Saturday, June 1 59th Annual Berthoud Day The Berthoud Foursquare church will sell burritos from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. A Mexican dinner fundraiser and silent auction will be held at 5 p.m. The events for the day will also include a raffle: 32-inch flat screen TV, bicyle, Blu-ray player and MP3 player. Sunday, June 2 BHS Alumni Potluck Picnic — Make plans now to attend the 5th annual Berthoud High School Potluck Picnic on Sunday, June 2 from noon to dusk at Berthoud Town Park. Anyone with a connection to Berthoud schools at any time is invited. Spouses and friends are welcome. The event is free. There is no RSVP. You are asked, however, to bring a potluck dish and your own tableware and lawn chairs. Please help us continue this annual Berthoud tradition that is always held on the Sunday following Berthoud Day (first Saturday in June). Friday, June 7 Lunch from Fannie Palmer’s Pantry will be served on Friday, June 7 at the McCarty-Fickel Home at 645 Seventh St. in Berthoud from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fannie Palmer was the McCarty family’s domestic helper in the early 1900s and prepared the family’s meals for many years. The lunch is offered a cost of $10 per person and provides a unique opportunity to step back to a less-harried era when the noonday meal was a relaxing interlude in the middle of the day. Saturday, June 15 The Berthoud High School Volleyball Team is hosting a summer tournament here at BHS on Saturday, June 15. The tournament will consist of women’s six’s teams and starts at 9 a.m. This is a fundraiser for the volleyball program so ladies get your best team together and sign up. Announcements The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Collins Police Services are looking for compassionate and caring people to serve as victim advocates. Victim advocates provide a valuable service for the community by assisting victims and protecting their rights. In addition to needed emotional support and crisis intervention, advocates offer information about the criminal justice system and the resources available to the victim. Advocates often act as a liaison between the victim and the officers investigating an incident. Services are provided to victims 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Advocates are asked to work four to six 12-hour shifts per month and attend a meeting each month. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, complete 40-50 hours of training and successfully complete the application process which includes a criminal history check and a background investigation. Applicant must have an interest in public service and ability to function as part of a highly-skilled team of rescue professionals. We are looking for individuals with any of the following experience: water rescue, dive rescue, commercial divers, military divers, recreational SCUBA, EMT, paramedic, law enforcement, or simply people with a big heart for helping people in their time of need. Larimer County Dive Rescue is a volunteer rescue organization dedicated to providing emergency water services for the citizens of Larimer County — and state wide upon request. Our organization is one charged with a mission of water rescue (surface and sub-surface) for Larimer County, Colorado. We have been in existence since 1972. The current level of training and expertise within our team is on the same level or higher than many paid organizations. In addition to our life safety and rescue mission, we perform underwater criminal investigation, evidence search and victim and vehicle recovery for the law enforcement agencies within our response area.
