people, tea cup candles, crystal trees, CD ornaments, and Christmas card holiday ball ornament crafts utilizing re-purposed items. All supplies will be furnished. The class is designed for ages 6-12 with an accompanying adult. The Garage Garage is located at the Larimer County Landfill, 5887 S. Taft Hill Road, Fort Collins. Announcements The Thompson Education Foundation (TEF) continues to honor excellence in education with the sixth annual Educator of the Year awards for the Thompson School District. Nominations for the 2014 Educators of the Year are now being accepted for the following categories: 2014 Elementary Teacher of the Year (pre-kindergarten - 5th grade) 2014 Secondary Teacher of the Year (sixth grade - 12th grade)

Nominations close on Dec. 6, 2013. Thompson Education Foundation’s sixth annual Educator of the Year awards recognizes outstanding Thompson School District staff members. Community members are invited to share in this recognition program by nominating a Thompson School District educator for excellence in education through their ability to empower, challenge, and inspire. Criteria for selection for the awards include a candidate’s dedication to their job performance, collaboration skills, and the ability to inspire those they interact with in the course of their work. Educator of the Year award winners will be honored at the Educator Appreciation Breakfast held at Embassy Suites Loveland on March 7, 2014. The breakfast is open to the public and promises to be exciting with presentations from the 2013 Creativity Grant and Founders Grant recipients, the Educator of the Year announcements and the awarding of car leases to the award winners from event sponsor King Buick GMC. The 17th Annual Secret Santas for the Elderly is currently seeking volunteers. The purpose of the Santas is to bring a smile and feeling of love and encouragement to elderly by providing a loving visitor.Volunteers will be paired with an adopted resident living in a nursing or assisted living home in Larimer County. A list is also provided if you’d like to take a simple gift along. Since 1996 the nonprofit group has organized more than 7,300 visits to elderly. Berthoud Community Fund offered $200,000 matching grant Who takes care of the families in Berthoud who struggle? What organization helps our schools meet special needs? Where does the community’s emergency money come from? How do art works and observatories magically appear in our town? The Berthoud Community Fund, which supports worthy causes every year, has an opportunity to grown exponentially this year. Born with a matching grant from the Boettcher Foundation 15 years ago, the fund has just been offered a $200,000 match from the Doyle and Luvesta Jones Fund.
