Tuesday, Feb. 4 On Tuesday, Feb. 4, water historian Brian Werner will discuss the development of water supplies in Northern Colorado and the Berthoud area. Werner’s presentation will include the earliest irrigation projects in the 19th century, the construction of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, and how water has shaped the region. Historical photos will help tell the story of how water played a critical role in Northern Colorado’s history. “Water, History and the Development of Colorado’s Largest Trans-mountain Water Diversion Project” will be presented at the Berthoud Community Center at 248 Welch Ave. There is a suggested donation of $3 for Berthoud Historical Society members and $5 for non-members. Colorado State University Extension is teaming with the NRCS, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, the University of Wyoming and West Greeley Conservation District to offer the Passion for Food workshop on Feb. 15, in the McKee 4-H Building at The Ranch in Loveland. The workshop is for anyone with a desire to grow plants or raise animals for economic gain, self sustainability or the sheer pleasure of producing their own products. Topics will include raising bees, backyard fruit production, growing hops, brewing your own beer and wine, producing high-quality goat milk for the home dairy, weed management, bread making, soil basics, organic insect management, and much more. Senior citizens who meet the eligibility requirements can work off up to $400 of their Larimer County property tax by applying at one of several upcoming information and application sessions. Eligibility requirements include: • Applicants must be at least 60 years of age. • Applicants must own property and

live on that property in Larimer County. • Applicants must have a gross monthly income at or below $1,915 (for one person) and $2,585 (for two people). Established in 1981, the tax work-off program is a method for senior citizens to work off a portion of their property tax. Those accepted into the program are placed in temporary jobs in Larimer County departments. The program was developed to address the challenge for seniors on fixed incomes to afford the higher property taxes that rising housing costs incur. The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources is seeking professional visual artist applicants for 2014. The selected “Artist of the Year” will have the opportunity to create a piece of visual art inspired by a Larimer County park or open space which they will donate to the county. The Larimer County Natural Resources Department will host a public celebration of the final submitted artwork, display the work for public viewing in a Larimer County building, and publicize the selected artist whenever appropriate. The artist will host one public art-related program to increase the public’s appreciation of open spaces through art. Larimer County’s Geographic information Systems, GIS, and Mapping Group has updated the popular Land information Locator (LiL), the county’s parcel locator suite of applications which provides a window to much of the county’s most sought after land information and a variety of tools for access. The new LiL suite is accessible through the county’s Enterprise GIS launch page at http://maps.larimer. org/lcmaps and from other links on the Virtual Courthouse, Larimer County’s website at www.larimer.org. Whether a citizen is looking for tax parcel information or detail, parcel sales with available imagery, or wants to create an owner notification list in a particular boundary, documentation on how to use the new LiL application is provided in the help menu.
